 | clogged Epson CX5200 by john kyrk (10/19/04 10:10 AM) | + / - | In just two weeks of non-use, my Epson CX5200 is completely clogged. There is NO SPONGE PAD in this machine, so how do I apply the cleaner? Your cleaner has worked great for other Epson models I have.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Denny Conway (10/19/04 10:30 AM) | + / - | John: I don't work for "fixyourownprinter.com", but do try to help out on the Epson Printers when I can. Most people simply use the syringe and Epson Cleaning Solution and slowly inject it directly into the plastic stem, that punctures the ink cartridge when its installed into the Print Cartridge Holder Assembly. It's also possible that you may even have an actual HARDWARE/PARTS PROBLEM [such as a failing Printhead Assembly or Cleaning Station Assembly], but normally the most common problem is clogging of the Printhead Nozzles. JUST REMEMBER: The "nozzles" inside the printhead assembly can be easily damaged by using to much force on the plunger of the syringe. Damage can even occur when you are using the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution method, if you actually try to force the fluid thru the nozzle. To much force/pressure can damage the little tubes inside the Nozzle Assembly and then it will never work again. One individual printhead nozzle is so tiny, that it will not accept a human hair. You can see why they can get clogged so easily, or even why the nozzles can be so easily damaged. The correct method is to use the syringe to add the fluid into the nozzle and then leave the fluids set inside the nozzle for a day or two, to try and dissolve a possible bad clog. Sometimes you might have to use the fluids several times to be able to dissolve the clog in the printhead nozzles. Sometimes the clog will never dissolve, or it actually damages the nozzles. The longer the clog has been in, the worse it is to remove. If the cleaning fluids don't actually help, then its possible that your printer may actually have a different type of hardware related problem. HERES SOME PREVIOUSLY POSTED INFO BY WES: 7/11/2004 14:19:40 Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems. The most common problem found with the CX5200 is the tubing on the cap assembly becomes disconnected. The cap assembly can't clean the print head if the tube is detached. The print head face may also need to be cleaned as well as the print head itself. For info try these two links http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/Printhead.html http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/phface.html . And for more info on trouble shooting the CX5200 try this link http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/CX5200TS1.html and for disassembly info try here http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/CX52001.html . | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by john kyrk (10/21/04 11:14 AM) | + / - | I have soaked this printer with cleaning solution for the past two days. This morning I had to put in a new black cartridge to continue. Now absolutely nothing prints. I read several references to a class action suit against Epson. Is there really such a suit, and how can I join?
|
 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Denny Conway (10/21/04 11:40 AM) | + / - | John: My guess is that your printer probably has an actual Hardware/Part Failure, such as a possible hose off, under the Pump Assy/Cleaning Station Assy. Refer to the previously posted info, from other people that I e-mailed to you...Just to let you know: I know of no actual Class Action Suit thats actually been filed against Epson Company...Denny Conway

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Luan (10/24/04 7:32 PM) | + / - | Denny, do you have the section of Print Head Adjustment (Chapter 5) after disassembling the print head, please post or email me. Thanks.
|
 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Denny Conway (10/25/04 10:38 AM) | + / - | Luan: I'm sorry, but even if I did have it available, as an "Epson Authorized Service Dealer", I cannot legally release that information. I would recommend that you go to the "Compass Micro Inc" web-site, at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm and check with them directly, to see if they have a Service Manual available yet for your printer. Several people have posted that they have manuals available for the newer printers, that are not actually available from other normal sources...Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by hey-ram (10/27/04 7:31 AM) | + / - | Guys, Need your expert advice here. My epson cx5200 is printing blank sheets. I replaced the old cartridges with new ones.. and did a bunch of Nozzle Chacks, Head Cleaning etc... Just results in blank sheets. Before I replaced with new cartridges, it used to work in Color Copy Mode only. The copy would be printed in magenta color only. Now even that has stopped. I am so frustrated and thinking of getting a new HP or Brother 210C machine!! Help Pleaze..

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Denny Conway (10/27/04 9:44 AM) | + / - | hey-ram: It's also possible that you may have a different problem, which unfortunatly seems to be quite common on the CX5200 printer. If you were to do a search on this Printer Repair Site, you would see that you are not alone in your problem. I've read several posted messages on this Printer Repair Site on just that particular problem and or very simular problems. I recommend that you do a general search on the "fixyourownprinter.com" printer repair site, under your CX5200 printer and then you can read about other peoples experiences, their advise and even what they have tried, sometimes successfully. It seems like most of the problems are not actually related to clogging, or even a bad or empty ink cartridge, but is usually more of a Hardware/Parts Failure, but no way for me to really know. It seems to happen most of the time, just by simply repacing the ink cartridges, as normal. I know this information does not really give you that much to go on, but I felt you should know about other peoples reports, just in case it happens to apply in your case. There is an "Epson CX5200 Disassembly Instruction Page", located at http://www.inkjetprinterhelp.us/cx52001.html and a "CX5200 Error/Troubleshooting Page", located at http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/cx5200TS1.html ,that may be of some help to you...Good Luck! | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by john kyrk (10/27/04 10:29 AM) | + / - | I give up. Denny, all the references you are giving out have nothing to do with CX5200 except the one about disassembly, which requires special tools etc. The other reports all deal with generic Epsons that have a sponge pad where the ink cartridges rest. There is NO sponge pad int the CX5200, which is why I wrote to this forum in the first place. It is apparently impossible to use the cleaining solution to any effect. At least it has done nothing for me.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by hey-ram (10/27/04 10:37 AM) | + / - | Hi Denny, Thanks for your suggestions. Called up Epson and spoke to the Tech Support. We went through head cleaning and nozzle check via the PC - 3 times. The pages were still blank. They will be sending a replacement printer cx5400. He wasnt sure what the problem could be... Just fyi- Also he told me that doing a head cleaning from the PC/software is much more intense then doing it from the menu panel on the printer. I am not sure how different they are.. but he seemed to say so!

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Denny Conway (10/27/04 11:04 AM) | + / - | John: I'm sorry, that we could not actually help you more. Unfortunatly, all most all Epson Service Dealers are not actually trained by Epson Company, on the newer models of ink jet printers. In fact Epson does not even allow their dealers to work on the newer printers that are under warranty. Epson simply replaces the failed warranty printer with a replacement printer...Actually, that cleaning solution works best when slowly and carefully injected with a syringe, directly into the plactic post that punctures the ink cartridge when it is installed. remember that to much force on the plunger of the syringe, can actually damage the printhead assy. When that solution is injected into that post, it enters the actual printhead nozzles where it can dissolve any possible clogs. Of course if there is actually a parts failure, which is the most common problem on the CX5200, then the solution will not have any effect. Even on the older printers that do have the sponge or felt type pad [called Cap Assembly], applying the solution onto that pad and parking the printhead assy over it, will only clean the outside area of the printhead nozzles. That will normally not dissolve most clogs, which are actually on inside of the printhead assembly, rather on the face of the nozzles...I'm also sorry, but there is not that much free information, that is available on the newer models of printers, that we can pass on to people with problems. Any actual Authorized Epson Service Dealer is limited legally by Epson company, to the information that we can release to the public, but I try to help as much as I can...Denny Conway

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Eddy (10/27/04 1:45 PM) | + / - | Have a look at this URL http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/c825.html It shows a Stylus C82 printer mechanism which is also the printer in your CX5200. In the figure 4-10 at the far right you will see a white rectangular 'sponge'. The sponge on your CX5200 will not be white because it has been discolored with ink. The proper name of the 'sponge' is cap assembly. This is where you would place a cleaning solution to soak the bottom of the print head.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by jon (11/6/04 3:35 PM) | + / - | I too own a CX5200 and a c80. The 5200 quit last week at about 18 months old. I have just finished with the syringe technique on the cyan post for a second time. All other colors are working well so far and the cyan is about 90 % clear. A couple of observations: I installed a brand new Epson cyan cartridge in my c80 a few days ago and received a message that the cartridge was almost empty and did I want to continue. I also installed a new cyan cartridge in my cx5200 today and received the same message. I purchase my ink from the same retailerfor both printers. The boxes used to be marked "Made in U.S.A." The new batch in marked "Made in Mexico." Wonder if there is any connection or just coincidental???

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Chroma (11/15/04 2:34 AM) | + / - | I thought I had a clogged nozzle after I changed the first cartridge and that color stopped printing. When I changed a second and third color and they stopped too, I knew it was hardware related. Following the advice here, I disassembled the printer to find the purge tube disconnected. I've put a small tie wrap on it to (hopefully) hold it more securely. It seems to be working fine now.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Edie (11/18/04 9:42 PM) | + / - | In my research to understand what's wrong with my CX5200 I came across this site. I've read all the messages posted and am afraid that my printer has all the symptoms you all have been describing. All the nozzel checks and head cleaning has gottem me no where in the past three days. I have lots of syringes (because of my illness, Crohn's) but where do I get cleaning solution? Help please. I'm a dinosoar and understand very little about how all this gear works. Any help is appreciated.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (11/23/04 3:02 PM) | + / - | My black ink cartridge just ran out and I replaced it but now it won't print black. I suspect the head is clogged but after running it through the head cleaning process several times it shows that the cartridge is down to 80%. Does anyone know where the ink went?

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Denny Conway (11/23/04 3:27 PM) | + / - | Edie: Be sure you read the other messages & replies on this message board. The most common problem with the "CX5200" is not actually printhead clogging, but usually an actual Hardware/Parts failure, like the problem found by CHROMA, in the posting just above yours. It seems to happen most of the time, just by simply repacing the ink cartridges, as normal. I know this information does not really give you that much to go on, but I felt you should know about other peoples reports, just in case it happens to apply in your case. There is an "Epson CX5200 Disassembly Instruction Page", located at http://www.inkjetprinterhelp.us/cx52001.html and a "CX5200 Error/Troubleshooting Page", located at http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/cx5200TS1.html ,that may be of some help to you. Also heck for an e-mail from me, with some previously posted info, that may also be of some use to you...IF YOU DECIDE TO, TRY THE "EPSON STYLUS HEAD CLEANING SOLUTION", JUST REMEMBER: The "nozzles" inside the printhead assembly can be easily damaged by using to much force on the plunger of the syringe. Again, if the cleaning fluids don't help, then its generally time to invest in a new printer. In some more expensive printers, you may want to get an estimate to replace the printhead assembly, but as a general rule, its not really economical to do in the smaller Epson Ink Jet style printers. You can generally buy a new small printer cheaper than you can have your old one repaired for. EXAMPLE: The printhead assembly in the "C80" Printer sells for around $120 to $130. There is a REVIEW of the Printhead Cleaning Solution kit, available to view at http://www.inkjetprinterhelp.us/EKR.html ...Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (12/9/04 11:29 AM) | + / - | I help members of our computer group with their computer/printer problems. I have worked on an Epson C82, C80 and CX5200, soaking and cleaning the print heads and still was unable to get them to work. After reading Chroma's message I checked for loose tubes on the CX5200, found one and reconnected it and got the printer to print. Then I looked at the C82 and found the same loose tubing. The C80 has a different style print head but I suspect I'll find the same tubing loose on that also.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Diane (12/12/04 4:46 PM) | + / - | My CX5200 was doing the very same thing. Even though my warrantee was expired, I called Epson's support line. When I explained what was happening (and after trying to clean the heads), the tech guy happily told me that my replacement printer would be arriving in 3 to 5 days. I about fell off of my chair. Yup, exactly three days later, I received a CX 5400. I simply placed the old unit in the box, added the prepaid UPS sticker, and shipped it back. The 5400 is a bit faster and quieter than the 5200 and apparently does not have the same problem with the heads getting damaged when replacing ink cartridges. I'm happy!

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Unhappy in Michi (12/16/04 7:54 AM) | + / - | Same problem as the others -- replaced ink (to the tune of $77) and now nothing. There was a link for one of the tech tips at Compass Micro that dealt with the clogged tube issue. Apparently Compass Micro has removed it from their website. Does anyone have a copy of it? Also, Diane, what were the "magic words" you used to get Epson to send you a replacement?
|
 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by HWY (12/16/04 10:22 AM) | + / - | Dear Unhappy in Michigan, Honestly, I don't think I used any magic words. My "sense" was that mine was not the first call regarding this particular issue with the 5200 and the company was doing their best to keep customers by simply replacing the defective printers. Did you call and not get the same response as I did? If you haven't called, I would definitely do it. Diane

I pulled everything in my (Goodwill $20.00 cx5200--gee I thought that was a good deal at the time..) down to the head itself and practiced squirting photo cleaning fluid everything through the "deliver pipes" which sure made a difference.. even did the same thing to my c80 which doesn't produce yellow anymore... however.. the head in the c80 hasn't changed a bit... and the cx5200... well... everytime I try to run it... it now doesn't just print blank pages... it turns itself off about 10 seconds into any function it tries to do... Can anyone help me diagnose what I did wrong inside to make the thing turn itself off I would be GREATLY appreciative...

I certainly hope this one is a little better.

 | Clogged Epson CX5200 by Gene (1/7/05 2:01 PM) | + / - | My CX5200 stopped printing after installing new print cartrigdges. I have had this all-in-one printer for almost 2 years and it has worked great, so I was surprised when it stopped printing.
After reading Diane's post and some of the others, I decided to call Epson. They offered to repair my printer or make me a deal on a CX5400. After checking retail on the CX5400, I choose to have my old printer repaired at no charge.
I gotta say, Epson came through ... at least I wasn't stuck with a dead printer. Give them a call if you are having this problem with the CX5200.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Gary (2/11/05 3:58 PM) | + / - | My CX5200 was purchased in June of 2003, so it was quite out of warranty. No black and magenta would print out, and cyan and yellow was spotty, even after changing Epson brand carts, and multiple head cleanings.
I called the US Epson Service line: (562)276-4382 Hours: Mon.- Fri. 6AM-6PM (PT) Since it was out of warranty, I had to pay $9.95 on my charge card to get to talk with a human, who had me clean 2 more times, pull out each cart, cover the spout with a piece of paper and shake it for 10 seconds, and put them back in, and then head clean once more.
None of this changed the nozzle check, so he then gave me a Reference number, and transferred me to the Customer Satisfaction group.
She offered me 3 choices: 1) a $40 off coupon code for any purchase on their website. 2) a discount price on 3 different printers: - CX4600 for $90 - $30 rebate = $60 - CX6600 for $160 - $50 rebate = $110 - RX500 for $190 - $50 rebate = $140 3) Free repair and shipping of my printer (they send you a UPS label by mail, you pack and call UPS, they repair in 7 - 10 days, and send it back).
Since I could find the RX500 at Sam's Club for $149 without a mail in rebate, I figured that wasn't much of a deal.
I opted for the free repair.
And I went and bought a Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer at Staples for $149 so that I have a daily use B&W printer.

 | Re: Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (2/12/05 4:04 PM) | + / - | Good choice, Gary. I was pleasantly surprised when I received a new printer (CX5400 refurbished) after I shipped mine in for the "free repair". It certainly looks brand new, anyway.
I did buy a Samsung Laser for my daily printing. I'm not sure what I'll do with the "new" Epson. I'll either keep it for color copying & scanning or sell it. I'm okay on the deal.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by marcus (2/15/05 2:21 PM) | + / - | Hi All
I have had my CX5200 for (you've guessed it) just over a year, and its been great, good prints and scanning. I don't use the printer a lot, maybe once or twice a week. I had noticed that my ink was getting low so. I purchased two sets of inks (genuine epson) I changed the cartridges yesterday and now it won't print yellow or cyan. I have cleaned the heads lots of times and run the nozzle check, with no joy.
i would be grateful if someone can help, or offer advice. I live in the UK so if anybody knows how to get an answer on this problem from epson UK or how to get the trading standards involved, as looking at this forum there is obviously a problem with this model of printer
many thanks in advance

The trick, I think, is to coat the outside (ONLY THE OUTSIDE) with threadlock compound afterwards. This should keep the piece in place for the future. Maybe someone could clue EPSON in on this...
This solution has not yet stood the test of time; let me know if your results vary! Threadlock may attack some plastics.
I used Loctite 242 #24206 (Methacrylic Ester) to bond the exterior of the connection from the black tube to the clear tube and in between. I did NOT use any inside any of the hoses. I cleaned the hoses with simple green prior to bonding them. (inside and out)
This repair (disassembly and reassembly) is for intermediate experience; there are several critical connections which are difficult to re-seat and align properly. Read the above referenced instructions CAREFULLY.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Denny Conway (2/28/05 9:47 AM) | + / - | Anonymous: There have been lots of strange things going wrong with the "CX5200" model and most of them have been actual hardware/parts related problems. The good news is that if your printer is actually new [3 months old] and still under its origional Factory Warranty, then there's no charge to talk to the "Epson Technical Support Department". That way you are talking directly with a technician, that is actually trained by Epson Company on your particular printer. To see available phone numbers for technical support and replacement parts ordering, go on-line to Epson @ " http://www.epson.com ", or call the Epson Automated Support Locator @ 1-800-442-2110 [press 1, then 1 & following prompts]. If your printer is out of warranty, you will need a credit card, before the technicians can help you, because there is a charge for technical support over the phone...If they are unable to actually help you over the phone and your printer is under warranty, then you can call the "Epson Connection", at 1-562-276-1300 and file a Warranty Claim. Epson normally offers a WHOLE UNIT EXCHANGE on most ink jet style printers that fail under warranty, but you may need to provide "Proof Of Purchase" [origional sales receipt or invoice] to complete that warranty claim. You also need to know that a Whole Unit Exchange is where Epson will send you a replacement printer, in exchange for your defective warranty printer. That replacement printer is usually not an actual new printer. It may be another printer that also failed under warranty and was also returned to Epson Company. Returned warranty printers, then go thru the Epson Repair Facility, where they are repaired. Then they may be used as a replacement printer, for any other printers of the same model that may also fail under warranty...Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Denny Conway (3/2/05 2:10 PM) | + / - | Anonymous: Generally speaking, if its an actual hardware/parts related failure, I tell my customers that its usually time to buy another printer. Unless of course, its something that you can correct yourself. I think that you would at least have to do some disassembly and probably remove the Top Cover Assembly, just to try and determine what actually went wrong. There is an "Epson CX5200 Disassembly Instruction Page", available to view at http://www.inkjetprinterhelp.us/cx52001.html , that may be of some help. Epson Company does not even allow their dealers to work on those models under warranty. They simply send a Replacement Printer in exchange for the defective unit thats under warranty and the defective printer is then sent back to Epson. If your printer is actually new and still under its origional Factory Warranty, then there's no charge to talk to the "Epson Technical Support Department". | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Denny Conway (3/15/05 3:09 PM) | + / - | Anonymous: You're welcome and I'm sorry that I could not actually help you...You're basically right about the newer lines of printers. Unfortunatly, its turned into a disposable world anymore, even if we don't agree with it or like it. People want and buy inexpensive ink jet printers from almost ALL MANUFACTORS, at a tremendous rate. The small inexpensive ink jet printer, is basically reguarded as being more or less disposable in the Printer World, especially anything under $100. Unfortunatly, its also starting to look like most printers under $150 are getting to be more or less disposable, as well. Think about it, you can usually buy a new printer cheaper than you can have your old printer repaired for, or at least close to the price. Today you can almost but a new inexpensive printer, cheaper than you can replace the manufactors ink cartridges for. People just don't want to pay for quality anymore and buy those basically disposable printers by the thousands. So most of the printer manufactors produce the cheap small ink jet printers, just to get in on all those thousands of printer sales. To keep those prices so low, quality is sacrificed and options are given up. Thats one of the reasons some new printers only have a 90 day warranty and it sometimes seems like they are lucky to last that long. Printers were more expensive just a few years ago, but they were also built better and seemed to last longer. It seems like as the selling prices started to come down, so did the quality. I know we get what we pay for, but it's still a shame...Denny Conway

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Gary (3/22/05 8:27 PM) | + / - | Hey! I'm the Gary who posted on 2/11/05 above.
It took them over 2 weeks to send me out a return authorization and label, but it finally came. I shipped back the CX5200 to Epson on 3/4/05, and today I got a new (or refurb, can't tell) CX6600, complete with new ink carts - the Black ink is even the Extra Capacity one.
Note that this takes all different carts, so I guess I gotta sell my unopened CX5200 carts on eBay...
Anyhow, this printer seems to be doing fine so far, and is an nice upgrade to the CX5200.
My total cost out-of-pocket was $25: $9.95 for Epson to take my call (since my printer was like 8 months out of warranty), and $15 to package the printer to ship back (I had thrown out the box at Christmas). Epson paid return shipping with a UPS pickup label.
So far, so good! I'm happy with the outcome.
P.S. I've been quite happy with the Brother laser printer, too! Can't beat it for B&W printouts!

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by rgoettler (3/26/05 8:36 PM) | + / - | I'm happy to hear that several of you were able to get replacements from Epson for the clogged CX5200, even with an expired warrantee. I got mine at a thrift store and don't have an original purchase receipt. I would like to contact EPSON to see if they might offer free repair or rebate on a future purchase. Was an original receipt necessary in your transactions with EPSON even if your printer was out-of-warrantee? If yes, then I'm afraid I may be out of luck. Many thanks for your response!

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by hchmeyer (4/25/05 9:33 PM) | + / - | I bought a CX5200 and was so happy with it, I bought a CX5400 when I caught one on sale. It died in about 8 months, color 'banding' that would not go away after multiple head cleanings, etc. Epson offered to replace it under warranty. They sent me 3 refurbished units until I got one that did not have the banding problem. 4 months have gone by, so far the refurb. is still working ok. My original CX5200 has stopped printing altogether - now about 18 months old, head cleaning does nothing, tried cleaning solution, nothing - color or black. Hose was disconnected, reconnecting it had no effect. My antique HP855 has printed probably about 20,000 pages in black - color is finicky if I don't use it regularly, I use it mostly for black. It's a bit noisy, but a workhorse. Very large ink (HP45). Guess I need to contact Epson to see what deal they will offer on the CX5200. Have another $100 invested in ink cartridges to try to use up.

Here's a tip on how to get Epson to waive the $9.95 fee to talk to a technician. Try their on-line, troubleshooting site first. After answering the questions, click on the E-MAIL TECHNICIAN link. Compose an e-mail explaining the problem. They'll send you a return e-mail with suggestions and at the end it will say to call their technicians at (562) 276-4382 M-F 6AM-6PM PT. At the end of the e-mail it will say, "Please note: The recording you hear will advise you of a $9.95 charge for technical support if your printer is no longer within its one year warranty period. When the representative comes on the line, please advise them that you have done the troubleshooting via email and were advised to call in for further assistance. You will not be charged the $9.95 for this call."

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Ecnerwal (5/30/05 7:49 AM) | + / - | I've recently "solved" a severely clogged (cleaning cycles had no immediate effect) CX5200 by simply printing nozzle checks every 8-12 hours for a week. Initally I also ran cleaning cycles, but given the ink consumption of that and the fact that it seemed to have no effect whatever, I stopped after the first day or two.
Starting from almost no color and half the black being out of service, things just gradually got better. After only a few days I got down to 4 clogged, then 3, stuck at 3 for a while, and finally got a perfect pattern after one week. Has stayed perfect for several days. Running the same number of checks in a shorter time does not seem to have any effect - sitting and softening for several hours between checks appears to be the important step in getting the nozzles to clear this way.
This offers a simple approach, and also suggests that running a nozzle check (which uses little ink) regularly is probably better than getting to the point of needing cleaning (which uses a lot of ink, for not much effect).

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Rstr310 (6/2/05 7:01 PM) | + / - | My CX5200 started to gradually show color banding right before the lousy thing stopped printing all together. Nothing but blank pages. I purchased the cleaning solution from this site and now its printing again BUT the banding is terrible. It kind of looks like you are looking thru blinds or scan lines on on TV, but multicolored. Is this a head alignment problem ? I tried to run that adjustment cycle but the test prints that it asked me to evaulate didnt make any sense to me. Can anyone lend some advice ?

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by mmalloian (7/23/05 11:13 PM) | + / - | Epson has a problem with the 5200 and the 5400. I originally bought the 5200 and it clogged up after 11 months of marginal use. Epson offered a replacement. I received another 5200 and it worked ok for six months and clogged up as well. Epson replaced it with a 5400 and it worked for 8 months then the Magenta clogged up. After 45 minute call with Epson tech support they offered to send a replacement although it was now out of warranty. Epson said they were doing me a favor and would not acknowledge that there is an ongoing problm with their models. I asked the tech how to prevent clogging and he said don't leave the printed on. I told him that was not the case and he said their printer is reliable and I must be doing somethting wrong. I see this is not the case as many customers have similar issues with their printers. I did get a refurbished 5400 and its working for now but i expect it to go down in a few months. I am not going to bother with buying Epson crap any more. I still have my Stylus 800 and it is 6 years old and works as good as new. I don't know why I got suckered into buying the cx model. I will try to avoid watching QVC when board.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by johnny_5 (8/9/05 2:42 PM) | + / - | My company bought a cx5200 a while ago and said they were having banding problems when trying to copy. I assumed the problem was a clogged printer head and went to work soaking it. I got it all cleaned out and it still wasn't printing anything. Well I started surfing and stumbled upon this posting. To make a long story short, it turns out the hose was unattached and I believe it had been for upwards of a year. I put it back on and let some cleaning solution soak into it, ran 10 or so cleaning cycles, and it still prints blank pages. I was thinking that maybe since the hose had been sitting so long it might be a clog in the black hose that goes to the pump. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by chimpanzee (8/20/05 3:38 AM) | + / - | I got a CS4600 all-in-one, & was using the B&W print. Worked OK. I wanted it mainly as a scanner.
A few months later, I did a B&W print..& there was all this BANDING "gaps". Soon, prints were just BLANK. Then, I tried the color printing. Looked OK. The next print started to show BANDING..then a subsequent print was BLANK.
Is this ink-clogging, or a disconnected tube (as documented by some users). I'm gonna disassemble this thing right now, to look for any disconnected tubes.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by SeanY (8/24/05 9:45 AM) | + / - | Hey everyone, This clog issue plagues Epsons. When you see that little hose off pop off the cap assembly, it's not because the printhead is blocked. The printheads usually never clog in these things, it's usually the waste ink removal system. Leaving the head soak is usually a waste of time. The cap assembly, the network of hosing which connects the cap to the pump, and the hosing which runs from the pump to the waste ink pads always clog. The inner diameter of the hoses vary in places, and with the archival properties of the ink, it clogs pretty quickly. The best bet is to tear the printer apart and make sure there isn't any clog at the end of the hose at the waste ink pads. These ink blockages, whether in the pump hosing, in the cap, or at the pads is 99% of the time the reason for that hose coming off. Simply reattaching the hose and "supergluing" or clamping it is not a good idea and is almost a waste of time. You have to remove all the blockage first. Then reattach. SeanY

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by TheresaW (9/17/05 12:39 PM) | + / - | This is unbelievable! I am yet another victim in this EPSON CX5200 scandal. The exact same thing happened to me as every other owner of this piece of crap. I got a few bands, replaced all ink cartridges to the tune of $70, yada, yada, yada...nothing but blank pages. The thing that pisses me off the most is we just had our city-wide bulky waste pickup last month so I have to hang onto this thing for another 11 months before I can literally toss it on the curb.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Jeff Roach (10/24/05 9:11 PM) | + / - | I am another owner of the Epson CX5200. Poor printing and clogged heads in spite of repeated head cleanings. I purposely selected Epson to handle my printing because I believed they had the best name for printers. Now - alas - (sigh), like many others feel this was a bad unit and a bad choice. The hassle to solve this problem is more than I intend to bear. I would like feedback on the following two questions:
1. Is it better to drop this model off a tall building and watch it crash into little pieces or better to drop this into water and watch the bubbles rise up as it sinks?
2. Your recommendation on a more reliable, dependable and easily serviced printer/copier/scanner unit that doesn't rape you to refill ink cartridges.
Thanks

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Tim in SLC (10/25/05 9:44 AM) | + / - | If you have more money than time, go ahead and buy an HP Multi-Function Printer. But, if you've decided to replace your clogged CX5200, then you shouldn't be afraid of trying to fix it. After all, what's the worse that could happen? If you break it, so what? You were going to replace it anyway! I fixed mine about six months ago and it's still working OK. Plus I was able to use up all of those new Epson ink cartridges I'd purchased.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 FIXED by Anonymous (12/12/05 12:56 PM) | + / - | Well over 2 years old now, my CX5200 decided to quit printing color last week. This happened after changing the cartridges as I regularly do when their almost completely empty... prior to that there were no problems. The printer sat for a few months of no use this summer with nearly empty cartridges so I assumed the print head was clogged. After multiple head cleanings and nozzle checks revealed no changes I stumbled on this forum.
Turns out my problem is not related to the print head but as usual... THE WASTE INK SYSTEM. Apparently the waste ink discharge has allot to do with the performance of the pump or the entire printer itself. I referred to this link for disassembly: http://www.inkjetprinterhelp.us/cx52001.html. This is how it went:
Remove top mounted Scanner unit Remove Front housing Remove Middle housing Remove C496 Main Board Remove Printer Mechanism
(I didn't have to touch the print head at all)
After removing the printer mechanism, i located the 2 discharge tubes that come from the bottom of the print head pad and lead into the mass of white sponges in the base of the printer housing (yes the tube below the print head was disconnected). I used a tweezers to gently squeeze out the almost dry ink that was inside the final tube that discharges the ink into the sponges and I cleaned up all the gummy waste ink under the sponges. Then I used a syringe and isopropyl alcohol and flushed both the first hose and the final discharge hose until both hoses were completely clear. I discharged the waste alcohol into an empty bottle. I used the smallest wire tie i could find to wrap around the the joint where the first tube meets the print head waste pad so that it did not disconnect again; it should not now that all lines are completely clear. I reassembled the printer but i broke one of the small hinge retainer clips on the clear plastic light conduction tube that holds the cover open lever that tells the printer when the printer top is open. A little super glue fixed that.
The first 2 nozzle checks showed all three colors but was very distorted. A head cleaning is not necessary but I did tell the printer I was changing the cartridges again so that it recharged the print head with ink after closing the printer top. The next nozzle check was then perfect... color is completely back. Now the printer is printing like it did on day one.
Head cleaning and ink charging only generates excess waste which has nowhere to go if the waste system has not been cleaned since original purchase. I recommend cleaning the waste system now every year and keeping head cleanings to a minimum.

Appears Espon has a cronic design issue. If I can't fix it myself I'm moving to HP. I have one at work that's 5 years old. No matter how long it sits it has no issues once I need it to print. Just very reliable...

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (1/3/06 1:54 PM) | + / - | The hose on my CX5200 disconnected some time ago. I got down in there and reconnected it. One trial run later and the hose popped off again. I discovered that the hose itself was clogged with old ink and cleaned the hose out. When I reconnected the hose, I "clamped" it in place with a piece of twist tie (plastic removed so it was just the wire) serving as a "hose clamp" of sorts. It's worked great ever since.

 | Re: Re: Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (2/18/06 4:26 AM) | + / - | I've had my 5200 for about 3 years i think - and it's been changed by Epson twice for reasons other than clogged heads. Yesterday everything clogged up - just blank paper. In desperation I changed all the cartridges, and swabbed the nozzly things underneath with methylated spirit. That improved things a bit so I repeated the process. I then found that the menu button wouldn't work at all (Just stuck on 1 copy Normal etc). I left it an hour or so, then did a scan and it worked beautifully! I also found that the menu button was working again - the meths must have dried out)> Now it's working fine. So it seems that dabbing the nozzly things with copious amounts of meths sorts it out

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by DannyB (4/20/06 6:41 PM) | + / - | Can someone with a CX5200 please tell me how you are accessing this busted hose that all the 5200 seem to have. I'm thinking this is exactly what happened to my printer and before I go Color Laser shopping, I'd like to give this a try. Please email me directly with directions. I called Epson and they won't send me a new unit/replacement as my old printer is out of warranty. They gave me 2 options: 1. Bring it to a service center where I'd have to pay for it to have it repaired. 2. Go to the secrete www.epson.com/loyalty site, log in with the loyalty password and buy a cheaper printer from them.
I'm going to do #2 if I can't fix it. I'm waiting on the $45 credit due to Epsons lawsuit then going to purchase a new printer with the $45 credit. Should be real cheap then. For those who don't know if you bought an Epson printer from 96-2004 you quality for a $45 check or $20/$25 credit from Epson. http://www.epsonsettlement.com/ Link to register for $45: http://www.epson.com

 | Re: Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (4/27/06 4:23 PM) | + / - | Epson replaced my first printer too, a C82, even though it was out of warrantee. I was very impressed at the time....They acted like they had never heard of this problem of putting in a new ink cartridge and not getting any more ink to print out of that color. They told me that they wanted to "investigate" the problem and to return to them the printer at no cost to myself. They immediately sent me a new C84 to replace it....It didn't work either....I sent it back and they sent me another new C84, which I have used for approximately 16 months and two days ago I replaced the black and yellow ink cartridges and they will not print anything at all anymore. I called Tech Support and all they did was tell me to clean the heads which I had already done numerous times. I had also just stocked up on a couple hundred dollars in Epson ink cartridges for my C84 because of the project that I was working on. Now I not only don't have a printer I'm out all that money for the Epson C84 ink cartridges just like all of the original C82 Epson cartridges I got stuck with after my first printer quit printing. Until I stumbled onto this website today I didn't know anything about problems with the Epson printers. Now, I'M REALLY MAD!!!!!!!!!!

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200/ I tried everything by Anonymous (5/7/06 12:29 AM) | + / - | I give up, I gotta figure out how to have my printer replaced like some of the other posters here. I may have to fill out a claim for that class action lawsuit that DannyB posted about (http://www.epsonsettlement.com/). My back is completely out after spending my whole Saturday troubleshooting my printer only to say... I'll never do that again, lol! I'm hoping that I spare some people from even trying, or if you want to give it a shot, I hope you find this helpful.
Here's a run-down of what I've done since this year if it's of any help to anyone:
- My printer doesn't print any ink. Over a period of months the ink would get lighter and ligher, until a few months ago when there was no ink. Purchased new ink, still got worse.
- On and off I attempted troubleshooting with nozzle checks and head cleanings; nothing worked. Last week used EPSON's online troubleshooting; didn't work but gave me their # for tech support (562-276-4382).
- Called few days later; I avoided $9.95 charge by telling them I did the nozzle checks, online troubleshooting, and bought new ink. Was referred to nearby tech center (which would charge $20 diagnostics & $60 labor--over the phone they believed that the purging was clogged & needed flush), and I was given the EPSON loyalty website with a passcode for discount on products.
- Found this website today (very helpful); figured out what the print head was (with the guide of the posted manual) and successfully took it out. As suggested on another site, I cleaned with rubbing alcohol; put drops on each nozzle to clean; disassembled the print head, turned nozzles upside down to squeeze alcohol through the bottom (better results); cleaned gunk on bottom of print head around silver frame. Assembled, still no ink printing. Pic of top half of disassembled print head turned upside down on napkin to allow ink to drip out: [http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f270/sweety-b/pic1.jpg] Top half turned right-side up: [http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f270/sweety-b/pic2.jpg] Bottom half of print head (gunky underneath): [http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f270/sweety-b/pic3.jpg]
- Read some more & followed "Epson CX5200 FIXED" post. Took more or less 6 hours to carefully disassemble my printer step by step (I had never done that b/4). Found the ink tube!! Was very clogged with LOTS of gunk. Gunk was caked all over the bottom of the printer and the waste pads; cleaned out w/kitchen spray cleaner & paper towels.
- 1st tube was easier to clean, I used a "king size" eye dropper (for measuring my hair oil products) to inject alcohol and water to get gobs and gobs of gunk out. 2nd tube was harder because it wouldn't come out; had to clean while in the printer. PROBLEM: yanked tube back and forth too much and it snapped!!! SOLUTION: micky-moused it and slid end of one piece over the other. Ended up having to take apart the piece the tube was fed through to put the tube back (something I didn't want to do in the first place, that's why I was tugging the tube). Cleaning the tubes & putting torn tube back together took about 2 hours by itself. My sink looks like black tie dye right now.
- FINALE: Put printer back together, turned on, put ink back in, nozzle checks... STILL NO INK :( :(
- TOOLS & SUPPLIES: wire hanger, safety pin, a long Phillips head screw driver (to get those deep-set screws), 70% rubbing alcohol, tape (to tape screws next to location they came from so I remember), q-tips, toothpicks, vasaline, huge eye dropper, paper towels, newspaper

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (5/7/06 4:43 PM) | + / - | Absolutely brilliant! Why is it that everyone thinks that alcohol has any effect at all in dissolving ink? It doesn't. The 30% water has more of an effect on the ink. That's what you get for going to some other lame site instead of following the good advice here or at http://inkjetprinterhelp.us Or you could have gotten the head cleaning solution sold on this site. Your advice is pretty much useless. Hope nobody actually follows it.

 | Re: Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (6/3/06 11:22 AM) | + / - | the passcode and password are two different things. The passcode is what the rep would have given you and the password is somthing that you have to make up yourself that would have to be 6 letters or more.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Daila (6/20/06 4:33 PM) | + / - | My CX5200 is three years old. Epson offered to send me a pre-printed shipping label to send my Epson printer to them for repair. Absolutely free. No $9.95 cost or anything. He said entire thing should take about 10 - 14 days. We will see.

 | Re: Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (6/22/06 8:42 PM) | + / - | I kept badgering Epson until I got to customer support, after explaining that even 6 months after the warrenty expired I think they should warranty a known defect in thier printer, after a few clicks on the computer he said, sir that will be no problem and send me a fedex sticker and off it went for free factory repair, I heard that other folks say they had gotten 6600's back, I don't care, if they fix it I will be happy, to summize, go through tech support, you can email them back and forth, let them know that you already tried everything normal, lots of nozzel checks, several head cleanings (say 10), that you are using genuine epson carts, (even if your not, wink, wink), and keep expressing that you are not happy and feel they should fix your printer with a known defect, eventually they will refer you to customer service who will look up your case and hopefully fix your printer.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Joetoken (6/22/06 8:47 PM) | + / - | Oh, they offered me loyalty thing too, I said why would I give you more money for anther printer when the last one only lasted me a year and a half, this seemed to make sense to them. You can actually find the same printers cheaper on the net anyway, it just a little something to make you feel better about your defective printer they sold you. I told them I would likely never buy an epson printer again, which is true.

 | Re: missing spring under the spong pad by mikepb69 (6/30/06 1:14 PM) | + / - | Hello, I do have a CX500 I purchaed from the Veternes Thrift store in West Palm Beach, FL for a fair market price Used.
After I purchased the new carterages at Costco and installed them to find the unit not printing in Black or Color. I then contacted epson support and was told to clean head seven times and then print a page. With that advise..... I did tru it and still blanck pages. The tech Suport did give me a local telephone number to call in my area. I did contact this local Auth. repair and talked with a person named John. He told me that this problem was that the hose was disconnected. I needed to move the spong pad assembly to the right and the hose was standing thier. I will state, this is not a great repair, to re attach the hose. First I found that the spring that attaches to the spong pad assemble is difficault nor can I reatcah it so as you could think I did try and screwed up the spring. so now I need this spring to get the unit runing. could you please assist me????

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by moishe (6/30/06 2:10 PM) | + / - | just wanted to reiterate that epson is still doing the free repair program - don't let them appease you with their stupid loyalty program and don't believe epson tech support when they say that the program has been discontinued. if you're persistent, they'll repair your malfunctioning machine for free (mine is the cx5400) - just make sure you talk to Customer Relations after going through the motions with tech support. to call customer relations directly, the # is 562.276.4382.
thanks to all who have posted with advice.

 | Epson 5200/5400 staying unclogged by AlChat (7/7/06 1:01 PM) | + / - | I had an Epson 5200 that stopped printing (exactly as described here by others) after 11.5 months, fortunately I bought it from Costco and they gave me a full refund, which I used to buy an Epson 5400 and still had $100 left over. Epsons should be used regularly to keep the nozzles clear. One great tip is to turn it off overnight, because it does a short cleaning cycle when you turn it on. Another tip is to print at least one photograph per week, because that uses all the nozzles. My late lamented 5200 was only used with pure Epson ink in the misguided belief that that would extend its life(!) so when I got the 5400 I felt free to use other ink and settled on InkMagic.com in Calgary, whose ink prints beautifully and is a fraction of the price of Epson's (or even the no-name kind from Staples). I examined the printing from both inks under a microscope and it looks like InkMagic ink is a little bit thinner (spreads our more) than Epson's ink, which should help prevent clogs. My wife has a widebody Epson 1280 and uses InkMagic ink also, it's a quarter of Epson's price and also works well. Neither printer has had any problems and both have been heavily used for 2 years now. I have no connection with InkMagic.com except as a customer, but I will use their ink as long as it's available because it saves me a ton of money and it works! PS: My good experience only applies to their ink for Epsons, which comes in new cartridges. I also tried their refilled cartridges for HP printers and while the black ones were fine, both color ones I tried had problems; the saving was also less on HP ink.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (8/7/06 10:46 AM) | + / - | Why is everyone freaking out over printers that are cheaper than the ink cartridges themselves. Why dont you just save a lot of time and money and just buy a new printer every time the ink runs low (which happens to come with new ink as well and normally a warrenty). 100 dollar printers fail these days, no matter what brand.

Does any one need any ink cartridges...

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (10/2/06 2:58 PM) | + / - | In response to my Anonymous post back in May 7, 2006...
By the way, I called EPSON again and told them about my troubleshooting efforts. They decided that, even though I was clearly out of warranty, they would ship me a brand new EPSON STYLUS cx7800. A mighty good trade-up if you don't mind me saying so myself. But I would have never purchased the thing with my own money, the ink cartridge sizes shrunk 50-70%! Go figure.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by winty03 (10/8/06 4:27 PM) | + / - | Does anyone have a picture they could send me of the ink system for a cx5200? The part where the print head sits in, that has the sponge and small rubber tube running from it. I dismanteled the printer and when removing that part it all fell apart on me so I was unable to see how it came apart so now I have no idea how it goes. I have a service manual for it, but the pictures in it does not help. they are not detailed enough. Thanks Chris please email any help to chriswinter@charter.net

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (10/19/06 7:48 AM) | + / - | Absolutely funny replies here!!!
I have worked in a call center before and if I learned one thing it is this. If you call in saying "I'm going to trash your product and go to the competition" they laugh at you!! Like they have never heard that line within the last hour.
Major corporations like Epson or HP have MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of satisfied customers. A focus group came around roughly 6-8 years ago to help major corporations (like Epson and HP) to help them save money buy changing their thoughts on how to deal with customers.
People would "threaten" corporations that they will take their business elsewhere and corporations would bend over backwards for the customers. Not no more. Those days are over I'm sorry to say.
If you're a prick or bitch to the person on the other line, they sit back in their chair and mute you while making FUN of you with other coworkers or eat their lunch or do a crossword puzzle while you rant and rave with a big smile on their face. I know I did with other companies and others around me did the same. This is corporation wide!! Be nice to the person on the other line and you might get somewhere!!!
Remember this advice!!! It may get you somewhere in life!!
Moving on to the "Epson Issue"
I just shake my head. I have seen simular products to the cx5200 on the Epson website sell under $100 and all I can do is shake my head after reading the uncontroled rantings of people on here!!!
Dude!!! You bought a printer that cost you maybe $100 or $200 max that you NEVER followed the proper maintence of the unit and wondered why after a year or two failed and broke down!!! If you come back and say you spent more than $200 then I'm sorry to say but the salesman(woman) saw you coming from a country mile away and took total advantage of you and you were ripped off!!! Go beat up the person who sold it to you. Not the company who built the product.
There is a saying:
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR!!!
You did get it!!! Don't expect to be cheap and buy something cheap and have it last for a lifetime!!! My printer is worth roughly $450 and does a fine job. I do in fact own an Epson printer and RESEARCHED it before purchasing it to find out some VERY interesting facts.
1. The print heads are in the unit, not the cartridge. Additional maintence required. That is why you have a higher quality than other companies.
2. They will send you another unit by courier FREE OF CHARGE. UNHEARD OF in any business! Usually have to take the product to their service center, wait weeks or months to have it fixed or mail it in to them at YOUR EXPENSE for them to fix it.
3. Inks do expire! I never knew this before until one day shopping with a friend and was asking why he was looking at the bottom of every box and he said check the exparation date. We were at a MAJOR office supply company who sells TONS of ink in a major city and I was shocked to see how many ink cartridges were actually expired or close to their expiriry date.
4. With any ink cartridge on the market, once you place that ink cartridge into the printer it only has a life span of a MAXIMUM 6 months before the ink inside starts to separate, crystalize or dry up. Yes there might still be ink in that cartridge but it is no good!
Some things to remember...
People complaining they have not done their REQUIRED maintence on their printer that they paid less than $200 for and the product is garbage and no good is as dumb as George W. saying he went into Iraq to "liberate" the Iraquis and it isn't about Saudi or the oil.
Would you drive your brand new car without changing the oil or other fluids on a regular basis then blow the engine and do an oil change and DEMAND company satisfaction and DEMAND they put a new engine in your car free of charge under warranty when you're out of warranty? Who's fault is it the engine failed? YOURS!!!
If you don't do your required maintence on anything it WILL fail. You people are LAZY and don't do what you're supposed to do then come in here online and CRY that your entry level (cheap priced) printer has failed and the product is crap.
I would LOVE to just sit in the Epson call center for 1 day and listen in to your calls. I bet the place is comedy central with all you jokers calling in because your bottom line printer failed because you were too lazy to do proper maintence on the printer.
- You bought a low end printer. Not a high end printer line. - You ran your printer without proper maintence. - Your printer failed because you didnt read the proper doccumentation. - Once it failed you then changed the ink cartridges and did the maintence like your supposed to do.
Please explain to me once again how this is the companies fault and not your own stupidity???
You will sit down and read this whole message which is actually longer than your owners manual and proper maintence guide but will not read your owners manual on how to properly care for your new product.
Now that is FUNNY!!!!
PS. If anyone who works for Epson is actually reading this crap. I feel for you and don't let a couple of cheap ass cry babies ruin your day!!! Keep up the good work! I would LOVE to hear your stories!!!
Signed... Dedicated Epson User.

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Anonymous (10/19/06 8:12 AM) | + / - | So many people freaking out about a cheap printer saying it is a known issue...
There is how many posts in here of people complaining? Maybe 50? I know some idiot will actually count how many people in total...
I bet your local store sold more of these printers alone than the amount of people in here complaining and saying lets get a class action law suit. How childish!
Do you know how cheap and low class you sound on here with your complaining? millions and maybe billions of these units have been sold worldwide but because 0.00001% of the owners of these cheap units say there is an issue it is a known issue?
Give me a break. Don't be so cheap next time and buy a printer worth a grand before you start to cry in public.
Empathy will not come free to those who are cheap.
You do look really silly and pathetic crying online to the world that you bought a cheap printer and it failed!
Now I could understand if you were in the age bracket of 9 to 12 where $100 was a lot of money and you had to save up for months doing your paper route to buy the printer. If you're an adult and complaing that you spent $100 for a printer that failed after 2 years then you seriously need to reconcider your finances here and cancel your internet services as you can not afford them finincially if you're spending 50% of your printers cost a month on internet services but cant afford to upgrade to a better model.
These types of printers are designed for low budgets such as high school or college/university students who can't afford a real printer and only require it for a year or two while they do their studies and print off homework assignments. Think about that before you post about how shitty your printer is!!!!
Way to go brainiacs!!! Thanks for the laughs!!!

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by Stephen (edited 10/24/06 5:41 AM) | + / - | Regarding the number of printers that fail...
If there were only a few failing I suspect this site would not go to the trouble of selling a repair kit for $9.99.
http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kits/epson/K89
If you search FYOP for "epson blank" you get quite a few hits:
http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/search/forums?q=epson+blank
"Showing threads 1-10 of 449"
I agree that when you buy cheap you get cheap, but I also agree that epson heads clog, read enough threads and you find epson sometimes replacing out of warranty printers free, (companies don't do that "because 0.00001% of the owners of these cheap units say there is an issue").

There was at least one Lawsuit settled, but it had to do with ink level reporting:

 | Re: clogged Epson CX5200 by AKingston (11/14/06 8:16 AM) | + / - | The CX5400 does the exact same thing. I found this tare/ink substance in the bottum on one of the tubes. I actaully took the arm off on the Envelope/Paper switch next to the print heads. When I took it off this spring thing fell into the printer. Does anyone know how to put the spring thing back on? It seems lit the print heads are not on track. When I turn it on it makes a sound like it is trying to move them into place and then nothing. How do I get the print head cartridge back on line on the Bar it is set on?
