Whilst plotting my DesignJet 450C keeps picking up the cutter during the plot, thus I end up with a very colourful chinese lantern.
Has anybody experienced this problem or know or how to rectify it.

Cheers

Never have. Only two things can cause this. The metal bracket on top of the cutter has become bent wrong and the carriage assembly attaches to it each time or there is something wrong with the carriage assembly part which hooks to the cutter. My bet is that someone bent the bracket on the cutter I would think upwards causing it to take hold of the carriage each time. Best way to diagnose is to remove the right side cover and the display light unit. Stick the blue power button up the side of the display unit to defeat the cover switch and watch those two unit as the plotter does first it initialization. The design of that thing is really where the carriage assembly pushes against the cutter like twice so as to attach it. When it does the plot it only hits it once. Good Luck.
