 | Re: epson printer problems by Wes (10/26/04 10:40 PM) | + / - | The most likely problem is a bad ink cartridge. It's pretty common on generic ink cartridges. But it could be a failing print head or main board. Or just a clogging problem. You could try a few print head cleanings and see if that helps. If it gets worse then I would suspect the ink cartridge again. I hope this helps, Wes.

 | Re: epson printer problems by Don Rosen (11/11/04 5:58 PM) | + / - | My Epson "Photo R300" seems unwilling to print in black - even though I'm only out of yellow. It seems absurd ? If having low ink of one colour disables the machine, having six different cartridges is nuts !

 | Re: epson printer problems by D. L. Hemmings (11/14/04 6:52 PM) | + / - | My Epson Sstylus 800 printer has a color printing problem. I have run "head cleaning" optionat least 20 times and the test printing pattern never changed. all the patterns were normal except the red pattern. There never was a change at any time in the missing parts of the line that did not print. Is it possible to manually clean the part this responsible for this malfunction? I am mechanically inclined and not afraid to take on a task unless special tools are required, then for me it is hands off. dlh

 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (11/16/04 1:30 PM) | + / - | Heather...We need more info to go on: When you say it won't print, do you mean that the paper goes thru the printer like normal and the printer goes thru the motions of printing, but no ink is actually getting on the paper? Are there any error messages coming up on your monitors screen? Are there any SOLID or FLASHING red Service Error Lights, that are coming on the printer itself? If so, then actually tell us just what each light on your printer is doing [OFF, SOLID, FLASHING, or a combination of those three]. Did you recently install new ink cartridges? If so, did you remenber to pull off the yellow pull tape that is on the top of most new ink cartridges? Do you actually use Non-Epson Ink Cartridges [Generic or Third-Party cartridges] in your printer?...Give us more info to go on and if we can help further, we will try...Denny Conway

 | Re: epson printer problems by Joel (11/17/04 11:22 AM) | + / - | hi. i have recently bought an epson stylus c86 photo edition. I have only used it to print out a few documents, but it is already reporting that the black ink cartridge is empty and refusing to print anything. Does the ink really run out this quickly or is it a hardware or software problem??
|
 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (11/17/04 11:34 AM) | + / - | Joel: I'm sorry, I can't really tell you where your ink is going. I'm not actually trained on your "C86" model and have not even seen onr yet. I can tell you that if your printer is actually in an ADD INK CONDITION, then the only thing that you can actually do, is to replace that ink cartridge. Ink is used up anytime you are printing out and anytime you run the "Printhead Cleaning Cycle" & "Nozzle Test". Some ink is purged from the actual printhead nozzles, to keep the ink inside of them fresh, but that is not normally that muck ink thats used. JUST SO YOU WILL KNOW: One individual printhead nozzle is so tiny, that it will not accept a human hair. You can see why they can get clogged so easily, or even why the nozzles can be so easily damaged, sometimes by simply using the wrong type of ink...You may be able to get help directly from the "Epson Technical Support Department". At least that way you are dealing with a technician thats trained on your particular model, by Epson Company. To see available phone numbers for technical support, go on-line to Epson @ " www.epson.com ", or call the Epson Automated Support Locator @ 1-800-442-2110 [press 1, then 1 & following prompts]. If your printer is new and still under warranty, then there is no charge involved to talk to the technical support department. If your printer was actually out of warranty, then you would need a credit card, before the technicians can help you, because there is a charge for technical support over the phone. You can also e-mail the "Epson Technical Support Department", for possible free help or advice, at www.epson.com and then click-on "Proceed With E-Mail". They state on their web-site, that they "will respond via e-mail within 1 business day"...Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: epson printer problems by Stacy (11/17/04 3:35 PM) | + / - | Hi, I have an Epson Stylus CX5400 printer that doesn't want to print but every other line. It just ran out of black ink and I replaced it, but it still doesn't want to print right. I have tried the Head Cleaning like four times and that still doesn't help any. Do you have any suggestion?
|
 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (11/17/04 4:11 PM) | + / - | Stacy: I'm sorry, but I'm not actually trained on the newer "CX" or "R" models, so I can't be of much actual help to you. Those models are so new that I have not even seen one that was not actually under warranty still. Epson Company does not even allow their dealers to work on the "CX" or "R" Models under warranty. They simply send a Replacement Printer in exchange for the defective unit thats under warranty and the defective printer is then sent back to Epson. If your printer is still under its origional Factory Warranty [1 year], you can call the Epson Connection, at 1-562-276-1300 and file an actual warranty claim...Try running a "Nozzle Test Page" [located under Maintenace Tab on the Printer Properties] to see if all the nozzles are open and printing. If some of the nozzles are not actually open and printing, that would indicate a possible clogging or even a failure in the Printhead Assembly. If it looks like the printhead nozzles may be clogged, then you might want to try using the "Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution", available through the Home Page on "fixyourownprinter.com", at http://fixyourownprinter.com/ , but it will only help, if there is an actual clogged Printhead Assembly. When it opens, click-on Epson, under PRINTER REPAIR KITS. Then click-on "Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution" and that page should then open correctly. The Epson Solution sells for around $10.00 plus shipping. It includes a syringe and some Epson Printhead Cleaning Solution, which is designed to dissolve most clogs, especially if you were using Epson inks. This is the same chemical used by Epson in their service department. You can try it if you want to and see if you can get the printhead nozzles to open up again, but that will only help if they are actually clogged. It was basically designed by Epson Company for use on their older models of ink jet printers, but people have been using it on the newer models, with success reported. IF YOU DECIDE TO, TRY THE "EPSON STYLUS HEAD CLEANING SOLUTION", JUST REMEMBER: The "nozzles" inside the printhead assembly can be easily damaged by using to much force on the plunger of the syringe. Damage can even occur when you are using the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution method, if you actually try to force the fluid thru the nozzle. To much force/pressure can damage the little tubes inside the Nozzle Assembly and then it will never work again. One individual printhead nozzle is so tiny, that it will not accept a human hair. You can see why they can get clogged so easily, or even why the nozzles can be so easily damaged. The correct method is to use the syringe to add the fluid into the nozzle and then leave the fluids set inside the nozzle for a day or two, to try and dissolve a possible bad clog. Sometimes you might have to use the fluids several times to be able to dissolve the clog in the printhead nozzles. Sometimes the clog will never dissolve, or it actually damages the nozzles. The longer the clog has been in, the worse it is to remove. Again, if the cleaning fluids don't help, then its generally time to invest in a new printer. In some more expensive printers, you may want to get an estimate to replace the printhead assembly, but as a general rule, its not really economical to do in the smaller Epson Ink Jet style printers. You can generally buy a new small printer cheaper than you can have your old one repaired for. EXAMPLE: The printhead assembly in the "C80" Printer sells for around $120 to $130. There is a REVIEW of the Printhead Cleaning Solution kit, available to view at http://www.inkjetprinterhelp.us/EKR.html ...Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: epson printer problems by Wes (11/21/04 5:21 PM) | + / - | If it acts like it's printing but only gives you a blank page then this might help. The print head is clogged. Try running the print head utility a few times. Clean the print heads by performing a head cleaning followed by printing a nozzle check pattern. A head cleaning and nozzle check pattern must be performed as a cycle. After printing a nozzle check pattern, examine the printed dot pattern. Each staggered horizontal and straight vertical line should be complete, with no gaps in the dot pattern. If there are gaps in the dot pattern, continue with another cycle. Perform up to 3 cycles if necessary. If that does not help then you can buy the print head cleaning kit from this site http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kea0.html and if you want to see what is involved in cleaning the print head using the kit this link will help http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/printhead.html If you would like to find out one reason why the print head clogged after changing the ink cartridge read this link http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/why.html if you want to really test the print output try printing the page from this link http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/Color.html Are there any lights flashing or on solid besides the power light? | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (11/22/04 12:20 PM) | + / - | Merv: If your printers red ink light is not actually on, but it still will not print in black or colors [even though your cartridges have ink in them], then its possible that you may have a different problem, which unfortunatly seems to be quite common on the C80/C82 series. If there is no actual red ink light on and you were to do a search on this Printer Repair Site [under your Epson C80 printer], you would see that you are not alone in your problem. I've read several posted messages on this Printer Repair Site on just that particular problem [new ink cartridges installed and now won't print at all]. I recommend that you do a general search on the "fixyourownprinter.com" printer repair site, under your C80 printer and then you can read about other peoples experiences, their advise and even what they have tried, sometimes successfully. It seems like most of the problems are not actually related to clogging, or even a bad or empty ink cartridge, but is usually more of a Hardware/Parts Failure, but no way for me to really know. It seems to happen most of the time, just by simply repacing the ink cartridges, as normal. I know this information does not really give you that much to go on, but I felt you should know about other peoples reports, just in case it happens to apply in your case...There is an "EPSON C70/C80 Printer Instruction Page", available to view at http://www.inkjetprinterhelp.us/c80.html , that may be of some help, but you may still need a Service Manual, for any in-depth troubleshooting...I have not checked, but you can normally find Service Manuals and or Service Adjustment Programs/Resets for most printers, from 2manuals.com, at http://www.2manuals.com (most Service Manuals can usually be downloaded for around $10 /- ). If that source is not available, then I would recommend that you go to the "Compass Micro Inc" web-site, at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm and check with them directly, to see if they have a Service Manual or Reset Procedure available yet for your printer. Several people have posted that they have manuals available for the newer printers, that are not actually available from other normal sources...HERE'S SOME PREVIOUSLY POSTED INFORMATION THAT MAY APPLY ON YOUR PRINTERS PROBLEM: AVTECH 3/14/2004 16:39:23 Re: Epson C82 Not Printing. If anyone is interested, I was successful in repairing my C82's problem with printing blank pages. I noticed that under the pad where the heads sit when parked, there is a black hose attached to it. That black hose is supposed to be attached to another clear hose. Mine was not. The clear hose was sitting there attached to nothing. I took the cover off of the printer, and pulled the seating pad over to the right. I was then able to use a pair of needlenose pliers and a pair of tweezers to put these 2 hoses back together again. I then powered up the printer and ran a head cleaning. Much to my surprise, the hoses blew apart again, leaving a pretty good mess with ink splatters. I cleaned up, then removed the hose clamp from the hose which is visible at the front of the assembly. I then transferred it to the hoses under the pad. I then used a simple wire tie to re-clamp the front hose. I then ran a head cleaning again. this time, everything stayed together. I re-connected to my PC, ran a nozzle check, and voila, it prints. A few head cleanings later, and it was printing like normal again. It took about 2 hours to figure out how to get it apart and find the problem, but, now my printer is functional again. Hope this helps. I wish I had taken pictures to show the steps...[OR]...FOLLOW_UP INFO POSTED BY: dieter 3/24/2004 10:13:30 Re: Epson C82 Not Printing-->FIXED! The posting of AVTECH on 3/14/04 actually fixed my c82 on the spot. The repair took 30 min without proper finger-pliers. With long pliers it can be done w/o opening the cover. It seems, the hose is connected to a vacuum hose-pump. The vaccum sucks ink out of every set of color-heads at start and also during the cleaning procedure. This assures instant full functionallity and removes all the dry ink bits...[OR]...Martyn Thompson 3/21/2004 03:11:52 Subject: Epson Stylus C82 solution: Hi all. I have had problems with the head clogging on the C82. After spending a small fortune on new cartridges to find it still didn't work (it is just out of warranty, been 14 months old) I took off the lid (4 screws, 4 plastic latches). I found under the cleaning pad the suction hose (a small plastic pipe) had come loose, so any number of head cleans were a waste of time as the ink wasn't been drawn thro'. The most difficult part was reconnecting the tiny hose onto the plastic nipple under the cleaning pad (in the end my girlfriend with her small fingers and two pair of thin nosed pliers did the job). The pad itself is on a 'drawer' that slides to the right of the printer, so you can access underneath it. I would suggest everyone with problems of head not cleaning should check for this - providing their own printer is out of warranty. I can provide greater details of this if you are interested. I am not a repairer by trade though, but it has been successful for me. All the best, Martyn...P.S. You can e-mail Martyn if you want to, by simply clicking on his posted name on his message board @ http://fixyourownprinter.com/printer/new/17697.html ...[OR]...Paul 3/25/2004 13:06:15 Re: Epson C82 Not Printing. I concur - fixed mine by reconnecting the hoses. There are two screws on the back of the printer and two screws on the inside of the front panel under the printer cover. Remove all 4, unclip the case at the four points marked by arrows (one on each side and two on the bottom, then the last retainer is on the inside of the case on the left hand side (opposite the ink pad), release that and pivot the case open to the right. Tweezers and two zip ties fixed mine, and three nozzle checks gave good prints again. Thanks for the help!.....Sorry, for the possible bad news, but I thought you should know more about your possible problem...Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (11/22/04 12:35 PM) | + / - | Nemia...If you had to remove a bad paper jam, then the following information, may apply to your printer: There is a common problem when you get a constant jam condition, or paper won't feed in correctly after a bad jam was removed, or even when the printer or your computer thinks that the paper has not been correctly loaded. If you have recently had a bad paper jam that you had to forcefully yank out of your printer, especially towards the rear of the printer, in the backwards direction, then its possible that a part was unhooked/unseated, or even damaged. When paper is pulled to the rear/backwards with force, it usually unseats the arm on the "Paper Jam Sensor Assy", resulting in a constant jam condition. Normally, as paper passes thru the printer, it causes a black plastic arm [with a spring attached] to be pushed forward out of the "Paper Jam Sensor". As the trail edge of the paper leaves the plastic arm, the spring causes the plastic arm to be pulled back into its normal position [into that sensor assembly]. When the arm does not correctly return, the sensor is not activated and the printer thinks there is a paper jam [even though you can not see any paper in the paper path], or does not correctly feed-in the paper, because the sensor is not correctly actuated. Of course I have no way to really know whats wrong with your printer, or even if this is your problem but you have to start some place and I've seen this happen many times. Because of the disassembly and troubleshooting involved, you will find it easier to do with a Service Manual for reference. You have to realize that your printer does not actually have the ability to see any paper in your printer. It depends on electrical signals transmitted thru sensors, to determine if there is a jam or if the paper is out. Usually what happens is that the plastic arm is unhooked at its pivot points, or sometimes actually broken/damaged and cannot return back into the paper sensor. You would have to remove the printers "Top Cover" to be able to shine a flashlight in to possibly see the arm of the paper jam sensor. Again, even removing that Top Cover may require a Service Manual to use for reference and probably even for troubleshooting your possible problem. If you can get the "Top Cover" off: Most of the time you will have to carefully, partially remove the plastic "Paper Holder Assy" in the rear of the printer[usually 2 screws], far enough to be able to fully see and hopefully be able to reinstall the arm assy into its pivot points/holder assy [providing that is your problem, of course]...TECH NOTE: You will need to turn the printer around to disassemble and partially remove the paper holder assembly...WATCHING NOW FROM THE REAR SIDE: Closely observe how the "paper holder assy" comes out/slides out, esp on the left side. The right side is normally just held in by a screw, but the left side [also held in by one screw] is also positioned under and slightly into the paper feed clutch/motor assy. You usually don't need to fully remove the left end of the paper holder assy to be able to see and reconnect the sensor's arm and spring. You do need to be able to reinstall the left end back under/into that clutch assy, or paper won't feed-in correctly. Go slow and LOOK AT EVERYTHING CLOSELY. Check every thing/every step VERY CLOSELY, so you can put it back together again correctly. If the sensor's arm was not broken, or damaged [and its normally just unhooked] you can just try to correctly reinstall it back into its normal position. Once the sensor's arm is correctly positioned, then slowly and carefully reassemble everything, except leave the "Top Cover" off for testing. TECH NOTE: On some Epson models, when you remove the top cover, there is a "Ribbon Cable" [electrical cable] plugged into the top cover itself. If you are not careful, you may find that you have to replug that Ribbon Cable back into its connector on the top cover, for testing purposes. Plug-in and turn-on the printer, but don't load any paper yet. If no immediate jam indicator comes on [once the printer is turned back on], it usually indicates the sensor assy is working normally now. Now load paper as normal [with the top cover still off] and if no "Error Lights/LED's" come on, push the paper/resume button to feed in paper part way [as normal]. Push the same button a second time to finish feeding the paper thru the printer. If successfull, run the same test several times, just to be sure. If the paper does not feed in, you'll probably have to start over on the disassembly of the "paper holder assy" and try to see what went wrong while you performed the reassembly/reinstallation of that assembly. Of course, if that sensor arm was not your problem, once the Top Cover is off, you may be able to actually see the possible problem. You may still need to try and locate an actual Service Manual on-line, to buy and download for reference in disassembly, troubleshooting and servicing. I have not checked, but you can normally find Service Manuals for most printers, from 2manuals.com, at http://www.2manuals.com (most Service Manuals can usually be downloaded for around $10 /- ). If that source is not available, then I would recommend that you go to the "Compass Micro Inc" web-site, at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm and check with them directly, to see if they have a Service Manual available yet for your printer. Several people have posted that they have manuals available for the newer printers, that are not actually available from other normal sources...Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (11/22/04 12:45 PM) | + / - | PK: WES already told you what you can try, if your printer is simply trying to print, but no ink is actually getting onto the paper. Wes also asked you: "Are there any lights flashing or on solid besides the power light?". As you did not answer that question, I can only assume that your printer is not actually even trying to do any printing at all. If so, then that basically indicates a communication failure between your Printer and your Computer System...HERE'S A TEST YOU CAN TRY: On most Epson Printers you can usually run an "Internal Epson Self-Test Page" to determine whether a problem comes from the printer itself or possibly from your Computer System. Of course if there are actually any Red Error Lights/Leds, already showing on your printer, that would indicate that there is already a problem in your printer. Not all Epson Printers are always the same, but the following information applies to most models. If this self-test does not actually work on your particular printer, then you should refer to your "User's Manual/Owners Manual" for the correct procedure on how to run your printers self-test page. First unhook/unplug the printer cable from the back or side of the printer. Leave the power cord still plugged in to the wall and leave the paper loaded, as normal. Turn the printer off for 10 seconds or so, to clear out any remaining DATA or Information that may still have been in the printers system, from when the computer was previously connected. Normally [on most models] you turn the printer off and then you simply reach over and hold-in on the Paper Button, while you reach over and turn the Power Button back on, as normal. Continue to hold in on the paper button for about 3 to 5 seconds, but release the power button after turning your printer on. Release the paper button once you can hear and see the printer starting to initialize and start to pull-in a piece of paper. The printer will normally print out the Internal Epson Self-Test Copy, which will also have a Nozzle Test on it. If that test fails, or cannot actually be ran because the "Red Error Lights" come on, then you know that there is an actual problem in the printer. Depending on the combination of which lights are on SOLID, or FLASHING or OFF, will actually indicate the possible Service Error Condition. ON THE OTHER HAND: If everything is working correctly in the printers Paper Feed Assembly, Carriage Assembly/Cartridge Assembly and the Printhead Assembly, then the self-test copy should be printed out and correctly fed thru the printer. If the self-test page prints out correctly and the nozzle test looks ok, then that indicates that your printer thinks it is working normally [as far as the self-test goes]. This does not mean your printer may not be dirty, or have another service related problem, or possibly even nearly empty ink cartridges. If your printer is working ok, then your problem could be in your Computer System/PC: bad drivers, bad printer cable, bad software, incorrect internal PC settings, possible hardware/parts problems, possible virus, etc...Good Luck! | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (11/22/04 1:26 PM) | + / - | Paul: Your particular model was actually made by Epson Company for sales outside the USA [where I live], so I just wanted to give you a pointer, in case you don't get any replies back on your posted message. If you were to open a new & separate message board, listing your printer make, model and a short description of its problem, in the actual SUBJECT LINE, you might have a better chance on getting a reply. Especially from someone that is framiliar with your particular model and possibly its problem. A lot of technicians and people that help out on this Printer Repair Site, read the actual SUBJECT LINE, rather than reading each individual message. They are looking for makes & models of printers that they are actually trained on, or framiliar with. If you were to post a completely new message, with a subject like "RE: Epson Laser C8500, Toner Banding Problems", then there's a greater chance that someone that works on, or is framiliar with your printer, may actually see and read your posted message. Then the chances are better that they may be able to actually help you with your printers problem. IT'S EASY TO POST A NEW SEPARATE MESSAGE: Just go to the "fixyourownprinter.com" web-site and under MESSAGE BOARD, click-on PRINTER REPAIR FORUM. The first page will open up; scroll down to bottom of the page; in the bottom left corner is "click here to post a new message". Now you can post your new Subject Header & your printers problem.....Just in case nobody is actually able to help you on this Printer Repair Site: I also wanted to let you know that you can contact the EPSON TECHNICAL SUPPORT DEPARTMENT in your region or area, by going to the EPSON GLOBAL WEB-SITE, at www.epson.com and checking your available options. At least that way, you are dealing with a technician thats trained on your particular model, by Epson Company....Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: epson printer problems by Margaret (11/28/04 6:38 AM) | + / - | I have a Epson photo 830u The black ink ran low. I didn't print anything for a week or so, and when I did it said ink out. I changed the cartridge. Went through all the checks etc. would not print. (Thought it might be a faulty cartridge.) Replaced cartridge a second time, it refuses to print. I have done so many nozzle and cleaning checks that it is telling me I have used a 1/4 of the ink already. Please help before I throw it though the window.

 | Re: epson printer problems by Peter (12/5/04 8:00 AM) | + / - | A few months ago my computer crashed - apparently due to an incompatibility between Norton and a anti Spyware program. I had it repaired and the information recovered etc. The printer program had been erased so I reinstalled it with the original Epsom C80 disc. All is well escept the following: The computer no longer tells me when the printer is low on ink - the cartoon cartridges are there, but "dull" and not outlined in color. When I print photographs from CDs or email the colors are dark, sort of "underexposed". I cannot find anything under Properties or whatever that will make it possible to adjust this brightness. All suggestions would be appreciated. At this point I am ready to take the d--- thing to the dump! Thanks PHT

 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (12/6/04 10:49 AM) | + / - | Peter: The only thing I can suggest, is to delete your printer and then go on-line to epson.com and download the newest available Printer Drivers and see if that works better. You can delete your printer and its drivers and then download the latest available drivers from the Epson Home Page at http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/index.jsp . As drivers are FREE, I usually recommend trying those first if you have a possible communication problem. Bad or corrupted drivers can cause many problems. DEINSTALL [remove] your old printers first and then go to the epson.com web-site. Click-on your particular area, where you live [example: USA]. Then click-on DRIVERS AND SUPPORT and then click-on your particular type of Epson Printer [example: INKJET]. Look under the Ink Jet Printers for your "Epson Stylus C80" and click-on it. Once the DOWNLOAD PAGE opens, read the INFORMATION to locate your particular SYSTEM [Win's 95,98,ME,2000.etc.] and then click-on it. Follow the directions and read all the available information concerning your systems driver downloads. Finally at the bottom of the page, click-on "Printer Software Installation for Windows ___ [Epson Printers]", or the "Download" option button. After the downloading utility opens, read the download information available, make your choices and complete the installation...Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: epson printer problems - 740 by JVOORTMAN (12/7/04 1:12 PM) | +1 + / - | Epson Stylus 740 issue. I just replaced the black cartidge because the light started flashing, but when I pushed the button underneath the ink droplets picture (to get the carriage to return to it's regular position) all of a sudden all the light are flashing and the printer doesn't work anymore. This happened a long time ago, but I can't remember what the resolution was. I think it was something to do with holding down certain buttons while pushing the power button. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (12/8/04 9:44 AM) | + / - | Joe: There is a common problem when you get a constant jam condition, or paper won't feed in correctly after a bad jam was removed, or even when the printer or your computer thinks that the paper has not been correctly loaded: If you have recently had a bad paper jam that you had to forcefully yank out of your printer, especially towards the rear of the printer, in the backwards direction, then its possible that a part was unhooked/unseated, or even damaged.

I went through the paces that you recommended and unfortunately nothing good happened. I then - again - deleted my C80 and reinstalled it with the original CD and it now works as before the crash, i.e. with no warning as to the status of the ink etc. Obviously a textbook case of planned obsolescence, as one can buy a new printer for the price of two sets of replacement ink cartridges for the C80, next time it runs out, after calming down I will take it to the dumpster and then buy a new printer - and this time not an Epsom. Thank you again for your advice. Peter

 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (12/9/04 2:32 PM) | +1 + / - | Peter: You're welcome and good luck with your next printer...JUST REMEMBER: Any printer that sells for under $100.00, is considered in the Printer Industry as being a disposable printer. In fact, its starting to look like any printer under $150.00 is more or less starting to look like they are becoming disposable as well. Unfortunatly, its becoming a disposable world anymore and it seems like quality is a thing of the past. Printers cost a lot more just a few years ago, but they were built better and lasted longer. As prices started to come down, it seems like the quality also came down. Its usually cheaper to buy a new printer, than to have your fairly new printer repaired. You're right. In some cases, its almost cheaper to buy a new inexpensive printer, than replace all the ink cartridges...Denny Conway

 | Re: epson printer problems by Nancy (12/10/04 10:36 AM) | + / - | I'm having a difficult time getting my Epson Stylus Photo 800 printer to accept the 5.5 x 8.5 300 gsm doublesided photo paper I'm using. I'm loading one sheet at a time, and it takes many, many tries to get the printer to grab the paper correctly. Usually it justs shoots it through, doesn't catch it at all, or catches it slightly, then stops. Epson says it's because I'm not using Epson paper. Actually the reverse side prints better than the front. I've tried slightly bowing the paper, in case it was slightly curved. I've tried holding a couple fingers very lightly against the paper. I've actually printed about 20 on both sides, so it can be done, but I may not get these Christmas cards out before spring.

 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (12/13/04 10:38 AM) | + / - | Nancy: If your printer is having problems printing onto a partricular paper stock, there's not much you can really do, other than try a different stock. Its possible that the rubber "Paper Pick-Up/Feed-In Roller" may be slightly worn or even dirty, but thats not something you can easily get to for cleaning. Even then, if its actually the paper stock you are using, cleaning that roller may not actually help. A printer will usually print onto paper stock varieties that its not designed to use, when its new. However, once that printer starts to get some age and use on it, it may no longer accept that same paper stock. You could invest in a Service Manual [if you can locate one] and disassemble your printer and then clean the roller with "Rubber Roller Cleaner/Rubber Rejuvinator", to see if that helps. Its also possible that it could actually not help at all, especially on certain types of paper stocks...I have not checked, but you can normally find Service Manuals and or Service Adjustment Programs/Resets for most printers, from 2manuals.com, at http://www.2manuals.com (most Service Manuals can usually be downloaded for around $10 /- ). | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (12/13/04 1:58 PM) | + / - | Erik: JUST TO LET YOU KNOW: If your printers red ink light is not actually on, but it still will not print in black or colors [even though your cartridges have ink in them], then its possible that you may have a different problem, which unfortunatly seems to be quite common on the C80/C82 series. The most common problem is that a small hose under the Cleaning Station Assembly comes off. When that happens, it causes vacuum to be lost, resulting in no ink printing. It seems to happen most of the time, just by simply repacing the ink cartridges, as normal. I know this information does not really give you that much to go on, but I felt you should know about other peoples reports, just in case it happens to apply in your case. Check for an e-mail from me, with some previously posted information, on that possible problem...There is an "EPSON C82 Disassembly Instructions Page", that is available to view at http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/c821.html , that may be of some help to you in at least removing the Top Cover Assembly [Page #27 lists HOUSING REMOVAL]...I have not checked, but you can normally find Service Manuals and or Service Adjustment Programs/Resets for most printers, from 2manuals.com, at http://www.2manuals.com (most Service Manuals can usually be downloaded for around $10 /- ). After replacing it with new "expensive" ink cartridges, my C82 printer prints blank pages. I have never actually had a printer that worked for more than 8 months. There's a word for this type of business practice. It's "SCAM." Whether or not people know it, there's a dirty little secret and that is, none of your printers work!! It's absolutely amazing how you can stay in business with such a poor quality product. Eventually though, I'm confident people will catch on and you will go by the wayside. Even your customer service stinks. Everyone i spoke to today refused to appease me in any qualified way. I was even hung up on by Mark while trying to get some technical assistance. I suggest that if you really tape phone calls for quality assurance, you obtain that one and all the others I had to get through while paying a hefty price for long distance phone calls from New York City. I will be sending all of my accumulated data regarding my C-82 experiences to the New York State Consumer protection Board, the New York State Attorney Generals office and the BBB. Just see how much it will cost you for all your lawyers to return answers to my complaints. You'll be sorry you treated me so poorly. Sincerely, Hank Aberle

This is the first time the following error message has occurred:"Parts inside your printer require maintenance or replacement. Contact your dealer." Both green and red lights are flashing. Is there something I can check before taking it for repairs? Is it even worth trying to get repaired? This error message occurred at the end of printing out a page, and I did notice the paper was arched up after printing,as the leading edge had been blocked by other paper at the feed-out location. The paper fed out completely, so there is no paper stuck in the printer. Thanks for your help.

 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (12/20/04 10:22 AM) | +1 + / - | Anonymous...JUST SO YOU WILL KNOW: A Service Error where you get a message telling you that "Parts inside your printer at the end of their service life, contact your dealer for replacement", or "Parts inside your printer require maintenance or replacement, call your service company", is normally a Maintenance Request Error. The maintenance request error is actually a Waste Ink Ink Pad Error and usually your remedy is to replace the Waste Ink Pad/Pads with a new one/ones and then reset the Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter. If you just reset the counter and don't replace the pads, then your printers old pads will eventually overflow and normally start leaking ink out the bottom of your printer. You can see "Exploded Parts Diagrams" of most Epson Ink Jet Printers and can also check on possible parts ordering, by Compass Micro Inc, at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm . Some people actually wash the ink out of the old pads, by holding them under running cold water, then dry them out and simply reinstall them back into their printer. The choice on what to actually do, is yours to make. I would at least recommend getting that Waste Ink Counter reset procedure and performing it first, to make sure your printer will then work...There is an "Epson Stylus C60 Printer Information Page", that also includes the C44 series, that you can view at http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/C60.html . It does have a section on the left side you can click-on, titled WASTE INK PAD SERVICING and also a section titled HOUSING REMOVAL, that will be of some help to you, if you want to try the needed servicing. However, you will still need to go on-line and buy and download the actual Reset Procedure, to clear the actual Service Error Condition. You can also find most Service Adjustment Programs/Resets from 2manuals.com, at http://www.2manuals.com/index.php?cPath=1_56_50 ...THIS ADDITIONAL INFO MIGHT ALSO BE OF SOME HELP: Tim H 12/10/2003 2:46:24 Subject: Epson Reset Program Download Location. after a long search for a reset program for waste ink, without paying, i found it. goto: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/sscserve.exe . please check that your printer is compatible goto: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html . this program has other features as well...Unfortunatly, that "SSC Service Utility" does not work on all Epson Printers and not on all Operating Systems and sometimes will not even work on actually listed printer models, so you will have to check it out for yourself. Just in case that source does not work: You may actually need to go on-line to try and locate a "SERVICE MANUAL" and also the actual "RESET PROCEDURE", to buy and download for reference in disassembly, troubleshooting and servicing. I have not checked, but you can normally find Service Manuals & Reset Procedures for most Epson Printers, from 2manuals.com, at http://www.2manuals.com/index.php?cPath=2_18 . Most Service Manuals can usually be downloaded for around $10 [ /-]. The reset Procedure is usually available from the same source and is also around $10.00 [ /-]...Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: epson printer problems by BigJohn (1/13/05 1:38 PM) | + / - | My Epson C82 died a few days ago. I tried running the cleaning head to no avail. I spent $70+ in ink to replace all the carts. Then no ink printing at all. Found this site and this e-mail chain. I then pulled the top (power unplugged) on my machine and moved the head machine over to the left by moving that little black bar at the bottom left. I then located the hose everyone mentioned and yes it was disconnected. I tried with one pair of needle nose pliers to no avail. It does take two pair. Re-connected the hose. While the lid was still off the machine I re-started it to see if it did the default test pattern. No black ink...did get the others just not black. Turned the machine OFF and re-unplugged. Noticed the front clear tube that connects to a black hose that goes back under the machine looked clogged. I ran a pipe cleaner in it about 6-7" and re-connected hose. I again ran the test pattern and TA DA!!! Black ink!!!. Thanks to all who have added to this thread.

Noticed last few days every third/fourth line in Black not 'clean' ('miss' ran horizontally every letter about 3/4 to letter botton). Tried extensive cleaning; no success.Nozzle pattern showed only outside of black but complete color pattern. Installed new Black and Color cartridges. Now NO black print, period! Made extensive use of nozzle clean; still no pattern print for Black - great/complete for Color.(Epson says take it to repair - closest 50 miles). How can I introduce head cleaner solvent (saw availability this site) into printer to clean out the path from black cartridge to print heads as Black is only affected portion? (Or any other solution that will get us back in operation?). Thanks

 | Re: epson printer problems by embillma (1/14/05 12:14 PM) | +1 + / - | Took the SSC Svc Utility (link provided above by Denny Conway) and using the black-only heavy cleaning I now can print - same as before the loss, but printing. Need help to resolve the poor quality being seen: - Horizontally across the length of every 4th line (include text and para spacing) there is a lack of ink causing a white 'line' 2/3 down each character. Result is hyphens and "e's" that appear as equal signs. Looking for suggested fix.
Also found FREE service manual site (at least for the 600). The link is: http://www.wimtv.be/techniforum/files/smstc600.pdf
Did a 'Epson Stylus Color 600 Service Manual' Google search and the return is in english (site is from Belgium).

Just rechecked the links in Denny's helpful message and did not find a link that gives me a free 600 manual. The link about the C60 doesn't cover mine and www.2manual.... charges. I didn't see any other unless I failed to go back up the thread a sufficient distance. BTW the manual I found is in english. Thanks for jumping in.

 | Re: epson printer problems by Confused (2/15/05 8:16 PM) | + / - | My Espon Stylus C80 decided to take on a task of its own today. It just started taking in paper and printing these odd patterns. Just tons of random little characters but only four lines down one page then 7 or 8 lines down the other page. And it was feeding paper through the printer like a mad thing. I'm not sure what to make of this or what could possibly be causing it. I tried turing it off then just restarting the printer and it did the same exact thing as soon as I tried to print a document from Microsoft Word. Any Ideas on what to do?

 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (2/16/05 9:48 AM) | + / - | Confused: When a printer prints "jibberish" [random symbols and characters], or has communication problems, its usually caused by: #1 a bad/failing parallel printer cable. It can be caused by an old worn cable, or a poor quality cable [not bi-directional printer cable, or not an IEEE-1284 rated cable], or simply a loose connection on either end of your present cable [be sure cable is securely connected on both ends]. Inexpensive parallel cables are not usually shielded enough and are not always bi-directional. TECH NOTE: If you are using a USB CABLE, you will usually you have less communication problems caused by a bad or corrupted USB cable, but its possible. #2 bad/corrupted printer drivers: printer drivers are usually available online from EPSON at no charge; remove/de-install your old printer drivers and then go online and download the newest drivers available for your printer. If you use your old CD that came with your printer, then you are not getting the latest changes/updates available free from Epson Company...Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: epson printer problems by mrmonteith (2/26/05 10:10 AM) | -1 + / - | I have an Epson C-82. I thought it would save me money by going to sperate color cartridges. Well it worked great and had it a little over a year. Then it stopped printing yellow. I ended up cleaning the printhead. Now it doesn't print anything at all. Fresh cartridges and all so it's not that. So far for the amount of money spent trying to clear it up I could have had enough money for half of another printer.
I'd like to get it back to printing but I'm not going to invest another dime.
I used to be certified on all types of printers. The one huge problem I see is with the newer printers they made it so that only people with the right hardware, manuals, and all can work on them. It's not until people like here help others that it at least breaks some of the pain. But I'm severely disappointed at Epson. You would think they would want people to keep buying their printers. But if I don't get this fixed and soon I guarantee that when people ask me for what type of printer to get, which many people know I work on hardware, I will NOT be telling to get Epson at ALL.
The manufacturers need to own up to helping out the customers to resolve their problems without having to send them into Epson or spend countless dolars fixing them. This is a clear lack of forethought on the design and afterthought on helping their customers. If they really wanted to keep people coming back they would make the information available to do whatever people were capable of to resolve their problem.
Does anyone have the manual for the c-82 in electronic format or can give me a quick run-down of getting it back to printing.
I was going to remove the tube and clean it but the one end comes off fine but the other goes down and around where it does the charging and looks to be a pain to get completely loose. I guess I can if that's having anything to do at all why it's not printing.
I'm only assuming really that the problem should be in the printhead assembly. Since I cleaned the printhead I assume it's just not getting ink down in it.
Any information to get me moving again would be greatly appreciated.

 | Re: epson printer problems by embillma (2/26/05 10:52 AM) | + / - | Follow-on to my 1/14 post. Current print problem has settled on a horizontal 'miss' each 8 mm from top to bottom of a page.(Printed a document with borders and was able to measure the spacing of the 'misses'). Have continued to run the SSC Utility for nozzle cleaning without any improvement. Epson says 'take it to a factory-authorized repair'. Any other suggestions here??? Thanks

 | Re: Re: epson printer problems by Anonymous (2/26/05 7:06 PM) | + / - | Michael, I had the same trouble with my carts in my C82. Take the hose loose from where it just starts to vanish under the printer body. Now take a pipe cleaner and run it through that tube as far as you can get it to go. I only managed about 6 or 7" down that tube before no further movement. Re-connect the tube and run the test pattern without hooking it up to the computer*. That should have fixed it. I got several dried up chunks of ink out of that tube that looked like coal dust. *Hold the paper feed button down and click on the power to the printer. When the light starts flashing on the power button let go of the paper feed button. A test pattern should print to let you see if you were successful in the fix. Good luck and remember to unplug the printer before taking off the cover! Note: a power cord is attached to the power button and to the base of the printer inside. You will not be able to take the cover all the way off on the right side without disconnecting that cord. BigJohn

 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (2/28/05 10:34 AM) | + / - | Michael...Just to let you know: There is a free download of an "Epson Stylus Color C82 Service Manual", from fixyourownprinter.com, at http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/reference/manuals/public/epson . That manual may be of some use to you, in trying to troubleshoot your printers problem....There have been a lot of strange problems reported on several of the newer ink jet printers, including your "C82" model. If you were to do a search on this Printer Repair Site [under your Epson C82 Printer], you would see that you are not alone in your problem. I've read several posted messages on this Printer Repair Site on just that particular problem, or at least very simular problems. I recommend that you do a general search on the "fixyourownprinter.com" printer repair site, under your C82 printer and then you can read about other peoples experiences, their advise and even what they have tried, sometimes successfully. It seems like most of the problems are not actually related to clogging, or even a bad or empty ink cartridge, but is usually more of a hardware/parts failure...Unfortunatly, its turned into a disposable world anymore, even if we don't agree with it or like it. People want and buy inexpensive ink jet printers from almost ALL MANUFACTORS, at a tremendous rate. The small inexpensive ink jet printer, is basically reguarded as being more or less disposable in the Printer World, especially anything under $100. Unfortunatly, its also starting to look like most printers under $150 are getting to be more or less disposable, as well. Think about it, you can usually buy a new printer cheaper than you can have your old printer repaired for, or at least close to the price. Today you can almost but a new inexpensive printer, cheaper than you can replace the manufactors ink cartridges for. People just don't want to pay for quality anymore and buy those basically disposable printers by the thousands. So most of the printer manufactors produce the cheap small ink jet printers, just to get in on all those thousands of printer sales. To keep those prices so low, quality is sacrificed and options are given up. Thats one of the reasons some new printers only have a 90 day warranty and it sometimes seems like they are lucky to last that long. Printers were more expensive just a few years ago, but they were also built better and seemed to last longer. It seems like as the prices started to come down, so did the quality. I know we get what we pay for, but it's still a shame...Denny Conway

 | Re: epson printer problems by Bobster (3/3/05 5:40 AM) | + / - | I have a Epsom Stylus R300 Photo, It has now decided to print in Green all the time. I have done Head Cleaning and Nozzle Check na number of times but that does'nt seem to have done the trick. Anybody know what the problem is? Thanx in advance Bob

 | Re: epson printer problems by Denny Conway (3/3/05 9:19 AM) | + / - | | Bobster: I'm sorry, but I cannot really be of any help to you. Most Epson Authorized Service Dealers are not actually trained on the newer "C", "CX" or "R" models. Most of the "CX" & "R" models are so new that I have not even seen one that was not actually under warranty still. Epson Company does not even allow their dealers to work on most of the "C", "CX" or "R" models under warranty. They simply send a Replacement Printer in exchange for the defective unit thats under warranty and the defective printer is then sent back to Epson...The only thing I can suggest is to run a "Nozzle Test" and see if the black and magenta inks are actually printing, or not. I'm guessing that the yellow & cyan [blue] inks are the only nozzles actually printing, because combining those two colors produces that green color. If the black & magenta are not actually showing up on that nozzle test pattern, then either you have a failing printhead assembly, or a possibly clogged printhead assembly. If your printer is actually new and still under its origional Factory Warranty, then there's no charge to talk to the "Epson Technical Support Department". That way you are talking directly with a technician, that is actually trained by Epson Company on your particular printer. To see available phone numbers for technical support and replacement parts ordering, go on-line to Epson @ " http://www.epson.com ", or call the Epson Automated Support Locator @ 1-800-442-2110 [press 1, then 1 & following prompts]. If your printer is out of warranty, you will need a credit card, before the technicians can help you, because there is a charge for technical support over the phone. If they cannot actually help you, then you can call the Epson Connection, at 1-562-276-1300 and file an actual warranty claim...If out of warranty, then you might want to try using the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution, available through fixyourownprinter.com, at http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kits/epson , but it will only help, if there is an actual clogged printhead assembly. When that link opens, click-on "Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution" thats listed for your particular printer. The Epson solution sells for around .00 plus shipping. It's possible that you may even have an actual hardware/parts problem [failing |
