This reset is an emailed submission. But the person who sent it in requested their name to be withheld.
This reset is for the S series printers. This does look like the same reset for the S9000 but has a little more detail.
Waste Ink Counter Reset.
(1) Turn off the printer.
(2) Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button.
(3) Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button two(2) more times in succession. Note:
you are still holding the POWER button). The printer's carriage will “reset" or move momentarily.
If the above was properly performed the printer will enter the "Service Mode".
(4) Press the RESUME button 4 times, this will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp will alternate (change) color with each key press.
1. Service/Factory test printout, including ink sensor check.
2. EEPROM - Info printout.
3. EEPROM – Initialization.
4. Reset the Waste ink counter.
5. Printer model setting. (More selections beyond this point – However it is best leave them unaltered – You have been warned!)
After selecting the desired mode (eg 4), press the POWER button to "set" the change, and return to the top of the
function selection menu. Press the POWER button again to restart the printer.

You can check the ziodes first. I have met some mainboards can't be repaired.

However, as Sangon said earlier, the printer after the reset will be recognized as i350 and I've to download the new driver for it. Can anyone suggest how to make it recognized as it's own original series ?.

7 orange blinking start, after I accident order the print imediatly after I finished ordering the printer to do head alignment or head cleaning.
And I look up the manual, it said that 7 blinking means something wrong with the printer head and I should bring to the service.
I almost buy new printhead which cost $80,( I bought i320 for $129 brand new at Office
Works. )
because in Canon website said please contact service (which at least cost $50) http://www.canon.com.au/support/troubleshooting.html
try to see that yourself when you do that error 7 orange LED blinking and priter stop operating.
I almost throw the i320 in the rubbish bin today.
I try for long time searching the net for solution, lucky for my printer, he some how make me search the net for the last time tonight and it is very happy ending, got the solution.

All refill inks work for cannon i320, the very good printer and easy to refill. save economy and environment. Canon should produce its own inks for refill, so they will earn some money back.????
Why let someoneelse earn money on that good machines CANON produce, but ..... service, unfair trading.

THANK YOU VERY, VERY, VERY, MUCH for helping me reset my i320.
I take good care of my personal equipment, including our Canon i320. Imagine my horror when this afternoon, it suddenly STOPPED working. The ink tanks won't even move to the center anymore when I open the cover.
Before I landed to this site, I was actually Googling for "how much is a Canon i320 Printer Head"
Again, THANK YOU VERY, VERY, VERY, MUCH.
If anyone's starting a signature campaign to sue Canon, count me in.

i'd like to know how you got your i320 reset again... i managed to get a copy of the erstwhile i320 service tool, but it doesn't really work on windows 98... if you do have a working one, or you managed to get all the "libraries" needed to run it, please, please tell me how to do it... it's such a waste to spend money on a new one when i already know that it isn't really broken...

The codes can be found by searching for "waste tank almost full"

-I'm quoting someone else's advice from an earlier posting in 2004
the corect steps:
1. Press and hold the POWER button
2. Turn off the printer by disconnecting the printer power cable,
3. turn on the printer (reconnect power cable) , still holding the POWER button
The indicator (L.E.D.) should be green.
4. Press and release the RESUME button , the indicator (L.E.D.) should be orange.
5. Press and release the RESUME button again, the indicator (L.E.D.) should be green.
6. Release both buttons.
7. Reconnect the printer cable. (I didn't have to disconnect in the first place)
8. And it should be reset.
You may find that win98 will then notice a "new" printer for which it will install software. You will then have two printers.
Delete the original one and rename the new one and things should be back to normal.
Of course you still have to "empty" the waste ink "tank" - try looking at http://www.neilslade.com/Papers/inkjetstuff11.html

Using the I320 Service Tool
1. setup your pc and install windows 98/98SE/ME. this is required to ensure that the i320 service tool will run.
2. after installation (which includes all drivers), install the appropriate printer driver for the printer. you can download it from canon's driver download site.
3. run the i320 service tool and follow the steps below.
EEPROM reset / Destination setting
4. install the print head, and while holding down the POWER button, plug in the AC cable (the green lamp lights up.)
5. while still holding down the POWER button, press the RESUME button twice and release the POWER button to enter the Service Mode (each press of the RESUME button changes the LED color: the LED lights in orange the first time, and in green at the second time.)
6. connect the printer to the computer, select "USB PORT" using the i320 service tool.
7. Destination setting
-other than Japan: select "1" in "SET DESTINATION"
-Japan: select "2" in "SET DESTINATION"
EEPROM reset
EEPROM is reset at the same time when the destination is set.

note: the "I/F dll can not be loaded" error means that you were running the i320 service tool without the printer's drivers installed on your computer. make sure that you have installed the printer driver installed first before attempting to reset the printer.

I tried the reset plan described in the earlier message of this thread and it did not work. I did find a similliar reset plan on a different website and It DID work for me and my S900 canon. The instructions I found are at the bottom of this page. Good luck to all. Hope it works for you too!!!

Banyak link2 yang dah bagi2 software gratis untuk tipe i320, i255/i355..., yaitu 2 software seperti yang ditawarkan/dijual oleh mas slamet, irwan, dan laen2.
Tapi perlu diketahui juga mas2, untuk setiap tipe printer ada softwarenya sendiri-sendiri lho...!
Apa yang dikatakan mas irwan diatas yang intinya ada 2 software untuk i255/355 dan iP1000/1500 tidak benar!
iP1000 ama iP1500 beda... keduanya ada softwarenya sendiri2, untuk i250/i255/Pixus350i/i350/i355 ada dalam satu software. Dan Software-software tersebut di atas berbeda untuk sistem operasi Windows 98 dan Windows XP.
Perlu diperhatikan untuk teknisi printer harus bisa menunjukkan hasil print out data EEPROM. Apabila anda menggunakan software tidak sesuai dengan tipe printer masing-masing maka address EEPROM akan cacat, dan anda tidak akan bisa mengeluarkan hasil print out data EEPROM.

Saya pernah pakai buat reset IP1000 dan berhasil, tapi yang IP1500 belum pernah saya coba karena belum ada printernya.
Setelah di-reset ingat inkpad nya tetap harus dibersihkan atau lama kelamaan printer anda akan bocor dan sisa pembuangan tinta akan mengenai mainboad printer anda.

Ini juga buat kebaikan kita bersama, kalo terus2an begini pihak canon mo bagaimana, otomatis dia akan merubah strategi untuk produk2 selanjutnya.
Sekali lagi yg 'penting'-nya di Belakang Layar.
Coba kita lihat dari kebanyakan forum luar, dimana pihak moderator atau yang lebih tahu berusaha untuk maen diluar... atau memberikan solusi lain yang lebih bisa terbuka.

Sebelumnya anda perlu melihat apakah Head cacat karena Overheating atau Clogging. Ciri2 overheat biasanya pada head BJC-2100 plastik terlihat mengelupas (ada rongga udara).

1. ambil 10 sheet toilet tisu
2. lipat dan semprot pake amonia sampai agak basah
(hati2 dngan bau nya)
3. tempelkan head dan angkat kembali, dikerjakan berulang2
4. terus bersihkan dengan alkohol.
Pada sebagian kasus, head akan langsung berfungsi kembali... kalo belm berhasil juga, coba di ulang kembali dari langkah 1...

| Re: canon i320- i255 waste error by irwannn (7/8/05 7:05 AM) | + / - | anda tidak cerita gimana kejadian awalnya sampai berubah type printernya. menurt hemat saya ganti saja divernya pake yg bj-f210 itu, anda bisa cari di web jepang, krn type itu kalo saya tidak salah bjc-2100 nya jepang, (maksdnya utk pasaran jepang), berjalan baik ko ga masalah. kalo memang pengen di ganti juga, coba reset epromnya (cara reset di search di tema bjc-2100) atau ganti eprom nya.

(1) Turn off the printer.
(2) Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button.
(3) Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button two(2) more times in succession, then release the POWER button. The printer's carriage will “reset" or move momentarily.
If the above was properly performed the printer will enter the "Service Mode".
(4) Press the RESUME button 4 times, this will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp will alternate (change) color with each key press.
1. Service/Factory test printout, including ink sensor check.
2. EEPROM - Info printout.
3. EEPROM – Initialization.
4. Reset the Waste ink counter.
5. Printer model setting. (More selections beyond this point – However it is best leave them unaltered – You have been warned!)
After selecting the desired mode (eg 4), press the POWER button to "set" the change, and return to the top of the function selection menu. Press the POWER button again to restart the printer.

setelah saya daptkan softw tesbut apa menurut anda harus saya kasih ke forum dan saya terngkan semua, cara pakai, kenapa sampai blink, dll. sedangkan orang (para teknisi) yang baca (forum) tinggal praktek dan menghasilkan uang. coba anda bayangkan kalo para teknisi perusahaan besar punya semua software service tool, perusahaannya tambah kaya teknisinya pada kasihaan. dan yang sangat penting tidak menumbuhkan perekonomian kelas bawah.
ini hanya sekedar renungan, saya tidak menyalahkan anda yang suka jual, karena saya juga penjual dan saya tidak menyalahkan juga yang suka membagi2kan ilmu secara gratis. terima kasih.

- install driver seperti biasa
- jalankan regedit atu reg editor lainnya
- cari kata MPUSBPRN
- hilangkan MP pada MPUSBPRN
- cari sampai gak ada lagi ;)
- jalankan general service tool (i320toolV100) seperti biasa
- ting! jalan lagi deh ip1000 nya
- uninstall driver, lalu install kembali...
mudahan bisa membantu.
nb. i320toolV100 cuma kenal prot USBPRNxx, sedangkan ip1000 make MPSUBPRNxx

printer yang di reset pun mestinya juga dibongkar lho, dibersihin pembuangan tintanya, kalo gak ya beresiko printer konslet, karena pada sebagian printer, canon ataupun epson, tinta yang berlebihan pada busa pembuangannya bisa tumpah dan mengenai motherboard printer, kalo tumpah keluar kan juga bisa bikin meja kotor... jadi buat para teknisi printer, kasih tau aja ke konsumen, me-reset sih gampang, bahkan pada sebagian besar printer cuma pake kombinasi tombol juga udah bisa, tanpa software!, yang sulit kan 'bongkar pasang' printernya...

menurut saya printer anda rusak bukan karena resetternya jelek atw ga ori ata yang lain2, pengalaman saya bling printer canon (hampir semua) memang kurang bagus kalo pake infusan (yang bagus tuh epson), emang itu lah maslah yang akan timbul, biasanya memang di awali dengan blink dulu dan kemudian macam2 maslah timbul. untuk code eror 5100, coba anda buka printernya, terus anda liat di sebelah kanan ada dudukan head, terus ada strip film dan bagian motor carriage, coba anda bersihkan dan pasang2kan lg dengan baik, biasanya jalan kembali ko, code eror 5100, itu kata service manualnya, error dibagian, purge unit, slit strip film, dll, yang paling berat boardnya musti diganti.

1. barangkali bukan patah2 ya mas ali, mungkin kalo bikin garis panjang sepanjang kertas a3, jadi ga lurus, jadi ada yang patahnya, itu biasanya disebabkan oleh strip film yang kotor, coba buka trus dibersihkan dengan alkohol.
2. memang betul printer hp juga mengenal yg namanya reset menggunakan tombol, biasanya terjadi setelah kita pake dan ganti2 catridge, pada suatu saat diganti catridge baru pun hp seri 9xx,hp 2500 dan 1180c akan tetp ngeblink.
setelah di reset baru bisa di pasang catridge yang baru.
untuk cartridge, kalo di canon kita mengenal dump memory of pumper, kalo di hp ada istilah dump memory of catridge, pengalaman saya catridge type 17,45, 78, 51, 56, 27, 28, dipasangkan di printer malah ngeblink seolah catridge rusak. apabila bentuk fisik masih bagus, mungkin itu karena dunmp memory of catridge. catridge2 tsb di atas bisa di reset, jadi jalan kembali... untuk cara2 reset anda bisa hubngi saya.

karena, produk ip1500 sudah punya software resetnya, jadi nanti technician canon ga ada gawean, terus rugi donk pabriknya...
pengganti nya adalah ip1600 yg mengadopsi teknik tinta model HP, dimana cartridge ama headprint menempel jadi satu, yg otomatis akan menaikkan harga cartridgenya (kayak HP)
so, anda tebak sendiri, canon mengklaim ip1500 adl produk gagal, ato canon mau ganti gaya (baca:proteksi) printer ??? :)

| Re: canon i320- i255 waste error by dedex (12/25/05 3:36 AM) | + / - | ikut nimbrung yach....., aku pernah dapet software canon lengkap buat benerin printer canon dari i255 sampai pixma ip1500 dari link yg ada di web ini tapi di forum lain (cuma lupa tuh forum yg mana) aku coba download ternyata file tersebut berupa file zip. setelah mau aku extrak ternyata ada paswordnya. terus aku coba masuk ke web (web dalam negeri kok)tempat aku download eh... ternyata aku disuruh transfer duwit (besarnya gak di target sih...)biar bisa dikasih password via e-mail. akhirnya aku coba acak passwordnya pakai archive zip password recovery (kebetulan aku punya versi fullnya) ehhh bisa. terus aku coba buat ngereset printer i255 ternyata sukses. terus aku coba ip1000 ternyata sukses juga (kedua printer tadi pakai 2 software yg berbeda tapi ada dalam satu paket file zip tadi). bagi yang butuh software ini coba aja download filenya terus brut aja ama archive zip password recovery. usaha dikit yach...... thanks. bravo free software...........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i320 waste ink counter reset.
1. Turn off the printer.
2. Press and hold the POWER button, turn on the printer.
3. The indicator should be green.
3. Press and release the RESUME button , the indicator should be orange.
4. Press and release the RESUME button again, the indicator should be green.
5. Release both buttons.
6.Connect the printer to PC.

Please, gimana sih caranya mereset ink level iP2200? Terus, cara ngrefil yang bener itu gimana, kok cartridge saya baru direfil kurang lebih 5 kali sdh jebol. Apa pake syringe yang ujungnya tumpul, atau yang tajam? Yang warna yellow dan cyan skrg malah gak mau direfil, baru dimasukin jarumnya sdh keliatan tintanya keluar kaya' sdh penuh. Print head sdh sy bersihkan dgn cairan2 pembersih print head jg gak ada hasil. Sy rendam dgn air panas jg gak berhasil (berhasil utk BJC-1000).
OK, kalo emang kamu sdg repot ya tdk apa2, tp sy sungguh berharap kmu bersedia tolong saya.

I own a canon s500 and worked fine for almost 3years,so I bought the pixma mp110. The s 500 suddenly stopped flashing 7 orange lights. Anyone knows how to reset this,,,the head is not clogged and its clean. The pixma mp110 after 3 months showed a full waste tank error and thanks to this site i cleaned and resetted the printer. After a few prints the head clogged and I managed to clean it open. After this I bought new cartridges and now it gives me a (WRONG CARTRIDGE ERROR)
Anyone please knows if I can reset or fix this? Please help me because I really am lost with this!!

Canon Waste Ink Tank Reset Procedures
Canon GENERIC "S" SERIES RESET CODE
Waste Ink Counter Reset.
(1) Turn off the printer.
(2) Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button.
(3) Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button two(2) more times in
succession. Note: you are still holding the POWER button). The printer's carriage will "reset"
or move momentarily. If the above was properly performed the printer will enter the
"Service Mode".
(4) Press the RESUME button 4 times, this will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp
will alternate (change) color with each key press.
1. Service/Factory test printout, including ink sensor check.
2. EEPROM - Info printout.
3. EEPROM - Initialization.
4. Reset the Waste ink counter.
5. Printer model setting. (More selections beyond this point - However it is best leave them unaltered - You have been warned!)
After selecting the desired mode (eg 4), press the POWER button to "set" the change, and return to the top of the function selection menu. Press the POWER button again to restart the printer.

Getting more and more nervous these days as surely the eight orange flashes of the "Waste ink tank almost full" error will catch up with my 2-year-old Canon i6500 and shut it down.
Pleased therefore to spot the waste ink counter reset for the i6500 in amongst your massive entry at the end of this thread.
One query though about steps 3 & 4: when is the POWER button released?
I'm guessing that there might be a "then release POWER" at the end of step 4 - as you have at the end of step 3 of your i850, i950, S600 entry?

Bisa dipakai tetapi hanya beberapa kali ngeprint saja. selanjutnya pas dipakai ngeprint 2 halaman trus berhenti. Mungkin ada yang berbagi pengalaman?

Aku pernah dapat software yang ditawarkan gratis tapi masih dipassword, untuk dapat password harus membayar dulu.
Aku tidak mau bayar dan tidak mau kirim uang, karena program itu bisa aku bongkar bongkar abis.
Nah sekarang, yang mau nggaya, nulung tapi buntutnya mau minta duit. Jangan sombong, emangnya kita-kita orang ndak bisa bongkar.
Sekarang mbak dan mas cari dulu software sure zip atau guaranteed zip, setelah itu silahkan dibongkar abis.

Saya ingin menjelaskan mengenai waste tank yang ada dalam printer-printer Canon.
Pada setiap printer inkjet Canon, terdapat lembaran-lembaran spons yang lebarnya hampir selebar printer yang dinamai waste-ink container (atau disebut juga waste tank). Waste tank ini ditempatkan dibawah roller-feed. Waste tank terhubung dengan tempat parkir head yang terletak di sebelah kanan printer, melalui sebuah selang plastik (beberapa tipe printer lama menggunakan selang karet). Anda bisa melihat waste tank ini jika Anda membuka printer Anda. Tentu saja, jika Anda melakukannya, maka garansi PT Datascrip atas printer Anda akan hangus.
Anyway, spons ini berfungsi untuk menampung setiap tinta yang dikeluarkan printer selama printer melakukan cleaning, deep cleaning, warming up, dan interstitial cleaning (proses cleaning untuk menjamin kesempurnaan kualitas cetak, yang dilakukan printer secara otomatis pada saat atau sesaat setelah Anda mencetak).
Di dalam firmware yang terletak di motherboard printer, Canon memasang sebuah sistem untuk menghitung jumlah tinta yang terbuang selama printer melakukan proses cleaning, deep cleaning, warming up, dan interstitial cleaning tersebut. Jumlah ini diakumulasi berdasarkan rumus:
(estimasi jumlah tinta yang terbuang x jumlah proses cleaning, deep cleaning, interstitial cleaning)
Setelah nilai akumulasi waste-ink mencapai ambang-batas tertentu yang telah ditetapkan (nilai ambang batas ini berbeda pada setiap printer), maka firmware printer akan mengirimkan data ke driver printer bahwa waste-ink container telah penuh. Firmware juga akan menolak setiap perintah yang dikirimkan ke printer. Untuk menyelesaikan masalah ini, maka waste-ink container harus diganti dan counter waste-ink yang ada di printer harus direset.
Jika Anda mengirimkan printer Anda ke service center resmi PT Datascrip, maka service operator PT Datascrip akan melakukan 2 operasi tersebut diatas. Service operator tidak hanya akan mereset waste-ink counter pada printer Anda, tetapi waste-ink containernya sendiri akan diganti dengan yang baru.
Memang, Anda dapat saja hanya mereset waste-ink counter pada firmware menggunakan software2 pihak ketiga yang link downloadnya telah disebutkan sebelumnya dalam thread ini. Tetapi hal ini tidak menyelesaikan masalah utamanya, yaitu bahwa waste-ink containernya benar-benar sudah penuh dan harus diganti.
Jika waste-ink container sudah penuh tetapi Anda tidak menggantinya, maka ada kemungkinan bahwa tinta yang ada di dalam waste tank akan menetes keluar dan mengotori meja atau furnitur Anda. Canon tidak ingin digugat oleh konsumen dengan alasan telah mengotori furnitur konsumen, sehingga dipasanglah sebuah sistem waste-ink counter tersebut... :-)
Konsekuensi lain jika waste-ink container tidak diganti adalah bahwa tinta dari waste tank yang sudah penuh dapat merembes ke mainboard printer Anda, dan mengakibatkan printer Anda rusak. Salah satu gejalanya antara lain LED printer berkedap-kedip hijau-oranye bergantian secara terus menerus.
Karena itu, saya pribadi menyarankan agar Anda membawa printer Anda ke tempat service resmi PT Datascrip, atau ke tempat servis printer pihak ketiga yang kredibel, untuk memperbaiki error waste-ink container full.
Semoga post saya dapat membantu Anda mengerti tentang mengapa Canon memasukkan sebuah sistem waste-ink counter.

1. Software reset yang digunakan di service center PT Datascrip asli berasal dari Canon, dan BUKAN software reset yang bisa Anda dapatkan di www.printersiam.com atau para "retailer"nya. Software ini installernya berukuran 49MB dan berisi semua driver service-mode printer Canon. Software ini diupdate secara reguler oleh Canon, dan hanya diedarkan secara eksklusif kepada PT Datascrip dan service point resminya. Mohon maaf sekali saya tidak bisa memberikan software tersebut, karena hak cipta software ini dimiliki sepenuhnya oleh Canon Jepang dan Terms of Agreementnya menyatakan bahwa penggandaan ilegal dalam bentuk apapan tidak diperbolehkan. I could be fired you know ;-)
2. Jika Anda mengalami masalah firmware printer yang berubah setelah Anda mereset printer tersebut (misal dari i255 menjadi i320), tidak usah khawatir. Anda hanya perlu menguninstall driver yang lama dan menginstall driver baru yang sesuai dengan tipe printer yang berubah. Silakan cek situs resmi Canon untuk mendownload driver yang sesuai dengan printer tersebut. Untuk daerah Asia, silakan cek di www.canon-asia.com. Anda juga dapat merequest driver tersebut ke Datascrip.

This reset worked great: (I did substitute unplug for step 1 and plug in for the second part of step two). Printer is working again!
i320 waste ink counter reset.
1. Turn off the printer.
2. Press and hold the POWER button, turn on the printer.
3. The indicator should be green.
3. Press and release the RESUME button , the indicator should be orange.
4. Press and release the RESUME button again, the indicator should be green.
5. Release both buttons.
6.Connect the printer to PC.
7.Open General Tool software,choose ¡°USB PORT¡±.
8.Choose ¡°SET DESTINATION 1 ¡±,OK!

1. Unplug power and USB.
2. Open door and hold power button.
3. Connect power.
4. Close door, then release power button.
or Step 1: Manual Temporary
1. Turn off the printer. And disconnect the printer cable.
2. Press and hold the POWER button, turn on the printer.
3. The indicator (L.E.D.) should be green.
4. Press and release the RESUME button , the indicator (L.E.D.) should be orange.
5. Press and release the RESUME button again, the indicator (L.E.D.) should be green.
6. Release both buttons.

Caranya:
1. Pencet dan tahan tombol powernya
2. Kemudian masukan kabel power(listrik-nya).
3. Setealah powermasuk lepas tombol power dan lansung tekan 2X tombol reseter (paper feed) yang ada di sampingnya kemudian tekan tombol power satu kali.
sudah itu printer bisa dipakai lagi, selamat mencoba.

1. Disconnect Power cable, press and hold Power button.
2. Connect Power cable, the led should be green.
3. Press Resume button two times, led first should be yellow, than green again.
4. Release Power button.
5. This point printer starts moving the head, and the led is blinking, when all this stuff done, the led should be constantly green.
And here comes the difference:
Now for step 6. Simply PRESS Power button 1 time. The printer should do some head movements, and fucks the paper tray, it should be no paper in it, or it could stuck :D
After all the head and tray fucking done, the led lights green. At this time, when the printer is connected to computer, the computer shows New Hardvare message and detects the printer as a copy of the original, when u turn off and on the printer, Windows should detect the old printer connected, not the copy, last time.
I don't know exactly what is this, but it resets ink counter, and printers are working fine. It may be some full printer reset or something, this is what I really dunno, but it works without software ;)

I have been getting through all tanks like you would not believe. Then this dreaded message about the used tank, i was going to throw the printer out until I surfed the web and found this posting so hopefully I can continue. Have you any idea why the colour is tinted pink until I do a deep clean please.?

Does anyone know how to use the PG-50 ink cartridge in the IP-1600 printer?
When I try to print with the PG-50 cartridge, the driver gives an error about not compatible ink cartridge being used and refuses printing. With PG-40 it works fine.
There must be a way to use it, because many shops are selling the PG-50 cartridge as IP-1600 compatible item.
Anyone help?
