Hello, I own an HP K60 OfficeJet, with the famous "scanner failure"!!! The scanner light continues to stay on, printer works fine, I have tried all the "tricks" that were advised. I am very mechanical, and own all the needed tools. I am sure I am not the only one who is not ready to SMASH this thing with a hammer!! Any sloutions/directions to obtain the correct fix and a repair manual?? I tried to navigate trough this site, but I don't belive anything applies to my k60. Thanks, Mark

A very recent post said that the scanner failure could be cured, assuming that the light is still working, by cleaning the mirrors and lenses associated with scanner. Make sure that you mark everything optical so that in can be realigned properly upon reassembly.
My printer is a HP Officejet K60, it's about 6 years old. I have never had any problems with it till now...I went to make a copy and it says initializing, then it goes to warming up....well it just stays on warming up and you can hear it trying to do something but it never does. The screen scanner failure comes up and it says turn power off then back on. The printer works fine...and as far as i know the fax does too...I haven't needed to use fax lately. Has anyone had this problem? If so....how do you fix it. I don't want to start wripping the thing apart if it is an easy fix.
My printer just keeps saying warming up and you can here it clicking like it is trying to do something. The scanner light is on...then a message comes up that says scanner failure Turn off power then back on. when you do that....nothing happens. How do you get rid of this message?

My son messed up something on the computer and teh K60 quit working Today I found the disk and tried to reload it. It loaded the software, however it was too fast.
So I went to my computer programs and found that I had three partial installations. Now it will not let me load a full intstallation, but it wont let me use the control panel to remove the programs or the disc to remove the programs.
I keep getting 'unable to intialize device manager' every time I try to delete or scan or anything to do with the K60.
I have the same problem, but I can't copy or scan. I checked the hp website, it said if the scan light comes on, then try plugging into the wall if it's plugged into a power strip. If that doesn't work, then it requires a partial reset. Problem is, the K series reset buttons aren't listed and when I contacted HP, support is no longer available for the product! If anyone knows how to reset this thing...please help!

Thanks Bert. I tried them both...the # and 6 worked for the reset, but didn't fix the problem. Looks like I'll have to take it apart and clean it after all. Wish me luck!

If you haven't ran across instructions on how to remove the scanner, here are instructions written for the Officejet K80 which is essentially the same printer. In case you need it, the scanner P/N is C6747-60007.
Tools Needed T10 Torx head driver Medium slot style screwdriver
Preliminary Open the cover and allow the carriage to center, then unplug the power.
Removing the outer case 1. Open the carriage access door and remove six screws, four silver and two black. 2. Remove the end covers by releasing two latches on each. They unlatch identically. On either cover, pry under the flange on the front, just below the scanner, with a slot style screwdriver. The first latch will release. Pry under the flange where the front most silver screw went through. The second latch will release. The end covers will now be loosened but will not readily slip off (horizontally). Some coaxing will be necessary. 3. Remove the cartridge access door assembly. Viewed from rear, there are two slots about 3/8” long. Insert a slot style screwdriver into one of them and pry downward while pulling upward on the door assembly. The assembly will partially release. Pry similarly in the other slot and the rear of the assembly will completely release. Pull upward and the latches in front will release and the assembly will come free.
Removing the scanner 1. Unplug all of the cables coming from the scanner that go to electronics board. Take note of how the ribbon cables plug because they can be rotated 180 degrees. 2. Remove the two screws securing the scanner. They are in the cartridge access area. Also remove the screw securing the green wire to the printer body. 3. Pull the scanner straight back and it will come free of the printer. Some wiggling will be necessary.

When I try to scan a message comes up on my screan that says cannot connect to PC. I bought a new PC but I was able to scan in the past. What am I doing wrong?
