HP PSC 750 by Mel (11/5/04 10:47 AM) reply + / -
I was printing card stock in my printer (which worked for 500 pages a few months ago) and the prongs/teeth that guide the paper (or something) broke off. Two so far. Now any type of paper gets stuck on the nub and the paper gets torn. Can I try gluing the pieces back? or is there somewhere I can get the replacement part? Any suggestions would be great.

The operation of the paper pusher is described below.

Glueing the 'fingers' back on will probably not last last long-term. I sugget replacing them. HP does not currently sell the part. I suggest finding a dead Deskjet 3820 at a thrift store or a place that recycles computer equipment. The paper pusher is almost always good because 3820s fail early.

If you want to do the repair and find a 3820 with a good paper pusher, get back to me for the repair instructions.

Paper Pusher Operation
After a page prints it is necessary for it to be pushed into the paper output tray. Three ‘fingers’ accomplish this just as the page exits the rubber rollers that are visible when the cover is opened. Print a page and view the printer at an angle where you can see the carriage move as printing takes place. At the instant the paper comes out of the rollers, the three 'fingers' will pop-up and push the paper into the output tray.

Tip: Always remove paper jams through the rear access door to avoid breaking the paper pusher.

Thanks for the info. I figured out how to take the printer apart. Just need to find the replacement part.

Remove the scanner glass and clean the underside. Clean the mirror that runs parallel to the scanner bulb with a cotton swab. If that doesn't solve the problem you probably need a new scanner head.

How do I remove the cover from this printer hp 3820

Create a thread with 3820 in the subject line and perhaps someone will reply. Actually, I wouldn't bother if you are getting a carriage jam, because the broken gears are not sold as spares. Do a site search using 3820 to read epic posts on the problem.

Printer works fine, but scanner stays in warm up when I try to use it. It's happening on both printers, but if I change the scanner top from a known good one, it works fine so it's something in the scanner. Have cleaned bulbs, mirrors, and bulbs look plenty bright, so what's next?

Try cleaning the underside of the scanner glass, particularly the home position area on the right. Believe it or not this commonly cures scanner problems.

If the cleaning fails to cure the problem, in spite of appearances, you'll need to find a new scanner, HP P/N C7296-60002. If you want to try changing the lamp you can get generics made by JKL Lamp from digikey.com. Pick the one with closest and length and diameter. People have reported success doing this.
