 | Lexmark X1180 All in 1 by James (10/27/04 5:37 AM) reply | +7 + / - | Hi I have a Lexmark X1180 and the colour ink cartridge run out, so I got one of the refillable kits and duly went about re filling the cartridge. I re installed it and the printer software recognized that I had changed the cartridge so I selected the relevant option of saying it was a new cartridge installed. I did a couple of prints and it was fine, but then the colour started going funny and eventually stopped printing in colour. I thought that this could be because I was being a cheapskate by trying to re use the cartridge by re filling it, so I went out and bought a new colour cartridge, installed this and still the same problem. It prints in black with no problems but it still won't print in colour. I also had another new colour cartridge on order and when that arrived I tried that but again no colour. I have heard that some cartridges have chips that need to be reset, however I cannot find any info anywhere with regards to this all in one printer if it has a chip or not. Anyone any ideas or does it need a repair? Any info would be appreciated

 | Re: Lexmark X1180 All in 1 by Derek (10/28/04 5:40 AM) reply | + / - | James,Ive got an X1160, when it works it is great, but I think they are built to self destruct, I have been refilling but you can only refill each cartridge at the most, three times, I was told by a refill shop that you must on no accounts touch any part of the contacts on the cartridge,with anything, as it shorts out the chip inside, this guy had one and he actually drilled holes in the cartridge holder in the right places so that he could refill without removing them!
But in all honesty I think that lexmark have been really clever and built their printers with a life fuse!
And until a similarily clever guy finds out how to sort it out (he would make a fortune, or get shot by Lexmark) We will be stuck with buying new printers just as the warranty runs out.
I'm a bit livid here because my printer (yesterday) decided that it would no longer print in colour, it has a two week old cartridge in it and was printing fine, but if you say that even replacing the cartridge with a new one it still wont print, I think I will save the horrendous price of a new cartridge (because you cant get clones, another Lexmark ploy) and put it towards another brand of printer. Sorry I cant help and thanks for letting me ge that off my chest. Derek.

They just asked where I bought it and when, and took the serial number. Told them got it in August, but the serial said it was made in may but got it exchanged within days. told me to take the faulty one to a recycling centre. You have to keep all of the power cables though as they don't send you replacements for these or for ink.

I phoned Lexmark and spent half an hour talking to a person that did not speak a great deal of English. Two days later I received a new colour cartridge, but this doesn't work either. I'm beginning to distrust Lexmark products.

I tried it on my daughter's comp' with the same result. I've just bought an Epson CX3600 as a replacement. I won't be buying any Lexmark products in the near future.

I disconnected it from the drive and eventually it came on. whenever i try and connect it, it does the same thing. I was told that it might have caused a virus that wont let me use it. If i install another brand of printer will it do the same thing? How do i remede this.

I have followed the instructions and filled the black one o.k. Howeverwhen it comes to the colour one you have 3 separate colours to use, you have to drill three holes presumably? and fill each with the correct colour, but how do you know where the colours go and where the holes go? the black one was simple I just drilled the hole and filled it and put a provided black rubber plug into the drilled hole once finished. though theres a little bit of colour left I haven't tried it as yet (now the black is full again just to see if it works.) I've got a feeling I may have touched something on the cartridge which I should not have, reading these posts....

The installation wizard will only recognise the printer as USB hub
But does not install as a USB device.
It enters in the device manager as an unknown device USB hub with a yellow Question mark.Then can't find any drivers.
I've deleted and reinstalled all the USB hub references but all to no avail
Any ideas as what to do next
Lexmark say it's Evasham's problem
Evesham say it's Lexmark's
It works perfectly on my other computer runnning Windows 98

Installs fine (finally) and I can open the Lemark Photo Editor and the Solution Center but cannot open the All-In-One Center main page, just comes up with a graphic and a message saying "All-In-One-Center preparing for first use. Please wait" with "searching for scanning applications" but sticks on this idefinately. Someone please help!!!!!!!!!!

Re-installed from disc half dozen times, downloaded updated drivers from lexmark site, totally stripped down printer can find nothing wrong, rebuilt, still the same, incidentally this is the replacement for another 1180 that stopped printing needless to say no more lexmark products for me

if you want to see what is dead, swap cartridges into the other holsters and see if the black prints. If it prints color and no black, then its the printer. If it prints black and no color, its your Cartridge

I just got a LEXMARK X1180 printer....
Colour in is finish so i got a new catridge...
My original catridge was a nr. 26 but the retailer sold me 27 and told me that its the same....
The 26 worked but the 27 does not print at all.
All i want to find out is the following
IS 27 printer catridge compatable with the X1180
or should i get a 26 from the retailer.

Bought a second hand 1180, again Plugged in/installed, goes through the motions and guess what, YES Blankety Blank.
Any Ideas anyone how to elimimate the dam Blankety Blank.
Anyone can answer this except anyone called "Blankety Blank".

The Problem is not with installation, it seems to install ok (with the disc), just wont give any inky pinky out the blooming thing, well both of them?
My xp/control Panel/printers/properties tells me its ok and it is the right printer, it goes through the motions beautifully, quickly and quietly, cant fault that.
Swopped inks, cleaned inks, reset the settings on the lexmark installation menu, type of cartridge 26/27,16/17, new/old etc, clicked ok and it starts to print, Blankety Blanks each time????
If I was to get just a hint of Ink out of it, I would give it a birthday present===New Inks, but alas back to my Old HP Officejet
:).
Until I find a cure its = Lexmark X1180/90 All in 1 Cupboard.

It works just untill the end because then the program isn't capable to find or kopy files . I have the center on my computer , but the printer and the pc will not make contact.
Please help me , i urgently need to print some files !

I changed mine for a Canon and haven't looked back. The Canon prints faster, better and for less than half the price per page! At home I haven't missed the scanner at all, but ironically it has found its way to my office desk this morning as I have a load of scanning to do!
Old lexmarks never die, they just run out of ink!

Paper was jammed and ever since power bottom keeps flashing and computer sayng printer not communicating, I notced that someone else had a similar problem.

My x1180 does the one flash/two flash thing and won't print unless i remove the black cartridge. don't want to waste money on a black cartridge if its the printer as copper7op suggests. has anyone got theres to work by replacing the black?

| Re: Lexmark X1180 All in 1 by Anonymous (1/4/08 4:41 AM) reply | + / - | The contact points in the carridge (the thing in the printer that your cartriges clip into) can become dirty and therefore it does not make contact with the cartridges. All you do is clean the contact points on the machines caridge, and cartridge with a cloth with a bit of spirits or alcohol on it. Once thy make contact the printer should work, if this (dirty contacts) was the problem. Good luck.

Cleaning the carriage and cartridge failed to cure it but a new black cartridge did the job. my old one wasn't empty just FUBAR.
For anyone else who's x1100 series fails to print but scans ok and flashes the power light- take out each cartridge in turn and see if it stops flashing, replacing the relevent cartridge should cure it.
