Can someone tell me if I can download something to fix this, or is there a work around?

If you can't find a updated driver you can buy the print head cleaning kit from here http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kea0.html
For whatever reason both Apple and Microsoft have both decided to include built in drivers that are stripped down and offer little or no options to the user. The only option for most people is to try downloading updated drivers and try to get back what the operating system has taken away.
Some have even gone back to lower versions of their operating systems. Maybe Apple is aware of this driver issue and will release a update fixing this problem.

The ststus monitor should have the other utilities with it.
