When I turn the printer on the 2 LED lights just blink alternately and wouldn't work. What could be the problem? if anybody can please help me with this. I have an Epson Stylus C43SX.
Oliver: A Service Error where all LED's/Lights are blinking at the same time, is normally a Maintenance Request Error. The maintenance request error is actually a Waste Ink Ink Pad Error and usually your remedy is to replace the Waste Ink Pad/Pads with a new one/ones and then reset the Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter. If you just reset the counter and don't replace the pads, then your printers old pads will eventually overflow and normally start leaking ink out the bottom of your printer. You can see "Exploded Parts Diagrams" of most Epson Ink Jet Printers and can also check on possible parts ordering, by Compass Micro Inc, at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm . Some people actually wash the ink out of the old pads, by holding them under running cold water, then dry them out and simply reinstall them back into their printer. The choice on what to actually do, is yours to make. I would at least recommend getting that Waste Ink Counter reset procedure and performing it first, to make sure your printer will then work...There is an "Epson Stylus C60 Printer Information Page", that also includes the C43 series, that you can view at http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/C60.html and use as a possible guide. It does have a section on the left side you can click-on, titled WASTE INK PAD SERVICING and also a section titled HOUSING REMOVAL, that will be of some help to you, if you want to try the needed servicing. Oliver Lee: You're welcome. Remember: If you only used that "SSC Service Utility" to reset that Waste Ink Error Counter, there is always the chance that those Waste Ink Pads will overflow and leak, if you don't at least remove and wash and dry those pads...Denny Conway
don't worry bout the waste pad, I had my printer modified that I can load liters of ink per color. :) check this site out ---> http://www.bottomlessink.com
No Problem, they installed a separate chip for each cartridge that fits perfectly. Then they customized a cartridge for each color that's attached to a very flexible hose leading to an external container. and the best thing they did was, install another flexible hose under the waste pad that leads to a waste ink container that you can dispose of anytime. It's a perfect system, except for the maintenance error.

I can't remember who installed the system, it's about 2 months old now and I'm located in Parañaque City, Metro Manila. We might get another set of inks probably this week or next. I got the thing to work but the black ink didn't work for quite a while. I still have no idea how or why, I've spent quite a lot of ink on head cleaning the it started working again. I hope nothing goes wrong again. Anyway, the system is superb! I'll try and refer more to your site just like what i did here. :)

Now I remember, are you the one from Garments Asia?
"Ok alam ko na"
Normally, it depends on the printer's age. When the printer eventually breaks down, the system can be easily installed to another printer with the same cartridge number. like c45 and cx1500.
I think we already talked through my cell phone.

With the C43Ux sscserve cannot reset a missing cartridge error, the one you are experiencing.
Unfortunately there is no way to understand what's wrong with your cartridge unless you buy a new original one (if you haven't still done it) or a resetter to clear the value stored in the chip on the empty original cartridge (resetters usually don't work on compatible chips).
If new or reset cartridge doesn't work, carriage contacts are probably damaged.

Thus Epson release a chip that can not be reset or one use only?
I encountered T029 & T028 black & color cartridge (newly purchased cartridges). I refill the cartridges and reset the chip (using the standard resetting procedure - ok) But still the cartridge cannot be detected by the printer. The red light blinks on the printer telling that cartridge cannot be detected.
Thus anybody knows about the new chip released by epson on their old cartridges like T009 and others?
Thanks..!!

Hello. maybe you can help me? I set a new one black cartridge into my c43sx printer, and when i change it to a refilled one with the SSC Service Utility It seems to print, but without Ink. The head is moving on paper, but doesn't print. As I'm trying to make the headcleaning it says that my cartridge is empy and i have to change it to a new one. What shall I do?
CarapuZ: It sounds like your printer is not actually recognizing that refilled ink cartridge. The "SSC Service Utility" can be used to freeze the ink levels on a good ink cartridge, so they can be refilled. As far as I know, that utility cannot actually reset a empty, bad, or not rexcognized electrical chip on the actual ink cartridge itself. Its very common that some brands of non-epson ink cartridges may not always be recognized by the newer models of epson printers. Its usually because of the inexpensive and or incompatable electrical chips that are mounted on some brands of generic or third-party ink cartridges. Unfortunatly, there is no way to make your epson printer use that non-epson ink cartridge, if it cannot actually recognize it. Sometimes you will even get error messages up on your monitors screen, telling you that you are actually using a non-epson ink cartridge, or that your printer cannot recognize the cartridge that you installed. Sometimes the ink level indicator, on your status monitor, will not show an actual ink level, but may indicate a cartridge error or cartridge problem instead. Either you buy an actual epson ink cartridge, or keep trying the non-epson cartridges, until you find a brand that will work in your printer. I have read a suggestion that you can always use an actual epson ink cartridge and when its empty, use the electrical chip off that epson cartridge. You could install the epson chip onto the non-epson ink cartridge, but then you would need an actual "Ink Chip Resetter", to reset that chip, that was marked as empty by your printer. Until that chip is reset, it will not work in your printer. Some people simply refill the empty epson ink cartridge and then reset the electrical chip. The choice on what to do, or what to use is yours to make...Good Luck! Denny Conway

No, no, no. You haven't got it. My new non-epson cartridge is working properly. I mean when i change this my new non-epson cartridge with the help of SSC Service Utility to my old non-epson or epson cartridge (doesn't matter) my printer works theoretically. But in practice it doesn't print. I mean the head is moving but there's no any printed point on the paper. Looks like the head needs to be cleaned, but when I try to clean it, it says that cartridge (old non-epson or epson refilled and changed with the SSC SU) is empty, and proposes me to change it. You see what I mean? And else. I cannot freeze ink level with SSC SU. I can't get how does it works. When I click "Freeze" it says that the level is freezed, but when I refresh the level of ink in SSC SU (after print) it becomes lower than freezed level. I mean it doesn't work properly. And I'm said:()
Re: c43sx won't work by CarapuZ (4/27/05 9:56 AM) reply
Almost forgot. Is there any other way to reset that ****ing chip except SSC SU? And without buying any resetters or something else. If there's not, then tell me please how can I reset the chip in SSC SU step by step. Cause it has to work, but it doesn't and i'm mad 'bout this.
CarapuZ: I'm sorry, but the only way to reset the electrical chips is with an actual "Ink Chip Resetter". To my knowledge, that SSC Service Utility is not capable of actually resetting the ink chips. It can be used to freeze the ink levels on an already good ink chip, that has not already been marked as empty or bad by your printer. Unfortunatly, that ssc service utility may not actually work on all epson printers and not on all operating systems and sometimes does not even work on actually listed models. I'm sorry, but as I never use that ssc utility, I cannot tell you how to actually use it, or even help you with it. There is another person that helps out on this Printer Repair Site, called NEWUSER, that seems to know a lot about that ssc utility. You may want to post a completely new and separate message board, so he may see your posted message, rather than tacking your messages onto someone elses message board that is already over 4 months old. A lot of technicians and people that help out on this Printer Repair Site, read the actual SUBJECT LINE, rather than reading each individual message. Sometimes they don't even read all the replies on an old message board. If you start a completely new message board, with his name in the subject line and asking for his help, you will have a better chance that he will actually see it. EXAMPLE: "RE: NEWUSER; need your help on SSC problem". It's easy to post a new and separate message: Just go to the "fixyourownprinter.com" web-site and under MESSAGE BOARD, click-on PRINTER REPAIR FORUM. The first page will open up; scroll down to bottom of the page; in the bottom left corner is "click here to post a new message". Now you can post your new Subject Header & your printers problem...Basically, if your printer is simply not printing out any ink at all, using either the new-epson ink cartridge, or the non-epson ink cartridge, then either the print head is clogged, or it is failing. IF THAT IS THE CASE, THEN: You might want to try using the "Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution", available through fixyourownprinter.com, at http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kits/epson . However, that solution will only help, if there is an actual clogged print head assembly. When it opens, click-on epson stylus head cleaning solution thats listed for your particular printer. The epson solution sells for around $10.00 plus shipping. It includes a syringe and some epson print head cleaning solution, which is designed to dissolve most clogs, especially if you were using epson inks. This is the same chemical used by epson in their service department. You can try it if you want to and see if you can get the print head nozzles to open up again. That solution was basically designed by epson company for use on their older models of ink jet printers, but people have been using it on the newer models, with success reported. IF YOU DECIDE TO, TRY THE "EPSON STYLUS HEAD CLEANING SOLUTION", JUST REMEMBER: The nozzles inside the print head assembly can be easily damaged by using to much force on the plunger of the syringe. Damage can even occur when you are using the epson stylus head cleaning solution method, if you actually try to force the fluid thru the nozzle. To much force/pressure can damage the little tubes inside the nozzle assembly and then it will never work again. One individual print head nozzle is so tiny, that it will not accept a human hair. You can see why they can get clogged so easily, or even why the nozzles can be so easily damaged. The correct method is to use the syringe to add the fluid into the nozzle and then leave the fluids set inside the nozzle for a day or two, to try and dissolve a possible bad clog. If you remove the Top Cover Assembly, then you can leave the print head assembly parked in its normal home position, at the far right side. Then any ink & fluids that are purged during the cleaning, will normally travel thru the cleaning station hoses, to the waste ink pads. If you have the "Print Cartridge Holder Assembly", positioned away from the home position, then you will need to slide strips of paper towels or coffee filters under that assembly, to soak up any expelled ink and fluids, or it can get all over. Sometimes you might have to use the fluids several times to be able to dissolve the clog in the print head nozzles. Sometimes the clog will never dissolve, or it actually damages the nozzles. The longer the clog has been in, the worse it is to remove. Again, if the cleaning fluids don't help, then its generally time to invest in a new printer. In some more expensive printers, you may want to get an estimate to replace the print head assembly, but as a general rule, its not really economical to do in the smaller epson ink jet style printers. You can generally buy a new small printer cheaper than you can have your old one repaired for. EXAMPLE: The print head assembly in the "C80" Printer sells for around $120 to $130. There is a REVIEW of the "Print Head Cleaning Solution", as well as general "Print Head Cleaning Instructions", that is available to view at http://www.inkjetprinterhelp.us/EKR.html ...Again, Good Luck! Denny Conway
CarapuZ...FOLLOW-UP: You could first try running sets of the "Print Head Cleaning Cycles" & "Nozzle Tests", to see if that helps to get those nozzles to open up again and start printing again. You must run a nozzle test after every cleaning cycle ran, because your printer uses the nozzle test as a point of reference for the next cleaning cycle that is ran. If after running up to 6 sets of those cleaning tests and nozzle tests, you still have the same non-printing problem, then its always possible that your printer may have an actual hardware/parts problem [such as a failing print head assembly], or simply that the print heasd is badly clogged. The only way too really find out, is to eliminate the possible clogging problem, which is very common when you have been using the wrong ink in your printer [non-epson ink cartridge, or refilled ink cartridge]. REGUARDING NON-EPSON INKS: Printer manufacters do not make available their ink formulation and any difference in that ink formulation can actually cause clogging in the small printhead nozzles or damage other critical components in epson printers. Especially on the newer models of epson printers that have come out in the last few years. Unfortunatly, not all "Generic" & "Third-Party" ink cartridges are made the same and none of them actually contain the right formulation of ink, for the Epson Printers [formula is patented by Epson Company]. Some are probably close and seem to be better than others, but some simply can clog-up or even damage the "Printhead Assemblies" on epson printers. Epson ink jet printers are one of the few printers on the market that seem to have so many problems with non-manufactors inks, especially those newer models made with-in the last few years. Epson printers use a completely different print head inking system than most other brands of printers and correct epson ink formulation is vital. Most, if not all of the other manufactors, use thermal or bubblejet print heads and because the other brands use a totally different system, they don't seem to have as many problems using refilled inks or non-manufactor's ink cartridges. Generally if you are using non-epson ink or ink cartridges, or refilling your old cartridges, you are using the wrong ink for your printer and sooner or later you will have some type of problems, almost everyone does. You are taking your chances by using those third-party or generic ink cartridges, or even by refilling your old cartridges. I understand the differences in the costs of the non-epson ink and ink cartridges, compared to the actual epson ink cartridges and the choice is always yours to make. It really does not matter to me what type of ink cartridges you decide to use in your epson printer...Denny Conway
