 | Epson 950 / 960 doesn't load paper by Bert (7/25/04 1:41 AM) reply | + / - | I've got an Epson Stylus Photo 950 (same as 960) and it doesn't load paper. If I send it a printjob it takes a sheet of paper transports it down about an inch, puts it back on the stack and then starts printing as if there is paper to print on! It also doesn't notice if it is out of paper. If I force-feed it some paper by bypassing the "locking mechanism" then it will remove it in a correct manner. So it seems that the transportmechnism is working well. It also seems to do a lot of cleaning cycles.

I would first suggest cleaning the Pick-Up/Feed-In Roller or Rollers with a "Rubber Roller Cleaner/Rejuvinator" and see if that helps. Some of the best Rubber Roller Rejuvenator that I have ever used, is available in a can: Price = $10, Shipping = $6 ($8 International), from http://fixyourownprinter.com/sp0.html. It is also available as a Rubber Roller Rejuvenator Pad: One pad soaked with rubber restorer, enough to fix several printers and simple directions for use. The price: Send two dollars and a self-addressed stamped envelope to: Laser Service, 1620 Aviation Blvd., Redondo Beach, CA 90278. International customers add another dollar and skip the stamp. | Re: Epson 950 / 960 doesn't load paper -solution by Anonymous (1/22/07 5:37 PM) reply | + / - | I found a solution to my paper feed problem with my Epson Stylus Photo 960. I had first tried the "check jam sensor spring" (having to take the machine partially apart). The spring was not missing, so that wasn't the problem. Hating to have to junk this printer, because I still had about $100.00 worth of color cartridges on hand, I decided to see if I could find some other cause. Looking at the front of the printer, at the cylinder that is supposed to turn when feeding the paper, I noticed that at the left end of that cylinder (which wasn't turning), there were a couple of white plastic gears, and on the metal cylinder that ended at those gears, there was a tiny black upraised "button". I could see that the closest white plastic gear had indentations every every 1/2" or so, where theoretically this black button could fit (if pushed with brute force), and therefore engage the plastic gears with the metal cylinder. I did just that, using a flat screwdriver and was able to nudge the black button into one of the indentations on the white plastic gear. Before turning on the power, I was able to physically push the white plastic gear to test that it did indeed now move the metal cylinder. Put it back together, and it's smoothly now feeding the paper. Strangely, no one in this forum had mentioned that cause and solution.

Was OK.I was looking for some broken plastick gear tooth. Can find any. I read your letter. First I can not find any tiny black upraised "button". Than I saw black "pin" what looked to me as set screw. So I sad "letz try it", and it worked. Thanks once more Normunds
P.S.: I also had more then $100.00 worth of cartridges

 | Re: Epson 950 / 960 doesn't load paper by shotsky (10/14/07 7:59 AM) reply | + / - | My Epson 960 doesn't feed paper on nearly every printing job, and the paper light comes on. Sometimes, paper will feed if I just press the paper button a couple of times. It has sometimes kicked a sheet of paper completely out of the printer. Other times, it will feed multiple sheets.
It has jammed a few times, and I pulled the paper back out the way it had come in, after turning the printer off. I have removed bits of paper at times.
Sometimes, it works fine, other times I have to stand there and keep pressing the paper button until it finally takes the paper. I fan the paper, am using good paper, etc. (Although the paper is about 4 years old.) When I printed the above string, the first two sheets printed fine, but the 3rd sheet brought the red light on. I'd say about 1/2 the sheets usually need manual assistance.
I have not yet disassembled the printer because I suspect the spring is probably ok, or I wouldn't get good feeding of paper ever.
Sometimes, I remove the sheet that won't feed, and discover that the printer has somehow kinked the leading edge of the paper. It is as if the feed path is somehow misaligned a little. Once paper gets started, it feeds fine.
Any thoughts?
John
