HP 2000C paper feed problems

HP 2000C paper feed problems by Extremist (2/27/04 9:27 PM) reply + / -
I just inhereted an HP 2000C printer that's having some strange and randon paper feed problems. It appears that the paper lifter does not allways bring the paper up to the pickup rollers. If it does lift the paper to the pickup rollers it usually will lift it a second time (on the printer self test). Does anyone have ANY idea what's going on with this printer and how I might be able to fix it? I've done searches in the forums and have seen two other folks with the same problem, but they got no replies... so I'm really hoping someone might have some advice. Thanks in advance!

HP hosts a business machine forum linked off it's support site..well attended by your peers.

I would bet there is an answer there. Registration is req'd but just a formality...hint: If you get an answer....award the giver with points...it's explained in the "rules".

I have the same problem. In my case if the paper supply gets down to about 1/4" of paper left, it won't pick it up. If I add too much paper it also won't pick it up. I went to the HP web site and did a search on the 2000C. Then using the "next" button, moved ahead to the 71-80 screen. Third from the bottom I found information on the DRIVE ROLLER CLEANING KIT (C4530-67910). I did not try this yet but I'm guessing this will solve my problem. FIXYOUROWNPRINTER.COM is one of the best web sites I have visited and bought several repair kits that worked great but I don't see where they offer a fix for this problem.

Thanks for the replies, I had at first thought that the rollers might be worn and may have been in need of a rejuvination, but upon closer inspection I saw that the lifter mechanism was not always lifting the paper up for the rollers to pick up at all. When the lifer mechanism works the rollers have no problem picking the paper up, but it has to be lifted in the first place.

I'll try the business machine forums mentioned by Rudy next, thanks guys! I'll let you folks know if I can find anything out on the HP site.

Well unfortunately there has been only one reply to my post out there and that person suggested that I clean the pickup rollers... I guess it's a very common problem of the pickup rollers becoming glazed but very uncommon for the lifting mechanism to go nuts...

I have begun to take the printer apart to try to see if there is a mechanical problem (broken gear, ect.) that I could possibly fix myself, but unfortunately I can't find a way to get the left side of the printer apart, that's where the control panel is. Does anyone have any information on how to totally disassemble this printer?

Thanks much! =)

There is an instructional cd available on this site. It has short disassembly and part replacement videos as well as troubleshooting and error codes on it.

Hi, haven't been in this site for a while, I use one of these machines as my default printer at work (Old and very worn Printer Engineer), and this problem is caused by a worn friction rivet in the paper pick-up mechanism. If you look at it closely you will see that the part has a hooked arm that is friction tight, this becomes less tight than it should be as it wears, the printer will try 3 times to pick the paper, each time trying harder, then it wiil give up. It can be rectified by taking apart the mechanism and tightening carefully with a hammer and being especially careful not to overdo it, the parts themselves are not available (at least not in the uk) Hope this helps as these are terrific printers.

Thanks Harvey!! Been looking for just that answer for weeks! I've got the mechanism taken apart quite a bit, working on gettin it off of the metal bottom as I assume that has to come off to gain acces to the pickup mechanism. I'll swing by here and give an update on how it goes. Again, Thanks Harvey!

www.printerworks.com has information available on the 2000c.
More important: They have parts ID diagrams that are useful for disassembly.
Go there, select 2000c, then locate and click "contents" then chose "illustrated parts ..diagrams"

Hope that helps
