HP Deskjet 3820 site for new gear by Jigglypuff (10/28/04 1:55 PM) reply+1 + / -
I have been reading that there is a site that instructs you how to take apart the deskjet 3820 to take out the cog. Whenever I try to access it, the link is broken. Can someone please give me an update on how I may go about attempting to repair this p.o.s.

I've heard that the site isn't working anymore. I took one of those p.o.s. apart and it's not worth the effort. I've still got a good set of gears in my desk drawer from that sacrifice.

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing. I have a gear with a plastic tab broken off. From trial and error I now know how to get to it. If we're talking about the same thing then email me and I'll try and describe what I took apart to get to the broken gear.
Also, the person with the good set, I'm looking an inexpensive set?
Morris

Were you aware that HP is replacing the 3820 POS with a brand new 5160 or 5560 printer? There are a couple 3820 threads with about 200 posts each containing all kinds of info on how to get one. Do a site search and you'll find them. One of our posters has gotten 5 new ones.

Moe

Is HP replacing 3820 printer in Canada? Thanks for the info.

I put 3820 Canada into the site's search engine and got this http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/laser/24796#33

Okay, thanks, Moe. I've already looked at some of these, but not all of them. I'm not pleased, at seeing a response from, SCarter, to, de OMM, that "Canada sucks". We're dealing printer problems, not people problems.

I'll need to get on the phone to HP Canada to see if they will replace one out of the two, I have. Both have the same problem. One, I have torn down to find the gear problem as suggested by others on the forum. I can't seem to fix it, as some others have on the forum by putting in a (steel? pin to replace the plastic broken tab on the gear. Thanks, again for your help.

You probably can get both replaced. I don't think there is any limit. If you can't get any satisfaction from HP Canada, I'd suggest you email de OMM and maybe he can offer advice since he met with success. Sometimes you just have to be lucky and talk to the right person at HP. Good luck.

Re: HP Deskjet 3820 blank paper by dragon64 (9/27/05 3:25 AM) reply + / -
All of a sudden the printer started to send out a blank paper without printing anything. I have also noticed that when the cradle moves back from left to right, the paper guides are still up, consequently the cradle hits all three guides. Can anyone give any hints.

Thank you

When the guides are up they should be far enough forward that they are out of the way.

Is the carriage moving back and forth like it's printing?

Perform the Blot Test

Remove cartridge from machine, fold a paper towel back over a couple of times so it is about 4 layers thick, shake cartridge up and down hard, shake it over a sink unless you want to clean ink off the floor.

Now blot the nozzles of the cartridge on the paper towel, for a black cartridge you should see two black stripes, for a color cartridge you should see three colored stripes, if you don't have all stripes the cartridge is clogged or bad.

Have you checked the expiration date on the cartridges you are using?

Are you installing new HP cartridges, or refills?

You may be able to recover a clogged cartridge by swishing the tip in a saucer with a very small amount of warm water, then gently wiping it on a wet paper towel, be gentle the nozzles are delicate.
