canon i550 "service error 5100" by graeme (10/31/04 11:59 AM) reply + / -
Well I've all but exhausted my search's on the net so you are my last hope. I have a Canon S6300, which has been working great for the past year and a half up until now that is, My problem being it will not print at all. I've tried new ink's, print head and still keep getting the service error 5100. I e-mailed Canon for them to tell me it's a carriage problem, but they won't go into any futher details. How can I cure this carriage problem? Is there a reset sequence for it? Or does the printer have to be stripped down and the carrage re-aligned. The indicator light flashes green orange, green orange, then stops and then flashes the same sequence again. I don't want to be paying repair shop prices or Canon's prices for that matter. I wouldn't mind, I hardly use the printer so it's not like it's been abused. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi
It could be the encoder strip, runs left to right through the printer, may be either dirty or become dislodged. The carriage uses this strip to detect its position.
Also try lightly lubricating the main carriage shaft with some light machine oil.
There is also a detector that the encoder runs through to send info back to the logic, the sensor is on the back of the carriage, it could be dirty or faulty.
Cheers Mark
