 | I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Allen (4/11/04 9:41 PM) | + / - | I've been doing a lot of cleaning cycles trying to get rid of banding, and now the ink and paper feed lights are flashing back and forth. The driver says "service required" and "Parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life." None of the button-pressing procedures for other Epson printers seem to work. Web sites with service manuals don't have the one for the C64. And the SCC utility has the protection counter option greyed out with this printer. Arrrrigh!!!

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Allen (4/19/04 3:40 PM) | + / - | Allen here again. I still don't know how to reset the counter, but I have some important information for current and prospective customers of Epson, especially owners of the Epson Stylus C64 and the Epson Stylus C84 printers with Durabrite (Durabright) ink and T0441, T0442, T0443, and T0444 ink cartridges. As many of you know, the Epson ink jet printer protection counter, or waste ink counter, keeps track of how much ink goes into the sponge at the bottom of the printer during cleaning cycles. When the printer thinks it's full, and it usually isn't, the printer shuts itself off and can only be reactivated by an authorized Epson service center, which will probably cost more than the printer is worth, so you'll have to buy a new printer. Obviously, if you're refilling your cartridges with reasonably priced, 3rd party ink, and you have to run lots of cleaning cycles to get the air out of the cartridges, you'll run out the protection counter in a few months or less. I'm confident this is NOT an accident. Epson wants to force you to buy their ink. After my protection counter ran out, in mid-April, 2004, I called the Epson pre-sales line (1-800-463-7766, 6am to 6pm EST Mon-Fri) and pretended to be a prospective customer who wasn't willing to buy a printer without knowing how to reset the protection counter. At first he pretended not to know what that was. He actually said it was "not a feature highlighted by Epson" as if he knew nothing more than what's on the promotional brochure. Then, a few moments later, he argued that the protection counter shouldn't run out for 5 to 7 years. As I pressed him, the guy got obviously uncomfortable and defensive and said categorically that nobody at Epson would be able to give me that information. He then volunteered the fact that Epson is not even accepting new applications to become an authorized Epson service center. Apparently the evil Epson corporation is going to keep this secret from its customers as long as possible in order to sell as much obscenely overpriced ink as they can. They should rename it the "profit protection counter." It's like something out of a Dilbert cartoon! --->I strongly recommend that nobody buy an Epson printer unless they know in advance how to reset the protection counter for that particular model.<--- Also, people with newer Epson printers should avoid using the head cleaning function of the printer until finding out how to reset the protection counter. If the print head needs cleaning, I would put a folded paper towel under the print head, push a flexible tube onto the spike (which pierces the ink cartridge) and very gently inject ink or cleaning solution. (Be sure not to inject any air.) You could even disassemble the printer, disconnect the tube which sucks on the print head, and connect it to a syringe in order to suck it out manually. Doing these things obviously won't advance the protection counter.

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Allen (4/20/04 4:41 AM) | + / - | Thanks, but as I wrote, the SSC utility doesn't support protection counter reset on the newest Epson printers including my C64.

Could you please give me estimation number of printer head cleaning before "service require". Any how I feel enjoy with following durabrite model because now I use external ink-tank so I can refill ink easily and C63 cost me only $65 per machine!
|
 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Allen (4/20/04 11:10 PM) | + / - | You asked the same question in the SSC forum. I'll repeat my answer for the benefit of others. I was using the SSC utility's "black head cleaning" function which seems to run about 3 cleaning cycles each time. I also used the heavy cleaning at least once. I'm guessing I did the equivalent of 50 to 200 normal cleanings. But the printer does a small cleaning on a regular basis, and if you use the Epson driver to do the cleaning, it will clean harder each time until you tell it the test pattern is good. So it's difficult to estimate. My printer is only a couple of months old. If you don't try to refill your cartridges and suck the ink through with the cleaning cycles, the printer will probably last for at least 3 years of normal use.

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Wes (4/21/04 1:38 AM) | + / - | The counter's limit is around 32915 points. Keep checking 2manuals.com they will have the service program at some point. But I have no idea when. Wes.

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Allen (6/28/04 2:36 PM) | + / - | There's now a service program available from 2manuals.com for US$10. Just type "C64" into the search box. I E-mailed them and they said it does reset an expired waste ink counter on the C64. I'm going to try and save the $10 and wait a little longer for SSC. But if anyone buys the service program, let us know if it works or not.
|
 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Allen (7/5/04 6:05 PM) | + / - | The service program for the C63 and C64 is now available for free from: http://www.resetters.com/downloadfiles.php I've used this program. It resets the expired waste ink counter and reactivates the printer. Yes! Suck on this, Epson!

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Denny Conway (7/15/04 9:43 AM) | + / - | Mike: As you have already replaced the ink cartridges and performed the Printhead Cleaning Cycle several times, then it's possible that you might actually have a Hardware/Parts Failure [failing Printhead Assembly or Main Board Assembly], but no way to really know. The only thing I can suggest is that you deinstall your printer and then go on-line to EPSON.COM and download the latest Printer Drivers to try. Its always possible that your old drivers have become corrupted and are possibly causing problems. You can delete your old drivers and download the latest available drivers from the Epson Home Page at http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/index.jsp . As drivers are FREE, I usually recommend trying those first if you have a communication problem. Bad or corrupted drivers can cause many problems. "DEINSTALL" [remove] your old drivers/printer first and then go to the "EPSON.COM" web-site. Look under "DRIVERS AND SUPPORT" and then click-on "DRIVERS AND DOWNLOADS". Look under the "Ink Jet Printers" for your "Epson Stylus C64" and click-on it. Once the "DOWNLOAD PAGE" opens, read the INFORMATION to locate your particular SYSTEM [Win's 95,98,ME,2000.etc.] and then click-on it. Follow the directions and read all the available information concerning your systems driver downloads. Finally at the bottom of the page, click-on "Printer Software Installation for Windows ___ [Epson Printers]", or the "Download" option button. After the downloading utility opens, read the download information available, make your choices and complete the installation...Good Luck! Denny Conway

Hi, I have an Epson Stylus RX510 and have the same error msg showing on the printer driver. Strangely I have only done a head cleaning function only twice on my new printer. Also because we do alot of printing here I have installed a "blue wave" ink tube (cartridge - plastic tube - ink container) technology. Does anyone know how to solve this problem on an Epson Stylus RX510? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Jen

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Mick Collins (7/20/04 7:09 AM) | + / - | Firstly I would like to thank Denny and all who submit information to the forum. Brilliant site, the information was invaluable to me. I have two C64s and was using them for photographs mostly. I got two months use with the first one and six weeks with the second one and got the "service required" error. As I was completely new to computers and printing I was going to dump both printers until I came across this site. Today I took them to an Epson express centre after e-mailing Epson. I told the technician I had researched the problem and offered my thoughts. He took the printers into the workshop and was back in under five minutes with both printers fixed at no charge under warranty. He said the points were nowhere near their maximum and I shouldn't have got the error message. He also recommended the SSC utility which he uses on his own computer. I hope this information may be of use to someone and thanks again.

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Denny Conway (7/20/04 9:45 AM) | + / - | Jennifer: I'm sorry, but I have never actually seen an "Epson Stylus RX510 Printer" and most Epson Authorized Service Dealers are not actually trained on any of the newer Epson Printer lines. Normally that service message indicates that the WASTE INK PADS need to be replaced and the "Internal Ink Counter", then needs to be reset. If your printer is actually new and still under its origional Factory Warranty, then there's no charge to talk to the "Epson Technical Support Department". That way you are talking directly with a technician, that is actually trained by Epson Company on your particular printer. To see available phone numbers for technical support and replacement parts ordering, go on-line to Epson @ " www.epson.com ", or call the Epson Automated Support Locator @ 1-800-442-2110 [press 1, then 1 & following prompts]. If your printer is out of warranty, you will need a credit card, before the technicians can help you, because there is a charge for technical support over the phone...If they are unable to actually help you over the phone and your printer is under warranty, then you can call the "Epson Connection", at 1-562-276-1300 and file a Warranty Claim. I don't actually see a "RX510" listed, but there is a listing for a "RX500". Epson normally offers a WHOLE UNIT EXCHANGE on most ink jet style printers that fail under warranty, but you may need to provide Proof Of Purchase [origional sales receipt or invoice]...Good Luck! | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Denny Conway (7/20/04 9:57 AM) | + / - | Jennifer...FOLLOW-UP TO FIRST MESSAGE: I found out that your "RX510" model was actually made for overseas sales and is listed on the Epson Australia web-site. Unfortunatly, the Epson Connection information and the Epson telephone numbers will not do you any good outside the USA. You can go on-line to the Epson Australia "Contact Support/Service" web-site, at http://tech.epson.com.au/contact/contact.asp and see the available ways to contact Epson for help...Again, Good Luck! | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by tankmom (7/22/04 3:14 PM) | + / - | Wow...after 3 months I thought I'd had enough problems with this "simple and inexpensive" printer. Now I have to worry about a Waste Ink Procedure? I "waste" enough time with this silly-arse printer than is sensible as it is. Give me my limping lame cow of an HP Deskjet back anyday.
|
 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Denny Conway (7/22/04 4:04 PM) | + / - | Tankmom: You're right, the older ink jet printers, especially the older HP DeskJets, were just built better and lasted longer. Of course they also cost more, so you paid for that quality. Now the new ink jet printers [from all manufactors, including HP] are so cheap, that the have become disposable. Some models only carry a 90-day warranty and sometimes it seems like they are lucky if they make it that long. Prices are low, but so is the quality. Basically, any printer under $100 is considered a disposable printer in the Printer Industry. Even the quality of the printers from $100 to $150, is starting to look like they are becoming more disposable as well. The majority of the people seem to buy those inexpensive printers at a high rate, so in turn printer manufactors keep building cheaper printers to compete with each other. To keep the prices lower, I guess something has to suffer. It just seems like in the end it usually turns out to be the consumer...Denny Conway

Prints cancellations took hours. argggghh I was talked into this stylus and can't kick my own butt enough. Have you ever tried to refill an ink cartridge for an Epson???? Double check your patience (and your wallet) at the door. I refuse to pay full price for ink, I have no problem with refilling, but Epson's refilling quotas are over and above the realm of normal requirements. Blechhhhhh. For a computer nerd who wants to control the system...I can't UNrecommend this printer enough. I'd love to hear a recommendation for an affordable printer that works well. :-)

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Anonymous (7/23/04 12:25 PM) | + / - | Tankmom: If you need or want to refill your old ink cartridges, or even if you want to actually use Remanufactored, Generic or Third-Party ink or ink cartridges, then I recommend you stay away from the Epson line of ink jet printers altogether. Epson Ink Jet Style Printers are one of the few printers on the market that seem to have so many problems with non-manufactors inks and its because they use a completely different printhead inking system than most other brands of printers. Most, if not all of the other manufactors, use thermal or bubble jetprint heads and because the other brands use a totally different system, they don't seem to have as many problems using refilled inks or non-manufactor's ink cartridges. Any difference in the ink formulation can clog the small printhead nozzles or damage other critical components on Epson Printers. One individual printhead nozzle is so tiny, that it will not accept a human hair, so you can see why they can get clogged so easily, or even why the nozzles can be so easily damaged. Some people report being able to refill the older models of Epson Printers and use Non-Epson Ink or Ink Cartridges successfully, but thats generally not true on any of the newer models. Especially those that actually have Electrical Chips mounted on the ink cartridge. Most of the time Epson Printers will have trouble using Non-Epson Ink Cartridges...Denny Conway

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by tankmom (7/24/04 1:14 AM) | + / - | Thanks for that good explanation. I honestly thought I was just nuts. This printer has been "down" for at least half of the 3 months I've owned it. I finally got it working yesterday by running a cloth under the print heads. Um....what other printer do you need to do that to when it's still basically new??? A printer that hasn't gone through even one batch of colored ink and is only half-way through with it's second fill of black should NOT be this lame. They say you need to print regularly, and we do print daily (when our Epson-deity deems it worthy), just not in bulk. The next time I have an "issue" with my C64 (which will probably be tomorrow) it's going to be solved by the dumpster. LOL

I bougth the printer in March and the printer worked well for 1 month, but then it started to print with blank lines and some spaces whitout colors. I clean the head several times until the ink cartridges finished. I called Epson for the warranty and they sent me another printer....from the beginning it printed bad ..the same problem. I always used the original cartridges, and with the printer that they sent me it came with other original cartridges ...Now I have to buy other printer (Canon or HP), but I am still sending the printer for warranty.

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Denny Conway (8/16/04 1:07 PM) | + / - | Graciela: It's possible that you may even have an actual HARDWARE/PARTS PROBLEM, but normally the most common problem is clogging of the Printhead Nozzles. You might want to try using the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution, available through the Home Page on "fixyourownprinter.com", at http://fixyourownprinter.com/ . When it opens, click-on Epson, under PRINTER REPAIR KITS. Then click-on "Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution" and that page should then open correctly. The Epson Solution sells for around $10.00 plus shipping. It includes a syringe and some Epson Printhead Cleaning Solution, which is designed to dissolve most clogs, especially if you were using Epson inks. This is the same chemical used by Epson in their service department. You can try it if you want to and see if you can get the printhead nozzles to open up again, but that will only help if they are actually clogged. It was basically designed by Epson Company for use on their older models of ink jet printers, but people have been using on the newer models, with some sucess reported. If you want to see what's involved in print head cleaning, Wes has supplied a link that might help: http://www.epsonhelp.web1000.com/printhead.html and he also suggests trying the SSC Service Utility from here: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html . Unfortunatly, that SSC Utility does not work on all printers and on all Operating Systems, so you will have to actually check for yourself...IF YOU DECIDE TO, TRY THE "EPSON STYLUS HEAD CLEANING SOLUTION", JUST REMEMBER: The "nozzles" inside the printhead assembly can be easily damaged by using to much force on the plunger of the syringe. Damage can even occur when you are using the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution method, if you actually try to force the fluid thru the nozzle. To much force/pressure can damage the little tubes inside the Nozzle Assembly and then it will never work again. One individual printhead nozzle is so tiny, that it will not accept a human hair. You can see why they can get clogged so easily, or even why the nozzles can be so easily damaged. The correct method is to use the syringe to add the fluid into the nozzle and then leave the fluids set inside the nozzle for a day or two, to try and dissolve a possible bad clog. Sometimes you might have to use the fluids several times to be able to dissolve the clog in the printhead nozzles. Sometimes the clog will never disolve, or it actually damages the nozzles. The longer the clog has been in, the worse it is to remove. Again, if the cleaning fluids don't help, then its generally time to invest in a new printer. In some more expensive printers, you may want to get an estimate to replace the printhead assembly, but as a general rule, its not really economical to do in the smaller Epson Ink Jet style printers. You can generally buy a new small printer cheaper than you can have your old one repaired for. EXAMPLE: The printhead assembly in the "C80" Printer sells for around $120 to $130...Again, Good Luck! | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by NGHIA (9/5/04 7:19 PM) | + / - | This is in regards to refill of C65/c64/c63 printer cartridge. Hope this help anyone who looking for info on this matter. With the original cartridge it is very hard to refill but is possible, you just have to first carefully peel off the side cover so you can see the interior of the cartridge, which consisted of a few chamber feeding ink to the head via one another. then drill a small hole from top into one of the chamber and then with a syringe fill it with ink using the negative pressure, which mean to pull/push system, pull to create vacuum in the cartridge then push to inject ink, with the side cover off you can till the cartridge to get all chamber fill up (you will never get 100% refill though) TIP: use bluetak around the needle and the drilled hole for airtight seal when filling, can also use it to block the hole when done. The above method can be very messy. The bettery way to do it is to buy a set of CALIDAD HERO cartridge that are for these printer, when they become emty, peels off the top label and you will find hole in there that are label "fill", just poke a needle thru it and start filling with the needle insert deep into it. Fill slowly as you would with any filling. DONT wait until the cartridge is emty to do this, do it when there are at least 10% left on the counter. To reset the catridge counter, use the calidad universal epson reset (cost me $12AUS from K-mart) The INK to use: must be pigment base ink (the standard universal ink you can buy are dye base ink and is not good for these printer. I've search long on the web and found a supplier in Sydney AUSTRALIA, who send me 250Ml (minimum purchase) per color for $55AUS each. I Did my first refill with the calidad cartridge last night on the black cartridge and it worked like a charm. I did serveral print last night and found no lost in quality. If you live in AUSTRALIA and would like to know where to purchase the ink from email me and I will try to find the supplier from my previous email with them. the C65 is the same as the C64 in UK. That's my contribution for the day. N.P my email is: ncp76<at>yahoo.com

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Proced by Denny Conway (2/22/05 1:32 PM) | + / - | Anonymous: Its possible that yellow ink cartridge is simply bad, or that the yellow nozzles may be clogged. Be sure and run up to 6 sets of "Printhead Cleaning Cycles" and "Nozzle Tests", to try and get that yellow ink to start flowing correctly again. Running a lot of "PRINTHEAD CLEANING CYCLES" and "NOZZLE TESTS" can use up the ink inside the cartridges. If running those tests does not help, then it's possible that you may even have an actual hardware/parts problem [failing Printhead Assembly or Main Board Assembly], but normally the most common problem is clogging of the Printhead Nozzles. If your printer is still under its origional factory warranty, then there's no charge to talk to the "Epson Technical Support Department". That way you are talking directly with a technician, that is actually trained by Epson Company on your particular printer. To see available phone numbers for technical support and replacement parts ordering, go on-line to Epson @ " http://www.epson.com ", or call the Epson Automated Support Locator @ 1-800-442-2110 [press 1, then 1 & following prompts]. If your printer is out of warranty, you will need a credit card, before the technicians can help you, because there is a charge for technical support over the phone. If they cannot actually help you, then you can call the Epson Connection, at 1-562-276-1300 and file an actual warranty claim...If your printer is not under warranty, then you might want to try using the "Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution", available through fixyourownprinter.com, at http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kits/epson , but it will only help, if there is an actual clogged printhead assembly. When it opens, click-on the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution thats listed for your particular printer. The Epson solution sells for around .00 plus shipping. It was basically designed by Epson Company for use on their older models of ink jet printers, but people have been using it on the newer models, with success reported. IF YOU DECIDE TO, TRY THE "EPSON STYLUS HEAD CLEANING SOLUTION", JUST REMEMBER: The "nozzles" inside the printhead assembly can be easily damaged by using to much force on the plunger of the syringe. Sometimes the clog will never dissolve, or it actually damages the nozzles. EXAMPLE: The printhead assembly in the "C80" Printer sells for around to . There is a REVIEW of the "Printhead Cleaning Solution", as well as general "Printhead Cleaning Instructions", that is available to view at http://www.inkjetprinterhelp.us/EKR.html...Good Luck! pressing and holding the paper eject button for 5 seconds.
While still holding the eject button now hold the power button and the eject button for 5 seconds.

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Denny Conway (3/3/05 3:47 PM) | + / - | tomcat: Even if that reset procedure works on most of the Epson Printers, remember thats only part of the actual fix for that "Maintenance Request Error". You will still need to to replace the old "Waste Ink Pad/Pads" with a new one/ones, or at least wash & dry the old pads, or eventually they will overflow and ink will then leak out the bottom of your printer. Some people actually wash the ink out of the old pads, by holding them under running cold water. Then they simply dry them out and reinstall them back into their printer...To anyone that wants to try "tomcats" listed reset procedure: The choice on what to actually do, is of course yours to make. I would at least recommend trying that reset and see if it does reset the "Waste Ink Counter" on your particular model of Epson Ink Jet Printer. You can make sure your printer will then work and if it does, then you can take care of those waste ink pads, if you want too...Denny Conway

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Proced by Bay (3/15/05 3:49 PM) | + / - | Allen, You've said it for many Epson printer owners. I wish I had asked before I bought. I use after market ink and have to clean the heads before each use. The service alert notice started coming up and we all know that it's the waste ink status monitor that is forcing me to go to the service center. I almost got the secret combination from the tech, but now he is not returning my calls and even worse, the printer won't stay on. The two red lights flash and green goes off immediately. So I can't even installl a new driver. Help! Is this perfectly good machine destined to be a boat anchor?

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Proced by Denny Conway (3/15/05 5:59 PM) | + / - | Bay: If your printer is getting that MAINTENANCE REQUEST ERROR, then you can always try the SSC Service UTILITY, at http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/sscserve.exe and see if it will reset that Waste Ink Counter for you. You can also check and see if your printer is compatible to using that utility, by going to http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html . Unfortunatly, that "SSC Service Utility" does not work on all Epson Printers and not on all Operating Systems and sometimes will not even work on actually listed printer models, so you will have to check it out for yourself. Just in case that source does not work: You may actually need to go on-line to try and locate a "SERVICE MANUAL" and or the actual "RESET PROCEDURE", to buy and download for reference in disassembly, troubleshooting and servicing. I have not checked, but you can normally find Service Manuals & Reset Procedures for most Epson Printers, from 2manuals.com, at http://www.2manuals.com/index.php?cPath=2_18 . Most Service Manuals can usually be downloaded for around $10 [+/-]. The reset Procedure is usually available from the same source and is also around $10.00 [+/-]...Simply resetting that "Maintenance Request Error", is only doing part of the job and its possible that you could have additional problems later. The maintenance request error is actually a "Waste Ink Ink Pad Error" and usually your remedy is to replace the waste ink pad/pads with a new one/ones and then reset the "Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter", which of course you already did. If you just reset the counter and don't replace the pads, then your printers old pads will eventually overflow and normally start leaking ink out the bottom of your printer. You can see "Exploded Parts Diagrams" of most Epson Ink Jet Printers and can also check on possible parts ordering, by Compass Micro Inc, at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm . Some people actually wash the ink out of the old pads, by holding them under running cold water. Then they simply dry them out and reinstall them back into their printer. The choice on what to actually do, is yours to make. There is an "Epson C64/C84 Disassembly Instructions Page", that you can view at http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/C641.html , that may be of some help. There is also an "EPSON C64/C84 Printer Repair Page", available to view, at http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/C64M1.html . There is a free download of an "Epson Stylus Color C63/C64/C83/C84 Service Manual", from fixyourownprinter.com, at http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/reference/manuals/public/epson . That manual may be of some help in servicing those waste ink pads...Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Epson R210 Mac Driver problem by Anonymous (8/5/05 5:42 AM) | + / - | I have recently purchased an Epson Stylus Photo R210 and installed the Mac driver from the CD. I am using a Mac G4 and OS 10.4 (Tiger) The driver fails to install. At least it does not appear in the Epson Driver list in Printer Setup. I have also tried installing the latest driver from the Epson site. Same result. I am currently using a GimpPrint Driver from the Epson printer list and it works but I am unable to us the CD print function which is why I purchased the printer. I have e-mailed Epson support and two weeks later have had no reply. Has anyone experienced similar problems and found a way to get Tiger to find the driver. Thanks Peter Garwood

You would be better off getting the plus kit from here. It works good on cleaning the print head. Do not remove the print head to clean it. It is not necessary and you can cause more problems than you solve.

The printer was working perfectly at the time and the waste ink pad did not need replacing. This is a con by Epson to make you keep paying them money! The only reason they get away with it is that people cannot be bothered to take them to court for the price of a printer.

 | Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by Anonymous (11/8/05 7:06 AM) | + / - | If the printer did not have the prorection counter the printer would start to leak ink out of the printer. Thus causing people to whine about the printer leaking ink. What to you prefer a printer that does not leak ink or a printer that does leaks ink???
The waste ink has to go somewhere. There is no external ink drain.

The waste ink pad on my printer was only slightly damp when the counter stopped it from working. This counter is a cynical way of forcing customers to buy another Epson printer. When I phoned their customer service department they (surprise surprise) offered me a replacement printer for £38 - probably about the same as it would cost me to have printer serviced and the counter reset!

I know it's not really a related problem, but my Epson C64 is 2 years old and the printhead has just decided to knock the sides of the printer when turned on. Then the 2 red leds flash. Printer status shows as general error. Ink pad is very wet and my fingers are stained black, having removed the cover and can find no obvious fault. Support site indicates a service is needed.
Any ideas or should I bury it and start again?

 | Replaced cartridges, but nothing prints by sk_denny (3/4/06 2:05 AM) | + / - | Hello, can anybody help me? I have Epson Stylus C64 and know nothing about printers. I recently ran out of ink and purchased a set of Epson cartridges. Once I replaced the old ones, I tried to print and everything works fine except that the paper comes out blank. No ink actually transfers onto paper even though it looks like the printer is printing. Denisa

 | Re: Replaced cartridges, but nothing prints by WaveGuide (4/10/06 2:58 PM) | + / - | My advice, for what it's worth, is don't use Durabrite pigment based carts unless you have to. They give superb results when everything is running OK, but that won't last long. Most users simply don't use an Epson Durabrite printer often enough to justify the risk of blockages.
If you've a choice, use dye based compatibles instead. They're MUCH cheaper and produce results almost as good visually.
The reason your printer doesn't print is because the earlier Durabrite inks have blocked the printhead capillaries. Get some of the specialty cleaning stuff sold by FixYourOwnPrinter.com. Probably your only way forward in my experience.
Cheers, WaveGuide

 | Horizontal banding!! Help!!! by Mike Mc (5/22/06 7:02 AM) | + / - | I have a Epson C64 which is about 2 years old.
Everything was going well until I had to change the ink cartridges. I decided against paying the extortionate amount that Epson charge!!
When I installed the new cartridges, horizontal banding appeared across the pages. I tried all the maintenance procedures recommended in the manual including head cleaning several times and nozzle alignment to no avail.
I got a new computer and installed the printer onto it........this time fitted with genuine Epson cartridges. The problem is still there.......horizontal banding.
Can anyone please suggest a remedy?????
Thanks Mike

 | Waste Ink Counter Already Re-set by Anonymous (7/11/06 7:26 PM) | + / - | Dear Denny,
I've downloaded the SSC utility and performed the following on my C67. The printer is only 2 weeks old but I've modified with a CIS system. There's a waste ink tank connected to the back of the printer collecting waste ink.
However, on the software I can't see any ink values on the Ink Monitor. It's just blank without the individual colour graphs like we see in samples!
When I tried to reset the protection counter, I got a prompt asking "Have you replaced the Waste Ink Pads?" Press yes and it says "waste ink counter reset OK". How can I be sure that it was really successful?
When I press Show Counters, I get a maximum value of 25500 and a minimum value? of 3220. What does that mean?
Thanks Pauline.
