 | HP ink cartridge chip on Officejet 7110 and others by dncb (5/12/05 4:55 PM) reply | +1 + / - | I've seen the thread about the class action suit against HP regarding the expiration date and ink level debate. I have two questions: 1) It appears easy enough to defeat the date problem by simply setting the computers date to an earlier time (before cartridge expiration date) and then set the printer to get its date from the computer -- or... just set the printer to an earlier date and tell it NOT to get the date from the computer. Easy enough... But how do you get the printer to stop sending those annoying low ink messages and flashing lights on the printer after it has printed a certain number of pages regardless of the real ink level (like when you've refilled it)??? 2) Does anyone know how to join the class action suit?

With only 4 pins, it must just be power and serial data! If one could reset the counters, it would be a simple matter to squeeze unused ink from a "low" cartridge and inject into a working cartridge.

It turns off the "safety" feature that keeps you from draining the printhead. Check the manual. I did it but it was some time ago and I don't remember how. It was pretty easy. If you can't figure it out email me and I'll try to figure it out again.
Speaking of which. I have a few dead printheads. I'm on my third black printhead and second blue. Does anyone know of a resource where I can troubleshoot printheads? I'm tired of replacing them.

At $35.00 a pop each (x 4), it was quite expensive. Then I found a site on e-bay that guaranteed a fix for the printheads. At the time the price was $5.00, but it is now $10.00. Go to e-bay and do an e-bay search on "easily fix hp14 printheads". I didn't believe that it would work, but I sent the $5.00. IT WORKS !!!! I had 3 or 4 old "bad" printheads lying around and his method fixed 3 ou of 4 plus problems with 2 of the existing printheads. The one that didn't fix was damaged because I threw it against the wall. Try it. If it doens't work he will send you your money back. I agreed not to reveal the method so you will have to spend the $10.00. It is a simple method, but you MUST follow the instructions carefully - Good Luck. Let me know if it works for you. Bob

Not sure which one is which. Then press 1 to stop the printer from checking the ink supply.

 | Battery holder replacement part. by jimmer12 (2/14/06 11:43 AM) reply | +2 + / - | I just did one of the recommended date resets by removing the interior battery after refilling one of the ink cartridges in my HP 7110. While removing the battery, I managed to break off the finger that holds the battery in place, plus I think the finger acts as a ground. What part do I need to get this fixed and where do I get it?

 | Re: HP ink cartridge chip on Officejet 7110 and ot by shredhead (8/15/06 8:56 AM) reply | + / - | I had an error on a couple of printheads for awhile. I don't print all that much though, so the the possbility of laying out $35 a pop for new ones didn't sound fun to me. I like the Windex idea but I first tried compressed air sprayed into the printheads, wiping them off with a tissue. It didn't work immediately, but after running a clean printheads through the menu it works fine.
Now, if I could just fix this color banding problem...
