kbooi: Your particular Epson Printer Model [CX1500] was made by Epson Company, for sales and distribution in the Australia area & possibly other related areas. Because I live in the USA and the souces I use, are here in the USA, I'm sorry to say that I cannot really help you with your problem. Unfortunatly, I doubt that even an Epson Technical Support Department in your area, would be able to supply the information that you need. Epson Company does not allow that type of information [reset procedures]to be released to the public. The only thing I can suggest is to try doing a SEARCH on the internet, under your CX1500 and see if you can try and find an actual SERVICE MANUAL, or the needed RESET PROCEDURE for your printers problem...If you happen to need help from the "Epson Australia Technical Support Department", please note that their web-site states that they are only able to respond to customers residing in Australia. If you are not residing in Australia, you can contact EPSON in your region, by going to the EPSON GLOBAL WEB-SITE, at www.epson.com and then checking your available options...Good Luck! Denny Conway

I been using an Epson CX3200 with generic cartridges without any problems... but when I bought the Epson CX1500 and use the same brand of generic cartridges the printer won't work at all, it only seems to work with original cartridges.... Does anyone know if this model has some kind of protection against generic ink???... and can that protection be overriden with a program or procedure????
I really need to know so I can save on ink
Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX1500 by Denny Conway (1/11/05 4:47 PM)
Anonymous: There is no built-in protection or circuit thats not allowing you to use those wrong ink cartridges. Its simply those cheap ink cartridges themselves. Unfortunatly, there is no way to make your Epson Printer use that Non-Epson Ink Cartridge, if it cannot actually recognize it. Its even possible that some brands of Non-Epson Ink Cartridges may not always be recognized by the newer models of Epson Printers, because of the inexpensive and or incompatable Electrical Chips that are mounted on some brands of Generic or Third-Party ink cartridges. Sometimes you will even get Error Messages up on your Monitors screen, telling you that you are actually using a Non-Epson Ink Cartridge, or that your printer cannot recognize the cartridge that you installed. Sometimes the Ink Level Indicator, on your Status Monitor, will not show an actual ink level, but may indicate a cartridge error or problem instead. Unfortunatly, not all Generic & Third-Party ink & ink cartridges are made the same and none of them actually contain the right formulation of ink, for the Epson Printers [formula is patented by Epson Company]. Some are probably close and seem to be better than others, but some simply can clog-up or even damage the Printhead Assemblies on Epson Printers. Epson Ink Jet Printers are one of the few printers on the market that seem to have so many problems with non-manufactors inks, especially the newer models made in the last couple of years. Its because the Epson Printers use a completely different printhead inking system than most other brands of printers. Most, if not all of the other manufactors, use thermal or bubble jetprint heads and because the other brands use a totally different system, they don't seem to have as many problems using refilled inks or non-manufactor's ink cartridges. Printer manufacters do not make available their ink formulation and in most cases, the formulation is patented. Any difference in the ink formulation can actually cause clogging in the small printhead nozzles or damage other critical components. One individual printhead nozzle is so tiny, that it will not accept a human hair, so you can see why they can get clogged so easily, or even why the nozzles can be so easily damaged...Good Luck! Denny Conway
Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX1500 by Anonymous (2/22/05 1:28 PM)
Anonymous: Your "CX1500" was made & distributed by Epson Company for overseas sales [usually Australia area]. I've not seen any listing for that model in any of the normal sources used and normally recommended here in the USA. You might want to check out the SSC Service Utility and see if they actually list your "CX1500". To see that SSC Service Utility, go to http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/sscserve.exe . To check and see if your printer is compatible, go to http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html . Unfortunatly, that "SSC Service Utility" does not work on all Epson Printers and not on all Operating Systems and sometimes will not even work on actually listed printer models, so you will have to check it out for yourself...Good Luck! Hi Denny Conway, I was the anonymous asking for the cx1500's service manual, I will try to find out something more about the reset procedure on this printer, if anybody knows something, let me know. Up to now the SSC utility doesn´t support this kind of printer... yet... I think this is because is new model... I hope soon it will be available. thnaks.

Hi Dax! Can you send me the cx1500 service program? I don`t know what to do!!!!!!!! I'm tired of looking for a program that unlock my printer. Sorry by my english, i'm from Argentina. Thanks a lot!!!
Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX1500 by tisut (8/2/05 4:57 AM)
I suggest you read the manual before attempting to use it. Better yet I recommend you only touch the part about the ink counter, or else you can make a bigger problem

hi guys! im planning on purchasing an epson cx1500. can you guys rate this model for me? aside from this protection counter reset problem, does this model have other often or intermittent problems with the printer/scanner/copier? hows the quality print? Is it worth buying a cx1500 or would you recommend me to look for other models or brands? thanks!!!
Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX1500 by intratech (8/11/05 5:36 AM)
you're welcome and "Epson" welcomes you.....(actually I own an HP... I don't trust us Epson dudes)
I case anyone has problem understanding the danm program, here are the steps to clear the reset problem
First of all you must have installed and configured the printer correctly(Epson CX1500). That means that it should have been working fine until suddenly you get and error saying you have parts that need change and the only LED on the printer is the red one ( the green one is OFF ) SO this is what you do:
3. Unzip the file and run the EXE file named "FT0077_0624.exe" (with the Kitty Kat image icon)
4. In the upper tabs go to "RD Settings"
5. Double click on option 7, "Dump ROM Data"
6. A new window should open and in the left column look for a "Protection Counter A" and should read a number above 4 thousand and something.
7. Select that number and DELETE it, and replace with a zero "0"
8. Clik "Ok" at the bottom and another window should open "SAVE ROM Data Success" click "accept"
9. Click "EXIT" and exit the application
10. Turn the printer OFF the ON and should be ok now
11. Have a hot cup of cocooa and pat yourself in the bak for saving yourself 65$ bucks!!
Don't touch any other parts of the program unless you know what you're doing. 'cause you can screw up the EEPROMM configuration.
Remember this program only resets the counter on the EEPROMM and you can do it up to 2 times without having to dissasemble the printer and change the ink pads at the bottom of the printer after that there's a risk of the waste ink overflowing the compartments and spilling inside the printer.
SAVE THE WHALES.....FEED THE CHILDREN
Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX1500 by meemee (8/19/05 10:20 AM)
oh boy, i think i just screw up my EEPROM setting(but i don't care, as long it work for me). first i live in indonesia, i don't know the type of my printer cx1500(indonesia version). so i just set the type in station 1(or perhaps station 2. i don't know, i cann't remember) using singapore type(because it close with my country). then i jump to procedure no 6, counter reset procedure(if i am not wrong). hehehehe but it work. i dont care with singapore version, as long it work. once again, THANK YOU DAX for saving $65 buck.
sory my english not good.
Re: Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX1500 by Anonymous (9/9/05 4:15 AM)
It really works!!! The printer error message was gone. But I have another problem. After running the program and turning it off and on again, there was a strange sound on my printer. And I found out that the scanner is the culprit, after a while it will stop. So I run my scanner program and I got an error message of EPScan Code(ffff:0024). Now I cannot use my scanner but the printer is working.
Any help? Thanks in advance...

Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX1500 by INTRATECH (9/9/05 5:32 AM)
I DONT HAVE ANY PROBLEM FROM THE FIRST TIME WHEN YOU POST THE SERVICE PROGRAM.
IS VERY EASY TO USE.
1)INPUT THE HEAD ID. 2)SETTING STATION 1 Y 2 AND CONFIGURE THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE PRINTER 3)GO TO RD SETTING OPTION 7 AND TURN TO "0" THE PROTECTION COUNTER A . WITH THIS WAY I DON HAVE ANY PROBLEM
THANK FOR YOUR HELP IN THE NAME OF MY INC.

Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX1500 by kbooi (10/9/05 8:55 PM)
I have difficulty to reset the epson Cx6500 and Cx5300 printer, I have tried to use SSC version 4.0 but it doesn't appear to be working. I have number of these model in hand and sent to Epson service centre to reset but it took more than three days to return back. The worse case is it took more than two month if printer head found to be faulty.
I will be much obliged if you could supply reset program to me , I will not distribution your program as it solely for in internal use only. Please let me know if you need some incentive to supply it.
Should you have any question, please contact me at wanyang@streamyx.com

Dude you're in luck, I've managed to steal the adjustment program for the CX5100 to CX5400 from the manager!!! (sticking it to the man from inside) here it is:
I am getting a "save ROM data fail error", when trying to do the rom dump, and inputting the 0 value to 0 under the column that we're supposed to. What next?
Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX1500 by KBOOI (10/16/05 9:36 PM)
Remenber : this program works only for the CX5100, CX5200, CX5300 and CX5400
If you disconected the printer, make sure you have the printer reconected in the same USB port where it was previosly working... and try the reset program again If you have the same problem then disconect the printer unistall the drivers (printer and scanner) and restart your pc. then install the drivers again and conect the printer when the driver program request it. It doesn't matter what state the printer is in as long as is recognized by the pc and the drivers for the scanner & printer are properly installed, you can check the Device Manager on windowsTER properties to see if the drivers are actually working
then start the reset program (when it detects the printer with the drivers installed - scanner & printer then you can proceed to reset the CX5300)
SHOULD! work....:)
RECYCLE, DON'T POLLUTE AND STUFF....

dax: CX4600 Service Software Question by EpsonCX4600Help (10/27/05 10:26 AM)
Is there any software available for the CX4600 to reset the ink counter? I attempted to try the cx1500 software but it detects the printer as being offline so I imagine the software is different.
Please help me out if you can, we need the printer for work, but if all fails I guess we will buy another new one. Thanks so much, my email is bodyilusions@start.ca if you can send me something that might help me -- or post a link if possible if you can post it.
Thanks so much Dax, much appreciated.
PS - I tried the SSC utility but it does not work yet until the next release from what I am told. There is software floating about for the cx4600 as I have been told, but I have been searching high and low for a couple weeks and almost ready to give up & buy another perhaps until someone is feeling kind enough to help me out.
Hope someone has something soon...

Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX1500 by Tyrion (10/30/05 8:07 AM)
I'm glad I was helpful with some of your problems, but currently I only have the adjustment programs I've posted in the past (Epson CX1500, and Epsons CX5100, CX5200, CX5300, CX5400)
I know it's hard not to get ANY support from the companies that make their products or the service support is so expensive that it's just cheaper to buy a new printer. And a lot of people end up buying several printers a year. (TRUST me I've been on BOTH sides of the service support area)
I'm still looking to find newer adjusment programs, and I'll post them as soon as I get them....

CX3500 Adjustment Software ruins my CX3500 printer by Anonymous (11/17/05 10:42 PM)
My 6-months old CX3500 already drinked two set of original ink cartridge black and color. I seldom print and some more rarely in color, but those color ink runs as fast as black. This is really ridiculous and defeats the purpose of so-called individual ink.
Because mostly, I only need to print in black only. I'm just trying to reset color ink cartridge counter. So thought I can cheat printer so that I can still print in black with empty color ink. After many days searching, I got a adjustment software from Internet for CX3500/CX4600...., but no no service manual.
Unfortunately, after try and error a few times, including EEPROM backup and restore, I found, my printer became CX4600, my ink LED still steadily RED even I put on a brand new set of compatible ink cartridge which previously works very well.
To solve the problem, someone recommanded to try to re-config Selling Area (Destination)and Head ID, but when I tried, under "Destination" input box always fixed (dimmed) as "Euro", and when I try to change USB ID, it tells me "Ink Out Error".
Hope anyone of you here could help on this. If you guys need the program. Pls email me at wst1966@yahoo.com. I can send it to you. BUT, pls bear in mind that, USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!! I'd already ruined my printer, don't be the second victim.
And if you finally can manage to know how to use it properly or got its service manual. Appreciate that you can share the know-how to public. Because, we are all poor victims!! EPSON is really too much!
Re: Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX1500 by Anonymous (11/21/05 1:01 AM)
I have just read all these posts. It was hard going but very informative. The first conclusion that I have come to is that you should never ever refer to your self as an arsehole again. There is not a single person here who would be happy with that term. Had I the power I would campaign to have you user name changed to “saviour” or “blessed one”.
My question is…..well I sort of know the answer…….. it’s a C86, the reset counter, service required.
There’s nothing to be done yet is there? The SSC utility software does not reset the C86…..
I guess it will just have to be more money for those Epson PARASITES!

To reset protection counter, first make sure the inkpads are not ready to overflow. If they look reasonably clean, go to the following site & download the software. The C65 is supported but not the CX4700 at this stage. Hope this helps?! Dazz UK http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html

attanama, on the page I posted a link. If you scroll down on that page it will list all the printers supported. The C65 is definately there. The CX1500 has been covered by Dax further back on this thread. There is a link to download, just scroll back. I live in England. sergioaleman, scroll back to a post by "Dax" - he has posted a link to download the utility for CX1500 Hope this helps you both! Dazz UK (freezin' his butt off!)

Another problem I have is with the printhead allignment. I have 'ghost' printing problem, where for each letter typed into the wordprocessor, I get twice that printed to page. Reset protection cntr for EPSON StylusScan 2500 by Anonymous (3/20/06 11:43 AM)
Plueeeeeeeeze.... My SS 2500 is SICK. I changed the overflow tank pads per the printer manual, and cannot seem to find a program (or control panel procedure) to reset the protection counter. I'm DESPERATE! I'm out of warrantee, tried the SSC Service Utility, AND the P00B02W.exe programs, but they won't detect the printer through USB or LPT1. Plus, neither recognizes this printer model. I did hold down the Ink and Paper advance buttons simultaniously as I powered on the unit and get a "Init Eeprom" signal on the lcd panel, but cannot go from there. Helllp!
Re: Reset protection cntr for EPSON StylusScan 2500 by Anonymous (3/20/06 2:20 PM)
Hi, I bought my cx1500 about 14 months ago. Soon after I got it, the printer began to printout artifacts. After each sweep it spits out a dot that makes up a vertical line as it goes down. It seems it spits some ink out as the head finishes moving. Sometimes it goes away, other times it comes back. If I disable 'high speed' (ie do not print on return sweep) it lowers the risk of this happening. I lost the receipt when working out where to take it for repairs and gave up. For a while not it has worked well with no artifacts but now its gone bad and all printouts are unacceptable. Any ideas? Maybe I should just buy another printer.
Thanks, Rauli

I'm in need of some advise, My cx5200 say's my black ink is out, which its not. I've taken it out put it back in several times, uninstalled and reinstalled, used ssc service utility from above post (downloaded the other day, but now it's no longer availible), tapped the cartrage, spanked it. Well, not the spanking part. Any other ideas?
Re: Re: reset protection counter for EPSON CX5200 by Anonymous (9/18/06 12:08 PM)
You need to right click on the SSC icon on the toolbar, then click on protection counter, it says "show current value" & "reset" (or words to the similar) Are you doing this? Dazz UK

Hi, so I downloaded the program you suggest, I'm in Canada, and I can't get the program to work, I'm following the instructions that were included with the program. I followed your instructions dated 08-18-2005 but that didn't reset my printer cartridges. I can't find the Input Head ID, it keeps saying Read MELoadFile Command Error!! HELP ME OH GOD Please help...

EXTRA TIPS re: Counter Re-set method EPSON CX1500 by mgc54 (3/14/07 3:41 PM)
Dax's Method posted on 8/18/05 worked for me with these EXTRA TIPS.
The Epson Utility Download link failed as 'file not found'
Do a Google search for FT0077_0624.exe
I found a Spanish(I think) site which google will translate for you with a working download. When you try to open the download it will most likely fail. Select 'Use the Web Service to find the appropriate program' then 'OK' Rarlab have a free trial, the first on their list of downloads that worked for me.
RESTART YOUR PC once you have installed the utility software.
In the 'Settings and 'Station 1' tabs enter the region closest to you (In my case Australia worked fine, as New Zealand is not listed)
Follow Dax's instructions from there posted on 8/18/05
At the end its suggested you Power Off/On your printer.
After that a FULL PC POWER RESTART was needed here for the counter reset to work properly.
In passing the SSC Service Utility for Epson Stylus Printers URL thats often posted in threads does'nt appear to support the CX1500 model, but I'll stand corrected on this.
