Steve: For "Exploded Parts Diagrams" of most Epson Ink Jet Printers and or possible parts ordering and prices by Compass Micro Inc, go to http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm ...You will also need an actual Service Manual, not only for disassembly and troubleshooting, but to be able to reset the Factory Settings. Those settings have to be re-done, when a new Printhead Assembly is installed. I have not checked, but you can normally find Service Manuals and or Service Adjustment Programs/Resets for most printers, from 2manuals.com, at http://www.2manuals.com (most Service Manuals & Reset Procedures, can usually be downloaded for around $10 /- ). If that source is not available, then I would recommend that you go to the "Compass Micro Inc" web-site, at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm and check with them directly, to see if they have a Service Manual or Reset Procedure available yet for your printer. Several people have posted that they have manuals available for the newer printers, that are not actually available from other normal sources. I HAVE NOT CHECKED ON ANY PARTICULAR PRINTER MODELS, BUT HERE ARE SOME OTHER WEB-SITES THAT YOU CAN CHECK WITH FOR SERVICE MANUALS: You will have to check the following web-sites for availability [some may be able to order or locate Service manuals for you] and pricing: http://www.manuals4you.com , http://www.sm.copyprofi.net/index.htm , http://www.servicemanuals.net/(qxdgvu55gnxp1r55phmu5d45)/default.aspx , http://www.docteurtech.com/CAN-Import/can-import.html , or http://www.user-service-manuals.com/epson-service-manuals.htm ...Good Luck! i've had problems with intermittent randomly spaced very fine black lines running in same direction as the travel of the print head... occurs more on heavier weight papers. i've tried setting the paper thickness lever (?) under the cover on the right side... and yes the lines are less at the + setting but still appear.. although fewer in number.
epson tech gave me name of local repair service. they want $170 to fix.
i could sure use some suggestions... thanks tom

(i did use the cleaning kit from fyop and still get the lines)

tom hodge,.. There is a much better way to clean the problem you are getting. One of the major problems of all Epson printers is ink accumulation on the bottom of the printhead. This really gets gummed up. As a result the heavy stuff will drag along your new printerd document where there are bumps in the road. At least that is my guess.

Many times I have had a head cleaning problem with my 1280 and always felt it was a clogged head. What I have learned over the years is that the real problem is the bottom of the head gets so clogged up that ink is dried over the top of the exit nozzles, and not ink can get out and standard cleaning won't help.

So here is my solution. Fold up a paper towel such that it is finally only 3/8-1/2" wide. Open the cover and move the ink carts to the replacement position, then pull the power cord. Now you will be able to move the printhead yourself. Remove the ink carts. Place the folded towel in the space which is directly below the head and runs the length of the printer. Wet the first 2" of the left end and press the leading edge down into the trougth. Carefully slide the head over the towel and stop it when it is centered over the wet part. Wait a few minutes then wet the next 2" and repeat. Do this over and over until you have used up all of the towel. Then move the head back and remove the ink stained towel. Get another towel and do all of this again. If you are using strong towels with minimum water you should be able to move the head to the center and lift both ends of the towel and move it back and forth rubbing the bottom of the head.

Once you are satisfied that you have most of the ink move the head back to the left, replace the ink carts, plug the power back in and run a cleaning cycle and then a nozzle check.

This has worked for me and I always do this once a year just to get rid of the accumulation of ink.

For all EPSON printer owners, this will work in every model of Epson printer and should be a basic part of the head cleaning process.
