I am having repeated problems with paper jams with this machine. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps and still nothing. It makes a loud clicking noise when it moves the paper through then when it gets halfway through I get the paper jam message. It doesn't print anything either. I'm not sure what else to do. I would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks!!

I feel for you Sue!!!

I also have this problem (and now HATE this machine). I've used MANY HP laser printers over the years with no problem whatsoever; this was my first ink jet from them and from now on I'll stick to Epsons as I always did. OK, I feel better now. Let's continue...

Contacted HP about this supposedly jammed carriage many times and their suggestions were so basic or idiotic that I won't print them here (I tried them all to no avail anyway).

The ONLY sensible one was to clean the encoder strip (about 1/4"-wide clear mylar) that runs from side to side of the printer suspended in mid-air behind the print carriage. I used a Q-tip dipped in alcool and cleaned both sides of the strip. It SEEMED to solve the problem at first but the problem returned and cleaning didn't solve it that time.

There's another thread about this on the same site.

If someones find a solution please email everyone else on this thread. We all paid good money for this machine which I now use solely as a scanner!

Rather than going into a lot of directions here, take a look at the HP web site suggestions for solving these problems. You may have already tried these steps. I know they have solved them for others.

Let us know if any of this works.

I have an HP d135 all-in-one machine. This machine keeps throwing false "paper jam" messages. It looks like a timing problem. When I reset the error message by depressing the "Enter" button the machine runs through a feed cycle where -

1 - The paper support "ears" on each side of the output area fold out of the way as if they were dropping a freshly printed document.

2 - A fresh sheet of paper feeds through the machine and stops immediately upon exiting the last set of feed rollers. The support ears do not move to drop the paper.

3 - The "paper jam" error message returns with the paper setting on the support ears.

I have never observed this machine when it operated correctly so I am not familiar with the correct operating sequence but it seems to me that the support ears should retract as the last step. Any suggestions?

Rich S.

My d135 throws up a "scanner failure", "turn power off then on again" message when I go to copy a document. It is especially bad when using for the first time of the day.Any thoughts?

paper jam--HP officejet d135 by pbrooks259 (3/11/06 4:58 PM) reply + / -
Hi, Rich. I believe the following thread contains the answer; you probably need to replace the service station motor; I've repaired the same problem on 2-OJ 7100s, had same "paper jam" error, sometimes "carriage is stalled" or "carriage jam." Good luck.

I've been going through the same problem for several months now...took it to an "AUTHORIZED HP REPAIR DEALER"....they suggested I buy a new printer, it's too hard for them to get parts from HP.....Have you found any solution yet?

I was hoping to find answers here, but it seems that nobody has solved this common problem.

I opened my D135, and found a small brass spring lying somewhere out of place in the printer. I speculate it is to hold a sensor "up" in a position to sense paper, a paper tray, or something else to make it operate properly. I logged into HP Live Chat, and await a response. Has anyone else found this spring lying around when investigating a phantom "paper jam"?
