CX5200 - Ink Cartridges Not Recognized

CX5200 - Ink Cartridges Not Recognized by Ron Lottermann (11/18/04 5:54 AM) reply + / -
I have an Epson CX5200 all in one printer. It is in an office and does not get a lot of work. It had stopped printing (spitting out blank pages) and I ran the cleaning sequence numerous times with no luck. But it did run my ink out in the color so I changed all three ink cartridges.

Now I am getting the error light coming on saying that it can't recognize the ink cartridges for all three color inks. I have taken them out and put them back in. They are brand new and are EPSON ink cartridges.

Any thoughts on what might be the problem? Is this something that I can fix?

Thank you for any help you might be able to give.

Ron: If your printer cannot actually recognize those ink cartridges, then its possible that they are actually bad. Thats more common on Non-Epson Ink Cartridges [Generic or Third-Party cartridges], then with New-Epson Ink Cartridges, but does happen. However, the chances of all 3 color ink cartridges actually being bad, are probably very slim. I would have to guess that its far more likely that your printer probably has an actual Hardware/Parts Failure, which does seem to be more common on the "CX5200" model. Especially considering that your printer actually stopped printing, prior to replacing those ink cartridges. If and you were to do a search on this Printer Repair Site [under your Epson CX5200 Printer], you would see that you are not alone in your problem. I've read several posted messages on this Printer Repair Site on just that particular problem [new ink cartridges installed and now won't print at all]. I recommend that you do a general search on the "fixyourownprinter.com" printer repair site, under your CX5200 printer and then you can read about other peoples experiences, their advise and even what they have tried, sometimes successfully. It seems like most of the problems are not actually related to clogging, or even a bad or empty ink cartridge, but is usually more of a Hardware/Parts Failure, but no way for me to really know. It seems to happen most of the time, just by simply repacing the ink cartridges, as normal, or even the printer simply failing to print out at all. The most common problem found with the CX5200 is the tubing on the cap asselbly becomes disconnected. I know this information does not really give you that much to go on, but I felt you should know about other peoples reports, just in case it happens to apply in your case...HERE'S SOME PREVIOUSLY POSTED INFO BY WES: Wes 7/27/2004 09:52:09 Re: manual for disassembling stylus cx5200. The info is available on line at this link. http://canonhelp.freehttp.com/CX5200.html (just click on the disassembly link. It also has the info on how to buy the service manual. I hope this helps. Wes [or] Wes 7/11/2004 14:19:40 Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems. The most common problem found with the CX5200 is the tubing on the cap asselbly becomes disconnected. The cap assembly can't clean the print head if the tube is detached. The print head face may also need to be cleaned as well as the print head itself. For info try these two links http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/Printhead.html http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/phface.html . And for more info on trouble shooting the CX5200 try this link http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/CX5200TS1.html and for disassembly info try here http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/CX52001.html .
