Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers.

Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Neill (1/3/04 12:46 PM) +25 + / -
I have two models of Canon printers. An S520 and an S820. I'd sure appreciate it if someone could give me the proceedure for each (possibly the same for both)for resetting the Waste Ink counter for these models. Canon loves to change the proceedure to keep us for doing our own maintenance. Thanks, Neill (Oregon)

The S line is the same AFAIK, and can be found be searching this site and/or google.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Sue (1/6/04 6:59 PM) + / -
Help, I just got the waste tank error for my printer. I need a schematic for a Canon BJC 1000 and how do I replace this "blotter" or do I need to. Can I just reset the waste ink counter and keep using the same blotter. I have been quoted a price of $29 for the replacement blotter. Is this for real! Planned obsolescence built in to the printer.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Wes (1/6/04 7:07 PM) +3 + / -
You might try 2manuals.com for the service manual but here is the reset code for the BJC 1000.

1: Remove Cartridge
2: Unplug the AC Power Cord
3: Hold down the RESUME button
4: Release RESUME after plugging in the AC Power cord.
5: Press the RESUME once within 5 seconds and release the RESUME .
6: Press and HOLD RESUME for two seconds or more and release it.
7: Press and HOLD RESUME for two seconds or more and release it.
8: Unplug AC Power Cord to set data.

I hope this info helps.

Wes.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Sue (1/7/04 12:02 AM) + / -
Thanks Wes, this worked like a charm and I'm back in business. Do I have to replace the
blotter or just keep resetting the counter when I get this message?

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Wes (1/7/04 12:50 AM) +1 + / -
You should clean or replace the pad at some point but most of the time you can get away with resetting the ink counter a few times before you need to clean or replace the pad.

I'm glad the reset worked for you.

Wes.

Wes - I found your site through the yahoo search engine. Lucky for me! I was having the same problem as Sue and your instructions saved my printer from the scrap yard.

Thanks!!!

The waste-ink counter for the BJ F900, F890, F700, F500, S900, S820, S750 and S520 are all reset in the same manner.

Turn off the printer.

Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button.

Release the RESUME button, then press and release the RESUME button two more times in succession. (youre still holding the POWER button during this). The printer mechanics will move momentarily.

You are now in Service mode.

Pressing the RESUME key will select a function; for example, pressing RESUME 4 times will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp will alternate color with each key press.

1. service/factory test printout, including ink sensor check
2. EEPROM info printout
3. EEPROM initialization
4. Clear the waste-ink counter
5. Printer model setting. (more selections beyond this- leave this alone)

After selecting mode, press the POWER button to commit the change, and return to the top of the function selection menu. Pressing the POWER button again turns off the printer for a restart.

If you have a defective printer head, your power lamp may flash during the service mode key-in, and info printouts may not work. In this case, clearing the waste-ink counter may not fix your problem.

Here's a Reset Procedure ... The problem was if error occured the unit would halt further activity so printing was suspended ... the particular error was the photo ink tank was empty and it took awhile to select everything so I could print with Black only ... photo ink error needed clearing ...
Canon BJC-8000 Overall Reset Procedure (No paper in tray) to clear errors etc
1. Disconnect powercord, Hold Down Power and Resume Buttons
2. Connect the powercord and unit will turn on
3. Release Power Button, then click it once
4. Release both Power and Resume Buttons
5. Green Power light will be on steady, amber Resume light went off
6. Then at about 1 second intervals ... click Resume, click Resume, then click Power...In a few seconds Startup Cycle Machinations will occur and finish
7. Do a Button Power off ... a Button Power on wont work ...
unplug then replug power ... Button Power on / off , Machinations OK,
error cleared now !

2: Hold Resume button then press and hold POWER, the beeper will sound once.
3: Hold POWER and release RESUME
4: Press RESUME twice
5: When the indicator lights steady, press RESUME three(3) times. The indicator should be orange.

black not working by Thomas Porter (6/5/04 6:39 PM) + / -
My Canon S520 printer quit printing in black. I've replaced the black cartritge, but no fix. Thinking I have to buy a brand new printer head. Any tips?

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by mike (6/6/04 8:33 PM) + / -
I have a BJC6000 that no longer prints black. I have tried all the reset codes and I think I got them right, but I am not certain. Either way, I still cannot print black. My black ink is new.

F30 Wrong Cartridge Error Message by Brian (7/23/04 12:36 PM) +3 + / -
Here is my solution to the "Wrong Cartridge" error message I got on my F30 Multipass. So far it is working.

I got this message when I removed the printhead to refill the ink cartridges. All of the color cartridges were empty, so rather than remove them, I took the printhead out. I filled the cartridges, then put the print head back in. I got the "Set Alignment" message and did that. All was well for a day until I started getting the "Wrong Cartridge" message.

I tried one of the power reset/hold down the buttons in the previous messages, which didn't work. On a newsgroup post from 2003, I saw a message to remove the front grey control panel, remove and re-seat the white ribbon cable. That didn't work either.

Since removing and installing the print head caused the error message, I decided to focus on a bad connection condition. From years of electronic repair experience, a number of problems can be caused due to a poor connection. I made sure that the gold pads on the print head were clean. I used the eraser from a brand new pencil to clean them up. I also *carefully* used the eraser head to clean the wire finger connections on the sliding carriage, where the print head makes contact. NOTE: these fingers are very delicate; I used a "downward motion" of the eraser moving across the wires to gently clean them. The idea here is to remove the slightest film of oxidation to enable a clean connection between the finger wires and the print head contacts. When I installed the print head back into the printer, I got the "Set Alignment" message again, and the printer is working.

Brian

I have a Canon i850 and I'm getting the waste tank full message as well. Apparently, nobody has been able to figure out the reset code for this printer. Where are the Canon printer experts?

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Wes (8/24/04 11:17 AM) +1 + / -
There is not a regular reset for the i series printers. You need the service software to reset the protection counter. Where are the people who know how yo use the search feature?

I have a Cannon S630. I followed the reset procedures. That went well, but now when the printer is turned on, it goes thorugh normal procedure, then the print heads stop at center and the power light flashes green non stop. If I ignore the problem long enough, the printer will make a constant beep. It's almost like the printer thinks the cover is open. I cleaned the contacts for the lid closed receptors (Sorry I can't think of the proper name), but it made no difference. What is going on? Do you know what more I should check? Help.

Hi, A few weeks ago I stupidly refilled the Megatoner ink cartridges (very inexpensive) on my Canon S9000 several times during a big print run. I thought I was going through too much ink too fast, but I was a man on a mission. Now I'm getting 8 blinks and the code reset doesn't do anything. I didn't know such a thing as a waste ink tank existed, but it's not surprising if it's full. Can I empty the waste ink tank myself? I don't know what to do next. Thanks for any help.
Arthur

Hi, this is Arthur to add one thing to my question above, I must be color blind, I have no idea what color the blinking pilot light button is. I know it's not blue, that's all.

Not after the first time. If you have to reset the second time it would be wise to clean the tank first

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by indy (3/31/05 10:58 AM) + / -
Here is the solution to all the S520 (and related 750, 820 and 900) printer waste tank and orange flash problems.

Each print job wastes a bit of ink in the post print cleaning sequence. The post print job noise you hear is a little pump cleaning the heads and moving the waste ink into an absorbent pad (the infamous "waste ink tank") located underneath the printer frame (when new, the pad is white). The machine keeps track of how many print jobs you do and eventualy decides that you need to replace the pad since it is theoretically saturated and will not absorb more ink. The excess will begin to fill the bottom of the printer. At that time the machine starts the seven orange flashes to indicate "tank full" and will no longer print. Resetting the count will allow you to continue, however, you are now at risk of collecting ink under the frame, with a nasty potential to run all over your rug/clothes/the dog/etc. Thus the pad needs either cleaning (not very effective) or replacement (relatively easy).

Call ABC Electronics, a Canon dealer in San Francisco (415 550 3100), and speak to John, a real nice guy and very cooperative. Not only will he give you the code sequence to reset the "tank full" state, he will sell you a replacement pad for the machine (this is the "waste ink tank"). The cost (3/29/05) is about $5 plus shipping. Although the pad can be removed and cleaned (sort of), the ink is comprised of very fine particles and consequentlty it is impossible to completely clean the pad, and very wasteful of water to boot.

The difficulty to replace the pad is akin to replacing a toaster oven element, a job for any 5 year old. Just be careful. Power the machine and open the lid to move the head carriage to the center. Then remove power cord. Remove the print carriage from the carrier (not the tanks, the whole carriage assembly), by lifting up the gray lever. Put a piece of cellophane tape (musn't use the word Scotch) over the head openings to protect them from damage and lay the assembly on its side. The ink will not run out nor will it dry out.

The head can be cleaned with filtered water after removing the cartidges, just be extremely careful not to damage the head surfaces (look at them with a 10x lens to see just how small the openings are and how easy it is to damage them).

There are four slots in the back with tabs inside that must be depressed in order to free the top. There are two tabs underneath that must be pushed in to free the power inlet box (it slides up and back, watch out for the wire connector when the box comes free). There are two screws that hold the frame to the bottom, one on each side near the back corner of the frame. They are gold with a washer head. Remove those and lift and wiggle the frame up and out to the rear.

On the right side of the head travel path, where the head sits when not printing, are two small pads, one square and one rectangular. They are supposed to be white, probably they are black. Carefully pluck those out with tweezers and wash them (very inky!!). Be careful of the little plastic shields near the pads.

In the chassis box is a narrow thick pad on top of the waste pad. This does not seem to collect ink (at least in mine it did not). Remove this and then the waste pad. You can try to clean the waste pad (use warm filtered water since you need to get rid of the ink particles in the pad), however, it is a big waste of water and a hell of a lot easier to throw it away and put a new one in (get it from John, or perhaps from another cooperative Canon dealer nearer to you, some are downright nasty when asked to sell a replacement pad).

I have done the above procedure twice over the years and I essentially get a new printer each time. The Canon service manual can be purchased from "2manuals.com" as a PDF for $6.99. It gives you all the service notes and warnings, however, no disassembly procedures. A good book to have.

In general, I think the S520 is a good printer, perhaps a bit wasteful of ink but that may be the price you pay for photo quality prints, IMHO. And it is fast enough for government work :))

ciao
Indy

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Herbert (4/1/05 6:01 AM) -1 + / -
Hi, Indy! My grateful thanks for your explicit, clear and detailed instructions for dismantling and dealing with the waste ink pad. But my Canon is an i350. Before dismantling, can you tell me whether your instructions apply to my model also (for, if not, I might screw it all up, knowing me!). Also, Canon agents here are quite unhelpful, so I would like to try John in San Fran for a new pad and for the reset code. But getting a detailed reset code
over the 'phone can lead to mistakes (and one would be enough!), so do you have an email address for John? (I assume that you do not have the reet code or you would not have refered me to John.) Many thanks. Herbert.

Thank you very much. The reset code for ip3000 worked a treat and the website is very helpful.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by Anonymous (4/3/05 3:34 PM) + / -
The website for ABC is www.abctechinc.com. As I said, John there was very cooperative and not only sold me the printer waste ink pad but was willing to give me the reset codes. However, I had already purchased the service manual from 2manuals.com which gives all the codes for all canon printers of that series. Check them out. They have a lot of books there (download PDF), all cheap. So, spring for less than a sawbuck and sleep well at night.

i550 waste tank reset, maybe others. by Timbo (4/13/05 5:21 PM) + / -
I tried all the above fixes for my i550, having washed the pads out. But it still wouldn't work.
Having an evening of trying, I eventually got it running by the following means :-

1. From power off, HOLD down the RESUME button.
2. Press and HOLD down the POWER button, RELEASE the RESUME.
3. STILL HOLDING the POWER button, PRESS and RELEASE the RESUME button 4 times.
4. RELEASE the POWER button, and PRESS it again to turn off the machine.
5. Turn on and try.

I can't remember whether the printer was connected to the PC at the time, it may be worth trying both ways.

here are the steps to make it a permanent reset. please follow these instructions carefully as you might end up doing the wrong thing and end up not resetting your printer.

Using the I320 Service Tool
1. setup your pc and install windows 98/98SE/ME. this is required to ensure that the i320 service tool will run.
2. after installation (which includes all drivers), install the appropriate printer driver for the printer. you can download it from canon's driver download site.
3. run the i320 service tool and follow the steps below.

EEPROM reset / Destination setting
4. install the print head, and while holding down the POWER button, plug in the AC cable (the green lamp lights up.)
5. while still holding down the POWER button, press the RESUME button twice and release the POWER button to enter the Service Mode (each press of the RESUME button changes the LED color: the LED lights in orange the first time, and in green at the second time.)
6. connect the printer to the computer, select "USB PORT" using the i320 service tool.
7. Destination setting
-other than Japan: select "1" in "SET DESTINATION"
-Japan: select "2" in "SET DESTINATION"
EEPROM reset
EEPROM is reset at the same time when the destination is set.

you can download the i320 Service Tool from this address:
http://www.it0577.com/yezmao/i320.exe

note: the "I/F dll can not be loaded" error means that you were running the i320 service tool without the printer's drivers installed on your computer. make sure that you have installed the printer driver first before attempting to reset the printer.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by bmoffitt (5/5/05 9:54 PM) + / -
On my i850, I execute the sequence to go into service mode, but it doesn't go. What happens is this:

1. Printer off
2. Hold down "Reset," press "Power"
3. Release "Reset," press "Reset" twice (light goes from green to orange on first press, then back to green on second press)
4. Release both "Power" and "Reset"
5. Printer cycles briefly, then goes back to flashing long green, 8 short oranges, long green, ad nauseum.

When I press the "Reset" button again, the light glows orange and changes color as if it is following my will, but when I hit the "Power" button again nothing happens.

According to the manual, 8 flashes means the waste tank is full... could there actually be a mechanical problem?

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon p by terryt (5/6/05 10:34 AM) + / -
bmoffitt:

You should try the procedure with the print head removed.
I had the same problem with an s9000 that wouldn't reset untill I removed the print head.

If it works just put the print head back in and see what happens.

You might have to press the power button 3 or more times to get the printer to shut off.

If the printer doesn't off just unplug the power cord for a few seconds and plug it back in.

Re: Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Cano by bmoffitt (5/8/05 11:11 AM) + / -
Terry-

I tried it; when I got into the diagnostic mode (after pressing the "Reset" button twice and releasing the "Power" button) the green light just flashed incessantly (this is different from the behavior when the printhead is installed, when it flashes green, then orange incessantly).

Very mysterious... I'd love to hear some ideas, 'cuz I'm out...

Thanks anyway!!!

Re: Paper blank by Anonymous (5/13/05 11:46 PM) + / -
I think your printhead is clogged,
Usually you can take that printhead and 'wash' it with warm water, only a little. Never touch the electronic circuit in printhead, never wash it.
Do it for about 5 minutes. And then give it centrifugal movement to clean the remain ink in printhead
Change the BCi-24 cartridge with the original one, put in printhead.
Run cleaning for about 3 times.
Finished

I use this method for about 3 IP1000 and all succeeded

I'm not sure if my Canon s630 was flashing 7 or 8 times.. but it was the ink waste thing.. now it is fixed because I listened to the guy waaaaaaay up at the top who said to go to http://canonhelp.freehttp.com just select your printer and it will show you how to do it.... as for the last guy who posted: ALL canon S printers use the same reset.. so try what they listed.. and if it dosnt work it isnt the ink waste problem... or you are just doin it wrong.

OK, after just ignoring the problem for several weeks, I finally took it up again this morning and successfully reset the waste tank counter on my Canon i850.

On the subject of "just doin it wrong" (smiles to SuckaMC!), I found out that it makes a big difference to unplug the machine before you start the operation. It appears to contain some big capacitors that keep the machine "mostly on" even if it's "off," and the only way to turn it "really off" is to unplug it, then attempt to turn it on (while it's unplugged) to drain the capacitors. Then you can start the reset procedure by pressing down the "Power" and "Resume" buttons while plugging the machine in (I have three hands, how 'bout you??? ;->).

Geez... now, to get back to the original problem, that the printer isn't printing with 50% of the nozzles...

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by watsonk (6/7/05 10:52 PM) + / -
Thank you very much!

I followed your provided key sequence and was able to reset the "Check Printer" alarm in my MultiPass F30 printer. It is very close. The only thing is that there is no [OK] key on the F30 printer. I had to press [ON/OFF] key instead. After the waste tank full counter was reset, my printer works normally again.

I also have a MultiPass MP700 printer. I am sure that the key sequence will come in handy someday. Similarly, there is no [OK] key on the MultiPass MP700 printer.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by mastewart (6/19/05 11:31 AM) + / -
I got the manual from the company in San Francisco listed about halfway through this thread. Called them, spoke to someone named Dave and he send manual as a pdf. Warning: it is a huge file, may choke your mail server.
I didn't get much help from Canon and am thinking I will replace with a b&w laser printer (or possibly color laser printer) as all the service techs I've spoken with over this problem indicate that ink jet printers have more problems and are more likely to have board failures.
Any other ideas for final ways to troubleshoot my Check Printer problem would be greatly appreciated. I did not find anything resembling a waste ink tank reset code in the manual.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by gojollybill (6/19/05 7:24 PM) + / -
Well, thank you for the input mastewart. I did solve the problem of the waste tank error at last. I went to the link where you can get pages from manuals for all the popular printers -- the service manual pages. I found on page 7 of the Canon S600 manual that they described the service codes including the waste tank counter reset. I noted that the procedure was much more clearly laid out and was a bit different than those given in the various posts on this forum. So when I followed the procedure from the service manual it all worked just fine. So I reset the waste counter, re initialized the EPROM, and reset the market code. Now the printer works like new. My suggesting if you are having trouble resetting the waste tank counter for a printer, go to the service manuals and download the appropriate page for the real scoop.

Thanks for reading
Bill

I only have a service manual for Canon F50, F30. What is the link for service manual pages that got you to manual for the F60?
That would be extremely helpful?

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by mastewart (6/20/05 8:48 AM) + / -
Mastewart seeking info on the manual links. I only have a manual for Canon F30-F50, which does not appear to be the same as what gojollybill found. I would very much like to try same procedure if I could locate this manual (or just post the relevant clips).

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by gojollybill (6/21/05 1:32 AM) + / -
Hi Mastewart and Anonymous
Sorry to be so obscure about where to find the manuals AND I see that also I mentioned the wrong page in the Canon S600 Service Manual. For the S600 the waste tank and other service mode resets are covered on page 2-29 which is Section 7 of the service manual.

Now where are the manuals? Go to the top of this forum and look right below the title "fixyourownprinter.com". You will see the word REFERENCE. Put your mouse pointer on REFERENCE and when you do the next line will change and will have the following -
Cross Reference | Error Codes | Guides | Manuals | Publications | Drivers | Links

So then click on Manuals. That should take you to a page for Service Manuals. At the left are links to the brand of printer. If you click on one of those links you will be able to access the pages of the manual in either html or pdf.

Please note that I have been working with a Canon S600, not an F30, F50 etc. I see in going thru the Canon manuals on this site that there is no listing for the Canon F series printers. Perhaps going to 2manuals.com you could buy a copy for something around $6.99 from what I have read.

Waste Tank near full Canon MultiPass F20 by Desperate Person (6/21/05 5:32 PM) +1 + / -
I have a Cannon Multipass F20, and it's giving me a message that says "WASTE INK NEAR FULL". How do I get rid of it?

Someone HELP!!!!!!!

Re: No Subject by Anonymous (6/21/05 7:57 PM) + / -
I have the same exact problem. My printer says "put in cartridge" and will do nothing. Did you find out how to fix it?

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by gojollybill (6/22/05 12:07 AM) + / -
Well, the remedy for Anonymous's (both of them) and for Desperate Person is the same. Get the REAL SERVICE MANUAL PAGES. So first go to the top of this forum as per my remarks in my post about 3 or 4 up the forum from here and look for the manual for your printer. If it is there retrieve the page having to do with the waste tank reset or service codes. Then FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY and I think it will work. Did for me. BUT,
If you don't find the manual here then go to 2manuals.com and look for the manual for your printer there and order/pay for it (sorry about that, I was lucky and found the manual without paying).
The service code procedures are a bit tricky but if you read them carefully -- in the manual not in the posts in this forum -- I think you may succeed. I hope. Good luck.
Bill

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Desperate Person (6/22/05 5:41 AM) + / -
Bill,

I appreciate the info. Unfortunately the manual is not available on either web site for the Canon Multipass F20. Are there other sources for manuals you are aware of that would contain the reset codes?

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by gojollybill (6/22/05 4:13 PM) + / -
Hi Desperate Person, Bill here gojollybill

Well heck. Sorry to hear that about the manuals. Well there IS one other thing you may try, I think it may work. There is a Canon Service Center in San Francisco. Way up the forum there is a post about calling there to get waste tank pads. for various Canon Printers. To save you the time picking thru all the posts here is the info in summary:

Phone Number ABC Electronics, 415 550 3100. Ask for John who is supposed to nice and cooperative. He can give you the code sequence to reset the "tank full" error. AND he can sell you the pads for the waste tank for about $5 plus shipping. This post went on to tell how to replace the pads. It was posted by "indy" on 3/31/05. I believe that the info is for the S series printers but John may be able to help you in regard to putting in the pad(s).

I see a lot of requests in the thread about F series printers but not too many answers. Be sure to scan thru all the posts though because there were some explanations.
Regards,
Bill

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by mastewart (6/23/05 11:33 AM) + / -
Now I've worked my way through troubleshooting my Canon F60 to the directions:
Check the paper sensor arm for any kind of obstruction that would keep it from freely moving in and out of the sensor.
I have the manual and have crawled all over the machine but darned if I can find the paper sensor arm. It should be in the paper path somewhere?? Clues??

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon p by gojollybill (6/23/05 6:57 PM) + / -
Well, Mastewart, I wish I could help with the Sensor Arm thing. That is a new one on me, I did not run into that on my S600 printer. Hopefully someone else who is reading the posts here can help. The trick of course is to find the paper sensor itself. Sounds like it must be some gadget that is next to the paper feed path and can tell the presence of paper or lack of paper. And it has an "arm" that moves in and out of it. Could be buried in the works somewhere. I would hope that the manual would somewhere describe the sensor and whatever maintenance it needs. Of course that is why manuals are frustrating.

Good luck. Hopefully someone will read and take pity before too long.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by Denny Conway (7/8/05 10:02 AM) + / -
rocky: A Service Error where all LED's/Lights are flashing at the same time [some models the lights will be alternatly blinking], or where you get an "Unknown Error Message", or a "General Error Message", or even a message telling you that "Parts inside your printer at the end of their service life, contact your dealer for replacement", or "Parts inside your printer require maintenance or replacement, call your service company", is normally a Maintenance Request Error. The maintenance request error is actually a Waste Ink Ink Pad Error and usually your remedy is to replace the waste ink pad/pads with a new one/ones and then reset the Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter. If you just reset the counter and don't replace the pads, then your printers old pads will eventually overflow and normally start leaking ink out the bottom of your printer. You can see exploded parts diagrams for most epson ink jet printers and can also check on possible parts ordering, by Compass Micro Inc, at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm . Some people actually wash the ink out of the old pads, by holding them under running cold water. Then they simply dry them out and reinstall them back into their printer. The choice on what to actually do, is yours to make. I would at least recommend getting that waste ink counter reset procedure and performing it first, to make sure your printer will then work. You may be able to reset that waste ink counter, using the SSC SERVICE UTILITY available at http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/sscserve.exe . Unfortunatly, that utility only works using a windows operating system. You can check and see if your particular epson printer is compatible, by going to http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html ...Here's some previously posted info that may also help. "NEWUSER Re: Epson Error and power light flashing by newuser (4/5/05 11:10 AM). To reset the error download this utility: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html . Once installed run the program and configure it, closing the main window and right clicking the icon in the tray area, from there choose Configure and select your printers model. After configuration, select Protection counter -> Reset protection counter, it should be able to clear the error message. If that does not actually work, then the only suggestion I can give is to perform a soft-reset before resetting counter. Remove also the Epson status agent, it detects errors and it may hinder communication with the printer, then reboot your pc. As profile choose the one sscservice didn't use after autoconfiguration, check for printer response. Remember that you should also clean the waste ink pads located at the printer bottom. For a more in-depth procedure by NEWUSER, go to his site at http://myprinter.altervista.org/simplefaq/mysimplefaq.html#counter "....Unfortunatly, that ssc service utility may not actually work on all epson printers and not on all operating systems, so you will have to check it out for yourself. Just in case that source does not work: You may actually need to go on-line to try and locate the actual reset procedure, to buy and download to reset that waste ink counter...Good Luck! Denny Conway

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by Denny Conway (7/8/05 10:07 AM) + / -
rocky: Unfortunatly, you did not actually tell us what make and model of printer you actually had and of course the previous information only applies to EPSON PRINTERS. If you have a different make and model of printer, then you will need to repost your message, listing just what type of printer you have. If you were to open a new & separate message board, listing your printer make, model and a short description of its problem, in the actual SUBJECT LINE, you might have a better chance on getting a reply. Especially from someone that is framiliar with your particular model and possibly its problem...IT'S EASY TO POST A NEW SEPARATE MESSAGE: Just go to the "fixyourownprinter.com" web-site and under MESSAGE BOARD, click-on PRINTER REPAIR FORUM. The first page will open up; scroll down to bottom of the page; in the bottom left corner is "click here to post a new message". Now you can post your new Subject Header & your printers problem...Again, Good Luck! Denny Conway

reset ip2000 :

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by caricell (7/26/05 5:37 PM) + / -
I just wanted to thank everyone here for their input and comments. I have a three-year old Canon S600, which I love. Suddenly I started getting the dreaded "waste tank almost full" message and every time I wanted to print I'd have to hit the resume button.

Anyhow..first thing I did was use the reset code found (numerous times) on this board. I had to try it a few times to get it right (timing is everything). That finally reset the counter. Then I figured I'd better open the printer and check out the pad(s). Good thing I did. The pads were sopping with ink, and some had already started to coat the bottom of my printer.

Again following the instructions here and elsewhere, I opened the sucker up (remember only TWO screws - even though you'll immediately see about 4 or 5). They are on opposite sides of the printer. Then the almighty "tabs" Wherever you see arrows or pointers. The last couple are the trickiest..they release the power supply and let you finally lift the printer out of the case.

Then the mess. One BIG pad...one medium size one, and two teeny, tiny little pads right next to the ink head. (Use tweezers to get em out and careful putting them back in..make sure you get them under the little plastic tabs that hold them in.

About an hour after squeezing out ink in the bathtub (if you don't wear gloves, you're suicidal) I put the pads outside on an absorbant towel. Next day, I finished them off with a blow dryer. Put it all back. Snapped it together. Prints like a gem.

Thanks again. All of you.

-Larry

Re: Waste tank counter reset wont work by Anonymous (7/26/05 8:40 PM) + / -

The error you have designed is a fault with the SPCNT board, which is under the scanner on the RH side. The USB port is also part of this board. I have seen several of these and the only way to fix the problem was to replace the board.

Cheers.

Waste tank counter reset for F80 by Louis (7/31/05 1:15 PM) +1 + / -
Well, I know the procedure, thanks to the Canon service manual for the F50. Well, I can't say that it works though - I hit menu, copy, then go to the printer option (7) I believe, then find the ink suction value in there, which is 0 right now - yet i'm still getting the message. The procedure for changing the pads tells you to go here and change it to zero, then change the pads to get rid of the error - however, I just tried changing it to zero. The machine seems to lockup at this point when you hit "set" after you enter the new value in. If I try to enter 100 (which indicates at full capacity), the printer makes some noise, and the same lockup occurs. I have to unplug the unit, and plug it back in. Whatever value I put here do not get saved, because the unit locks up at this point. Is this a safety to make sure you change the pads (actually open the printer?) I can hit any button and I get various beeps but no way to exit the menu. Upon powering on the unit, I still get the stupid error message - yet the current value for the ink suction is 0. Should I run the printer until it totally stops printing and displays the check printer message??? Then reset the value? My goodness they are making life difficult with this.

From people's experience, by changing the pads (actually opening the printer, breaking electrical paths by unplugging things) will this counter actually reset the way it is supposed to be??

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon p by mikeTt (8/4/05 5:21 PM) +1 + / -
My S9000 printer stopped working and was flashing the 8 orange flashes followed by one green flash; the code for used ink tank full (the used ink tank is actually a tray formed by the bottom of the printer that contains a 19” X 4”X 5/8” thick pad that absorbs the ink that misses the paper during printing or is ejected during cleaning cycles) It is reached by pushing a small screwdriver into the six slots (two at the back, two on the sides, near the back and two at the front edge) to release the outer case as mentioned above. The outer case lifts off up and forward. Be sure to unplug the USB and power cords first. If you start this process with three or four small screwdrivers and leave them wedged in as you work from the back to the front the case will not re-close on you.

The pad can be removed for emptying and cleaning by removing the printer mechanism. This is easily accomplished by removing three Philips head screws from the left end of the mechanism and two from the right. These screws are the ones that hold the printer mechanism to the base, do not release the screws that hold the mechanism together. Have a small sturdy ~3” high support handy to rest the left end of the mechanism on after you lift and rotate it. It does not come clear out of the plastic base since several power supply wires link it with the power supply that is built into the plastic baseplate. Just lift it up a few inches and rotate it clockwise to expose the large waste ink pad built into the baseplate tray. Using rubber gloves pick up the pad and place it in a 5 gallon bucket of water with a few drops of detergent. Gently squeeze the water through the pad and squeeze it out. Three buckets of water is enough to get it to where very little more ink is coming out. It is best to do this messy step outdoors. Then squeeze it flat with an old towel and hang it to dry overnight. The small sponge at the left end of the mechanism, the long one in the center of the print track and the head cap pad all drain into the large pad at the bottom of the printer. It is not necessary to clean these, the ink just moves through these areas to the waste-tank tray pad. Re-assembly is just the reverse of the above steps. Make sure both the waste ink tubes are positioned into the hole in the waste ink pad. Apply the reset code from Alan (above) and you are ready to go for another year or two. (Many thanks to Alan for the reset code, on this site). This process takes an hour or so to complete, not counting the time it takes the waste ink tank pad to dry.

I have a Canon SmartBase MPC400 - bought new two years ago. It has always needed a head refreshening or nozzle clean before it would print, but now it is flashing "Check Printer ##343", which I gather means that its ink detection waste ink tank is full. Hi,

If any one know how to reset the Canon MP370 printer, PS tell me.
The "Waste ink absorber is almost full" cames out and after printing some more pages the printer stop to response. Did call canon service centre and the repair fee($50 to check plus parts and labour) is too much (the printer only cost $200).

Please Please anyone know the reset code, post it so we do not need to through away the printer.

Thank you very much!

Re: MPC400 Wrong Cartrige &c. by Anonymous (8/31/05 3:38 AM) + / -
The MPC400 ink tanks are easy to refill, but sometimes the optical sensors in the cartrige holder get confused and this message pops up without warning. It tells you that the cartrige installation is faulty, not that the cartrige itself is wrong.

Take the holder out, remove the tanks, and prop them in a bowl with their pads and refill holes as hig as possible to minimise leaks.

Now flush the cartrige with clean 'evaporated water' (hard water may clog the fine mesh with calcium residue) continue until all of the colour has stopped bleeding. Do not touch or knock the (silver coloured) print matix as it is delicate. Leave it to dry for 24 hours away from heat or sunlight.

Using a clean india-rubber pencil eraser gently clean the gold contacts, removing any debris with a lint-free cloth.

Refil the ink tanks and ensure they are quite clean and dry before refit to the assembly. Reinstall and it should all work, but use the head clean & refresh cycles first. You may have to reset the printer (menu copy #, and the service menu appears. Press > until "8-Full Clear" appears then press OK). Good luck!

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Anonymous (9/13/05 2:22 AM) + / -
I was getting the waste tank full message on my Canon printer too. I finally corrected the problem. This is how I fixed my printer when I got the famous "waste tank full..." message. First,I tried all the "button pushing, use the right code" stuff. I did that for a couple hours (for a couple or days). I really needed to use my printer now. My second step to correct the problem was to unplugged my Canon i550 printer. I walked over to the waste basket and threw it in. I then went to the store and bought an HP printer. Problem solved! Shame on Canon for doing that to us! I hope HP is better.

Anyone had this delema?

Re: Canon F60 - Bad News - Will buy New Printer by Tigger (9/13/05 12:43 PM) + / -
I have a Canon Multipass F60 and after trying many reset and cleaning procedures, I finally caved and took it in for servicing.

The company charged $59.00 + tax upfront for Labor, only to find out the main board chip was fried and it would be expensive to repair. So, I decided not to have it fixed.

I will be buying a new all-in-one printer. Anyone know of any good all-in-one printers? Am now thinking Canon is not the way to go?

Note: Asked the Authorized Canon Service Repair guy for instructions on how to reset the F60 so I could let others with the F-Series know, but he wouldn't tell me. Don't remember the reason why.

Mastewart,
Thank you for replying to my message way up above. I am sorry it took so long to respond. Have been dealing with a lot of medical and personal stuff.

Good luck to all of you F-Series and other printer owners! :)

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon p by wayne g (9/20/05 10:55 PM) + / -
Dear Rob, A little late but better than never.

I too had this problem with a bjc6200. I think the error is in the paper sensor or the insert cartridge not connecting with the contacts. I read on one of the posts that cleaning the contacts on the cartridge (with the heads) and reinserting them will help. It did for me. Otherwise the other problem I had with the same light series was the paper sensor. When you put through paper too thick or pull out the paper with force it sticks the paper sensor in the up position. The paper sensor in mine was a black L shape affair with it pivoting on the top of the L. It sits in the middle of the roller carridge and can be pushed back down into place with a thin screwdriver.

Re: black not working by wayne g (9/20/05 11:02 PM) + / -
try puting the print head only (not the contacts part) in 4-5mm of hot water for 15 min. If this doesn't work try adding a little amonia to the water (do it outside as it stinks)Try also turning the caartridge upside down and dripping ink onto the sponge at the bottom and reinserting it. If you get a perfect print the sponge in the cartridge has hardned and wont let the ink through from the tank at the back. I have been told the sponge canot harden if the tank is full of ink at all times but I have seen this happen on cheeper no name brand refil tanks. Once you get flow set the printer settings to greyscale only or black only and print out some a4 pages of photo's etc. Print head cleans only waste colour cartridges. Sometimes they work though.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by spot (9/22/05 9:06 AM) +1 + / -
Well, My wife's Canon BJ S300 Pixus printer (purchased in Tokyo Japan) is now giving the waste tank full series of orange flashes. I took it apart, cleaned the pad and all internals appropriately. I tried the recommended reset sequence listed above on this website, but it doesn't seem to want to reset.

If I remove the print head, press and hold the resume button, then press and hold the power button, followed by two presses and releases of the resume button I can get to service mode. I can then press the resume button either 3 or 4 times and everything appears to reset. As soon as I reinstall the print head my error comes back immediatly.

If I try this with the print head installed, I can never even reach the service mode, as the light will never reach a steady state. It just continues to flash.

Is it possible the print head is defective? Any suggestions? Maybe I should soak the print head thoroughly in the cleaner.

I think we'll be buying HP printers from now on..

I have a Canon S820 which I just use for documents since it suffered the 18 month print head death about a year ago. Now, however it has refused to print any more and gives an 8 flash sequence which the book says is a waste tank full condition. I have tried the reset code to no avail. Is it time for the printer to be conigned to the trash can. Any help to recover its use would be appreciated. I print my photos with an Epson R210 so its not really urgent.

Re: RE: WASTE TANK RESET CODE FOR F30 MULTIPASS by JJI (9/26/05 5:13 AM) + / -
How did you clean the waste tank for the F30 ? I have an F50 which should have a similiar cleaning process. I couldn't find the screws to open up the printer and clean out the pads as I've read about previously.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by acmeron (9/26/05 3:01 PM) + / -
I have the Canon i850. I was getting the error code 7 oranges and one green. The printhead was stuck under the case on the right end. I took a letter opener and pushed the two slots (tabs) on the back, and the two on the sides near the rear. This loosened up the back of the case; then I took off the two ivory plastic right and left covers by lifting at the upper rear, which unlocked the tab, then sliding forward toward the front and they came off. There are two more slots now exposed. push the tabs in on those and the whole top comes off exposing everything including the pads. I removed the cartridges, removed the printhead and re-inserted it. It immediately started working again. Hope this helps someone.

The IP1500 (and I believe it's compairable with the ip1000) has a expecting life periode of 3 years.
But the registered amount of prints list is very little.
And because Canon handles the policy of whatever comes first, I think if you print rather regularly the max. amount of prints will be way within these 3 years.
Sneaky Canon business.
Please believe me, all the main market players handle the same dirty tricks.
Greetings,
Dutchmen

Canon senior managers, designers, engineers and technicians... YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!! How can you look in the mirror in the morning without heaving?? Aren't there any disgruntled Canon employees out there who would like to reveal a few of Canon's dirty little secrets?? Even if you're not disgruntled, how can you live with yourselves knowing you're a part of this disgusting scam of screwing so many innocent people who thought they were getting an honest printer that would actually work and be dependable. I have tried all the possible reset codes (for almost a week), cleaned out the waste ink tank, even took the printhead in for a professional cleaning... all to NO avail. I put a friend's identical printhead in my printer and this DID fix the problem. So, the printheads are designed to perform a given number of cleanings before self-destructing... how clever and sneaky is that?? Suckers, like myself, then have no choice but to put up another 50 to 70 bucks for a new printhead making the actual printing cost extremely high compared to our initial calculations before choosing to buy what we thought was a good deal (much less politically correct terms could be used here). THINK AGAIN CANON!!! I'm NOT an idiot and will NOT continue buying your over-priced printheads every few months!! I'm off to purchase a new HP... hopefully they're a more honest company and planning to be in business for the long term. Cheers, Canon-Diehard-Turned-HP
P.S. If you're a masochist, just look in the garbage in front of my house for a relatively new Canon printer... an i850, WOW!!

i have finally been able to solve the problem of resetting the canon i6500 printer after the inkwell became full and the printer ceased working. the flashing orange light is now a peaceful green for go!
for those canon customers interested, please follow these instructions.

1. turn off printer.
2. hold down resume button and press power button.
3. keep holding down power button and let resume button go.
4. press resume button twice then let both buttons go.
5. green light will flash and then stop blinking.
6. when green light is solid, press the resume button 4 times.
7. press the power button and the printer should turn off.
if not, press the power button once more.
8. your printer should now respond as normal.

please note: (N.B.) the printer will take a little time to regurgitate in the system. to strengthen your belief that you have done it right, turn off the printer and computer altogether at the mains and then switch everything back on and test the printer by instructing it to print an item.

unlike any other printer i have used in the last twenty years, this is my first experience using canon. with their intelligence and technical knowledge i am surprised at their tactics. ultimately, of course, it is a marketing ploy compelling users to throw away and buy again. not in my case. i still believe i have another two or three years' use out of my existing machine, but the next printer for me will not be made by canon!!!

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by hpwizard (11/12/05 6:28 AM) +1 + / -
You should make sure that the waste ink pads etc are NOT actually full before resetting. You can usually get away with resetting once but not always. It is there for a reason & I expect you would be the first to complain if ink suddenly started oozing out everywhere, blaming Canon for not having a safety measure to prevent this. I usually tell people how to reset these counters but do state that they should make sure that the waste pads are ok before doing so!
There! I'll get off my soap box now...
Have a GREAT day!

thank you dazz uk. you must be a dealer or engineer experienced in the trials and tribulations of canon printer users, to reply in such an authoritative way. yes, indeed i will always be cognizant of the inkwell problem and ensure constant vigilance in its use in future.
i have fifteen canon printers in my organisation which will gradually be replaced and upgraded by other makes.
i cannot tolerate mediocrity from those suppliers and manufacturers whose fortunes are built on the naivety of others.
the small capital outlay to purchase is one thing, the extortionate costs of ink cartridges and maintenance is another. but there lies the sting! buzzzzzz

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by hpwizard (11/14/05 3:51 PM) + / -
Garrett,
I am an independant engineer & see faults in all makes & models. I wasn't particularly siding with Canon. In fact up until about 3 years ago I wouldn't recommend anything but HP. Then they decided to compete in the cheap street market & quite frankly have damaged their reputation in the process. They still make great machines if you are willing to pay the price!
As far as inkjet printers go? They all have one glaringly obvious fault, (besides printheads failing) that is the waste ink problem. They either tell you when it's full, (or supposedly full) or they don't & you end up with a waste ink tank overflowing. When they do, the customer cannot do anything about it & when they don't, it's too LATE for the customer to do anything about it! I went to a Samsung fax/printer last week & the waste ink was about 7cm high from the bottom of the tank! This was rubbing on the bottom of the cartridges causing the nozzles to block. They kept on replacing the cartrdge (@ about Ј30 a time!) - There was no warning message - Good??

Hey! I have a novel idea! Lets make a printer with a waste ink drawer! When the "waste ink full" message appears, the customer can open it from the side, remove the waste ink pads/station & replace with a kit supplied by the manufacturer! (including reset procedures!) We can send man into space but we can't quite solve this waste ink thing can we? Or DOES it boil down to MONEY?? It isn't Rocket Science!!

I'm on your side guys! Why else would I be helping out people on this site for nothing???

I have an i850. I have tried everything that Indy suggested (and my hands are covered in ink to prove it) but the light is still flashing 8 times when I turn the printer back on. Everything is nice and clean and the waste pad is white as white can be. I have downloaded the service manual but it is not much help. I am not sure what else to try. Can someone please let me know what I am doing wrong??

Thanks,

Hi,

Am going nutty here.

I have a Canon s630 inkjet printer.
Its displaying the 8 orange/1 green blink sequence, which I thought was the Ink tank error...

I have cleaned the pads and put it all back together...

However the reset codes do not seem to work for me.

When I go through the first stage of

1. Power off
2. Power On and Resume held
3. Resume released and then pushed twice and then power released also

The printer goes into the same 8 orange/1 green cycle.
The messages in the forum suggest it should not do this....

If I follow the rest of the sequence and power off and on again I still have the same problrm....

Any Guidance would be approciated

Hi all...

I'm trying to locate the solution to this one as are a few others I see..

At present the known resets (provided by Neil Slade et al) are not for my model ie: the MP750 (which is the same as the MP780)..

Given that there is no "resume" button it makes it a little hard to work out what could be the correct procedure..

If someone has any potential clues then a reply would be appreciated and I'll see if I can't come up with the procedure and post it up in "laymens terms".

Thanks :)

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code Canon MP750 by websnail (11/23/05 9:13 AM) +1 + / -
Answering my own post here as something caught my eye ealier and I think I've got it sorted.. Please bear in mind I wouldn't have a clue that this does in fact work as expected but based on instructions elsewhere in this forum, it seems about right.

MP750 / MP780 reset instructions..

1. Service menu: Menu -> Scan -> Copy -> Scan
2. Select "TEST MODE"
3. Select "[8] ETC.."
4. Select "[4] EEPROM CLEAR"
5. Select "[1] INK COUNT"
6) Press the [OK] key.
7) Press the [Stop/Reset] key (returns you to the TEST MOD sub-menu))
8) press the [ON/OFF] key (which resets the printer)

TIP: Don't rush the printer as it can often take considerable time to respond to your commands. Frantic button pressing will just push the printer into snail mode (ie: slow as hell!).

Patience :)

Hope that helps... :)

There are instructions to reset the printer counter in this thread somewhere IIRC...

As to the the waste tank... You'll need a service manual and a LOT of guts to go poking around to get to the pads... www.manuals4u.com can get you the manual if you decide to go for it...

S530D waste tank error, cannot Reset. by raisin (12/1/05 4:43 AM) + / -
I have used the generic reset for S600 series many times. For flashing 8 times) without sucess. I have removed pad and cleaned printer. I have used most reset proc, removed head and computer cable while doing so. I would download a manuel but not sure if one for S500/S600 is close enough. Being a retired computer repairman it is a pain not being able to reset this. I like one guy's fix, carry to wastebasket, throw in! If I have to buy another printer it won't be one that is programmed to require a service call for more than the cost of printer. Thanks..

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by raisin (12/4/05 2:31 PM) + / -
I fixed my S530D by buying a new HP printer. Sure print cartridege's are more expensive but no more expensive cleaning cycles and no more waste ink tank error. Heck of a lot queiter too and less table space and new print head at every change. I had a bad print head during warr. with the Cannon. Had the run a round with Cannon support until one good guy toke care of my problem.........

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by hpwizard (12/4/05 2:38 PM) + / -
Canon Multipass C555,

Clean the cartridge contacts with a soft cloth & some water. Not just the copper bits on the cart. but on the holder as well. Also try leaving the cartridge out, powering off. Turn back on & when it asks for the cartridge replace.
Hope This Helps?!

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Anonymous (12/7/05 12:33 PM) + / -
My bjc 600 refused to stop flashing the error light and the two lights at right hand end and refusing to print (this is a return for major service code), the solution was to take out cartridges and then the print head and gently run water over the side inlet ports on the head and bottom jets avoiding top electrics and gently dry, this gave me a "brand new" head which after a few nozzle cleans nnd test sheets of printing it now works as new, saving vast amounts of money and time.

Waste tank counter reset code for i850 by EdK (12/19/05 6:36 PM) + / -
Dear Tim:
I just had the same problem with my i850. I cleaned and re-installed the waste ink pads. Code reset did not work. I cleaned out print head using canned compressed air. Wiped bottom of print head with 91% isopropyl alchohol. Code still didn't work.

I went on Canon customer service site and requested help by e-mail. I was pleasantly surprised when response came next day. They gave me the same procedures as on this site, and said if they did not work, the printhead was bad. Procedures didn't work.

I went on E-bay and got a genuine Canon printhead for $41 + $9 S&H. I popped that puppy in, and BINGO! Error code cleared by itself, and back to beautiful printing.

I took a $50 chance and it worked out. I think there is a built-in printhead counter after which they don't work.

If anyone has ideas for re-juvinating a printhead, let me know.

Thank you to all on the reset instructions! and Especialy to mike Tt.

Worked perfectly!

It even helped out with color matching, which I was having

No way did I want to disassemble it to clean the ink pad.

Instead, I took clean cotton t-shirt remnants and dipped them carefully into the sponges. Now it works great!

I know this is a temp fix until I replace the sponges for good. But, it works for now.

reset method that works for ip1500 by hohoho merry xmas (12/29/05 8:14 AM) + / -
the instructions in previous post didn't work for my ip1500. i tried different ways of doing it and here is one that works for my ip1500.

1.Download the service tool for ip1500 from www.printersiam.com, under downloads.
2.unplug the POWER cable, press and hold the power on button and reinsert the power cable.
3.the light should be green, press and release the resume button, the light will turn orange.
4.press and release both resume and power on button, the light will be green.
5.run the service tool that u downloaded from printersiam.
6.choose which usb port your printer is on.
7.click on MAIN under "Clear Waste Ink Counter" and click on PLATEN as well.
8.you should see the led flashing once for each button clicked to register that you've cleared the counter.
9.that's it, off and on your printer and it should work again.

Note: trying to get the service tool to work while your led is flashing green/orange won't work. Led must be a solid green before the service tool will work.

hope this helps other users. I print alot of pages on this printer and it's the second time i had to resort to resetting the waste ink absorber and so far nothing is leaking yet....

I Have A Canon i950 & i960. Just replaced the printhead with brand new, plus brand new Canon ink cartridges. I am getting bold black horizontal lines overprinting everything I print, including nozzlecheck & head alignment. I have tried this new printhead on both the i950 & i960 printers and it is happening on both. I have reset the waste tank codes on both- more than once... could there be some Canon preset disabeling code doing this that activates after resetting the waste tank code several times? If so is there a way to override it or reste the code????
Any clues would be appreciated! Canon is overwhelmed with emails right now. Epson is beginning to look very nice:)

Steady blinking green from power up on BJC 5100 by Willum (1/6/06 11:56 AM) + / -

I guess I have a different kind of error going on here. I talked to a tech guy at Canon and he was stumped. I have a steady blinking green from power on and the ink cartridge parks in the middle of the bay after the start up routine. I can not get it print a test page either manually or from the PC. No matter what procedure i have tried thus far it just keeps blinking green and does not respond. No beeps either.
I wonder if I should now proceed to step 15a-z9: Toss printer out of window and stop wasting your time.

Any other suggestions here?

Hi Guys!

I have problem to reset ink counter Canon i560.

I tried this procedure :
Start with the printer OFF
1. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER
2. release RESUME
3. press RESUME twice, then release POWER
4. Let green light blink until printer is done futzing

Start from here, I don't know exactly: is it still hold the POWER BUTTON when the the number of function/resume button pressed?

Select function with RESUME press POWER to execute:
presses - light color - function

vicgrimshaw,
I have the waste ink reset code for the BJC-80 printer? It may be the same but maybe not! Still, it may help somebody else in the future if not you.

1) unplug power
2) Hold POWER & RESUME
3) Plug in power
4) Release both after printer has initialised.
5) Hold CARTRIDGE & RESUME
6) Press POWER
7) Release all buttons after the "beeps"
8) Press CARTRIDGE 16 times
9) Press RESUME
10) unplug power

I was taking this from some very old notes I had made so let me know if it works?

thanks for trying did not work

Hi Laserman and vicgrimshaw,

I did the procedure as yours but when the printer turned on : the printer is still blinking 7times.

Do I miss something?

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by Laserman (1/8/06 9:17 PM) + / -
You have to be careful to follow the instructions exactly.
Also in some cases I have heard that you need to remove the printhead before you do the procedure, it is worth trying that.

Thanks a lot Laserman.....

Finally I fixed the problem!
The reset procedure canon i560 is absolutely right!

At procedure number(1):
It should be "Just turn off" the power switch and not "Unplug the Power Cord"

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by Anonymous (1/16/06 9:16 PM) + / -
your used ink try is in the bottom part of the printer if you look all the way around the bottom of the printer you will see little slots you use a small screwdriver to pop them open and lift up on th top part of the printer tell they all come off the there will be 4 screw's holding the printeron to the bottom remove the screws remerber how it goes back together lift the printer part off the bottom and you will see the foam piace take it out and wash it with warm water best to do it out side and when its as clean as you can get it let it dry for a day are two then replace everything the way you took it apart then go through the reset formula and should be ok for along time

For MP360, try this as it seems to have worked for me !

Reset Waste Ink
1) Enter SERVICE MODE.
By pressing the black button with the star (in a head ?) above it, followed by scan, copy, scan
2) Select TEST MODE (press right arrow button 13 times).
3) Select [8] PRINTER TEST
4) It'll now say "- 8-2 +" press the right arrow key once to get "- 8-3 +" Hit ok.
5) Select 0. [INK COUNT].
6) Press the ok key.
7) It should return to showing the "8: Printer Test - 8-3 +"
8) Press the [Stop/Reset]key - black key with triangle and circle on it - (returning to the state of 3)), and then press the [ON/OFF] key.

Good Luck and don't blame me if it goes wrong !!!!

wrong cartridge error for canon MP730 by ad1 (1/23/06 6:10 PM) +4 + / -
Can anyone help me with this? I have seen other posts but no-one seems to have followed up with what works. My MP730 printer keeps displaying "wrong cartridge" and the alarm light is blinking. I tried cleaning the printhead in rubbing alcohol and that didn't work. Do I need to replace the printhead? I am worried that I may buy a new printhead and still get the same error. Thanks for your help!

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon p by AlienSteve (1/25/06 9:55 AM) + / -
I know this is an old message, but I see no answer so I'll answer in case someone else comes along searching for help with this printer.

Reset codes have nothing to do with one ink not printing. The reset is for a "waste ink" full error. When it's in that mode, it won't print at all.

You've either got a badly clogged black print head, or failed print head.

From my page:

An excerpt:

If the printheads are badly clogged and the printer driver cleaning cycles aren't fixing it, you may try the following:

First effort: put a few drops of cleaning solution onto the park pad "sponge". This is that sponge-looking thing (actually a hard plastic foam) where the head sits when not printing. Just do whatever it takes on that printer to unpark the heads as if you were going to change cartridges, then close it up and let it sit for a day before you run a cleaning cycle and nozzle check again.

Extremely Thorough Cleaning: Take the head out, remove the cartridges. If you've saved the orange seals, tape them onto the cartridges, if not then wrap black electrical tape around so it covers the ink outlet and the little air inlet on top. Only pull it snug across the ink outlet, not tight, and fairly loose on the cartridge body to prevent tape creep.

I then just stick the head under a stream of hot tap water. I use a soft plastic eyedropper to squirt the above cleaning fluid into the ink inlet meshes on the head and to flush ink off the bottom of the head. Careful not to touch the nozzles!

As you squirt cleaning fluid into the screen, a lot will rush back out, that is fine as it is flushing ink and gunk back out rather than forcing it through the nozzles, which are far finer than a human hair.

When you see little or no more color in the water or cleaning solution, force some of the straight filtered/distilled water into the screens. Rinse the outside of the print head with straight isopropyl alcohol (99% is better than 50% for this) and pat dry with a clean cotton towel (-not- paper towels) and again, DO NOT TOUCH THE NOZZLES.

Patience is a virtue. I've bought a lot of Canon printers in thrift stores with full cartridges because the heads clogged, they bought new cartridges, that didn't fix it so they tossed it at Goodwill. I clean them up and for $12.95 I get $45 worth of brand new cartridges and a backup printer. I only had two heads be unsaveable, those would print on all nozzles but had sprung internal leaks between two colors, cyan and yellow. The symptom was yellow nozzle checks print green, and the ink inside the yellow cartridge slowly turns green.

Re: wrong cartridge error for canon MP730 by AlienSteve (1/25/06 1:28 PM) + / -
Was this a replacement cartridge?

IE, has this been giving the same error since the first time you installed it, or has it been working? Anything happen before it quit working?

What do you mean you cleaned the print head? Which part?

Re: wrong cartridge error for canon MP730 by ad1 (1/25/06 5:48 PM) +3 + / -
I ordered a bunch of ink cartridges off the internet and have been using them for a year now, replacing them as necessary. Never had a problem before this. The alarm came on out of nowhere, I had not even replaced a cartridge in the days leading up to the alarm coming on.

I removed the cartridges and soaked the printhead in rubbing alcohol for about two hours, I then let it dry overnight on some paper towels. I then reinstalled it and put the ink cartridges back in, and still the same alarm light blinking and the "wrong cartridge" is displayed on the lcd panel.

Thanks for your help. I look forward to your response.

Re: Re: wrong cartridge error for canon MP730 by AlienSteve (1/26/06 11:51 AM) + / -
Bad, bad, bad.... why soak the head for a "cartridge error"? Do you have a book that might explain what that error message may mean? That wouldn't be the first time some electronic item gave misleading error messages.

Soaking is something you'd do for a clog. Rubbing alcohol is not a good solvent for ink by itself, but it can suck the water out of the ink. So even if you get it to recognize the cartridge again, it may be very clogged from drying out overnight. What did you do to prevent the ink in the cartridges from drying out while you did this?

It is more likely it wasn't making good contact. Nothing abrasive should ever be used on the gold contacts. Not pencil erasers, not sandpaper, not paper towels or even paper. The contacts can be wiped with a soft cloth with a little 90% or 99% isopropyl alcohol on it, just damp and not wet with it. Careful when wiping the contact fingers in the printer, you don't want to snag or you could bend or break them.

Looking online, I see it uses the same printhead as: Canon I560 Canon I850 Canon MULTIPASS MP700 Canon MULTIPASS MP730 Canon PIXMA iP3000. You might check thrift stores and see if you come across a used i850 for a spare head. Otherwise it's about $60 new.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Anonymous (1/26/06 5:30 PM) + / -
Just got this from Canon's web site. Hope it helps the iP4200 owners:

When you replace the ink tank, it is necessary to reset the Ink Counter. (If the Ink Counter is not reset, the remaining ink warning will not be displayed correctly.)

Right-click the printer icon, and then click [Properties] to open the [Properties] dialog box.
Click the [Maintenance] tab and click [Ink Counter Reset].
The window shown below will be displayed.
Click the checkbox of the ink tank that you replaced to add a checkmark.
Check that the printer is on, and then click [Execute].
This completes the procedure for resetting the Ink Counter.

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon p by AlienSteve (1/26/06 10:09 PM) + / -
You misunderstand. Look at the subject line again: -waste- ink tank. It should properly be called a waste ink -pad-, because it's really a big thick felt-like pad at the bottom of the printer. That's where ink goes from cleanings.

Re: wrong cartridge error for canon MP730 by Anonymous (1/29/06 6:10 PM) + / -
I looked at the contacts for the printhead and they seem to be free of any debris, etc. I also wiped it with a Q-tip and the same thing with the contact pins in the printer. I was careful not to bend them. I then reinstalled the printhead and the ink cartridges but still get the same error "wrong cartridge". At this point I should either spend the $60 and buy a new printhead or junk the printer because I would hate to spend the $60 and find out it is the printer and not the printhead. Equivalent printers are pretty cheap these days. Canon has been of no help and suggests I take it into a authorized repair center or else they will give me a discount on a new printer. Any thoughts...

I have a Canon BJC 3000. I received the "used ink tank is almost full" message. Through the help of this board, I took apart my printer and cleaned the felt pad at the bottom of the printer. After drying the pad, I reassembled my printer and used the reset codes that were mentioned in this forum. My printer DID reset and acts like everything is fine, except that it will not print, neither the color or black will print on a piece of paper.
I soaked the bottom of the print head in alcohol for 6 hrs as recommended by someone on this board. It still will not print. I cleaned the contacts (very carefully) but this did not help. Deep cleaning does not help. Is there a reset code for the cartridge? Should I throw out my printer and buy a new canon? Hubby tells me that I should face the facts and quit spending any more time on it. I like my canon because I can easily refill it and it does a very nice job in printing. Please help! vista9 @ hotmail.com

"If you can't get a color to print after cleaning even with ink in the cartridge, it is almost certainly a clogged cartridge-- just bit the bullet and buy a new Canon cartridge or other third party cartridge, and watch the levels and light clean regularly after that.

I have gotten a clogged head to recover after running a couple of heavy cleaning cycles- but prevention is worth a cartridge of ink-- don't let these suckers run dry, or leave an empty spot in your ink tray- always have a cartridge in place, even if its out of ink."

MY CANON S530D IS BLINKING 7 ORANGE AND ONE GREEN CONTINUOUSLY. THE PRINTER WON'T PRINT AT ALL. FROM READING PREVIOUS ENTRIES, I BELIEVE THAT THIS MAY BE SOME SORT OF CODE PROBLEM. THERE HAVE BEEN NO PREVIOUS CODES FOR THIS MODEL ENTERED. MAYBE THIS MACHINE HAS FEWER FAULTS THAN MORE EXPENSIVE ONES? CAN ANYONE HELP? CHEERS!

ALL reset code for Canon printers -i550. by tassih (2/19/06 7:39 AM) + / -
Thanks a lot for all postings. My question: would you buy a car, which stops sunday midnight on the middle of the highway telling you: service required - and all behind that is a code?

OK - I worked around the waste-ink message on my i550 with all this postings, now it is working again BUT I must have pressed a button once to much, since it will now not turn on or off from PC-input, only manually. Does anyone have information about an overall-reset resp. how to do this?

A hint for those using mostly BW-text: as I found still the color was draining, obviously the initial cleaning uses all colors - a bit expensive after a while.
I took empty color tanks and filled them with water, added a tiny sprinkle of glass-cleaner and alas- the head is kept in order as I am printing 99% text. Disadvantage: when changing to colortanks you would have to run a little while on color to clear the system.

Filling on the fly is easy, if you drill (or melt) a tiny hole on the top of the tank and put a screw in to seal it. If you open the cover, it will move to the middle and you can unscrew and fill with a syringe - but do it quickly, as the inner suction balance of the tank is disturbed : which means simply, it could start dropping during the filling process.

Canon by the way does top this type of service: they asked me, if I was helped properly by the helpline (means: sending the printer for repair) in a questionaire, in which you undergo a psychological test about lying on the information, which you contribute for their business: nice going.

THANK-YOU NEIL! I live in Japan, bought a Pixus 960i (Nope, not an i960, Japanese 960i) and thought I was just up the creek! I print on average about 1,000 pages for a colour-newsletter for our company, don't speak enough Japanese to get much done, Service Center in the States TOTALLY unhelpful, couldn't find anything on the web until I went to your website. I've been battling my printer FOR DAYS, deadline looms, thought I was going to have to fork out another $400 for a new printer! YOU SAVED ME!

Am now combing to use all your great tips! Thanks again!

BJC-50 revised instructions by Falcon4 (2/28/06 2:43 AM) + / -
Hey, after several confusing, unsuccessful tries, I finally got my BJC-50 printing again. Whoever wrote those should probably try to explain what the printer is going to do, because I'm STILL not sure which try actually caused it to reset the counter (pressing "cartridge" 16 times is kinda odd).

Plugging it in is a must (not just using the battery as an "AC adapter" substitute), it seems it uses that as some input trigger. Holding the Resume button before plugging it in, and before pressing power, seems to put it in an alternate-alternate mode (as opposed to the standard power-button-hold behavior).

So the instructions to be changed are...
- Unplug AC adapter. Leave battery in.
- Hold RESUME.
- While holding resume, plug in AC adapter.
- "Charge" should not illuminate (if it does... try again). Press Power, and hold it. You are now holding Resume and Power at the same time.
- After the bip (a quick bip-bip, NOT bip... bip... bip... endlessly)

Continue on, and good luck... I'll add my notes/observations)
5: Hold CARTRIDGE and RESUME
(here, printer may start motions, I don't know if that indicates success or failure)

6: Press POWER
(*Printer should not turn off!*)
7: Release all buttons after the beeps
(May or may not beep?)
8: Press CARTRIDGE 16 times or more
(No reaction from printer, however NOTHING should happen. Power and Error are solid on at this point)
9: Press RESUME (compleate with battery/cartridge) to see if ok!!!
(Printer... doesn't do anything, however I pulled the plug and battery on mine to "set it")
10: Unplug the Power cord
(Or... in other words, I guess, test it. Plug it in, hold the POWER button until you hear the first "bip", and release it. After it warms up and beeps once, put paper in and press Resume. See if it prints!)

Hope this helps some people. I'm glad it saved my BJC-50! It may have thrashed print heads, but it's portable and it's a battery operated scanner FFS! No other "portable" printer has that. ;)

i550 Canon printer won't print in colour by Fawn (3/8/06 9:25 AM) + / -
I am a noobie. Up until a six months ago my printer was working fine, then I ran out of ink and the paper jammed. I didn't take the printer in to the shop for repair for a couple of months. They put in new ink cartridges and fixed the jamming problem.

When I got the printer home and reconnected it, it kept flashing the seven orange and one green light. I tried resetting the waste tank code and now it will print only black.

I have cleaned the print head and deep cleaned the print head. When I do a print out, only A, D and F columns have any lines on them. The other columns have nothing showing.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it?

Thank you

Fawn

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by s-cube (3/13/06 9:10 PM) + / -
The waste-ink counter for the BJ F900, F890, F700, F500, S900, S820, S750 and S520 are all reset in the same manner.

Turn off the printer.

Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and still hold the POWER button.

Release the RESUME button, then press and release the RESUME button two (2)more times in succession. (youre still holding the POWER button during this).
Release the POWER button then
The printer mechanics will move momentarily.

You are now in Service mode.

Pressing the RESUME key will select a function; for example: pressing RESUME 4 times will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp will alternate color with each key press.

Service mode selection:
******************
pressing RESUME 1 time--> 1. service/factory test printout, including ink sensor check
pressing RESUME 2 time--> 2. EEPROM info printout
pressing RESUME 3 time--> 3. EEPROM initialization
pressing RESUME 4 time--> 4. Clear the waste-ink counter
pressing RESUME 5 time--> 5. Printer model setting. (more selections beyond this- leave this alone)

After selecting a mode, press the POWER button to commit the change (and return to the top of the function selection menu). Pressing the POWER button again turns off the printer.
Pressing the POWER button again to restart the printer.

If you have a defective printer head, your power lamp may flash during the service mode key-in, and the selection "1.service/factory test printouts..." may not work.

In this case, clearing the waste-ink counter may not fix your problem! Then you must clean or change your printer-head.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon i70 by 2dopey (3/31/06 4:27 AM) +1 + / -
Below is a procedure that in most cases should resolve a Canon i70 waste tank issue
-----------

1) Close the print head cover, and turn off the printer. While pressing the Resume/Cancel button, press the Power button.

(Do not release the buttons. The LED lights in green to indicate that a function is selectable.)

2) While holding the Power button, release the Resume/Cancel button.

(Do not release the Power button.)

3) While holding the Power button, press the Resume/Cancel button 3 times, and then release the Power and Resume/Cancel buttons.

(Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in either orange or green, starting with orange.)

During initialization, the LED blinks in green.

4) When the LED stops blinking and lights in green, press the Resume/Cancel button 4 times (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in either orange or green, starting with orange.)

After the function (menu) is selected, press the Power button. The LED lights in green, and the selected function is performed. (When the operation completes, the printer returns to the menu selection mode automatically.)

*** 4 times Green Waste ink counter resetting Both the main and borderless print waste ink counters are cleared.

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Anonymous (4/10/06 10:54 AM) + / -
I received the same message and have done everything for my BJC3000 printer. Mine keeps flashing one green and 6 orange (which indicates "ink cartridge not installed", but of course it is. I have done everything and still "no fix" Canon was no help they said to take it to an authorized service dealer, which is more expensive than buying a new printer. Would you please let me know if you get any helpful replies? I also love the printer and hate to junk it, especially since I just put new cartridges in recently. Thank you, Joyce

Thanks to Indy for his very helpful posts on how to fix the "used ink tank full" messages from Canon printers.

I followed Indy's instructions for removing the ink pad to clean or replace it on my S520. Unfortunately, I fell over at the last hurdle. I could not remove the frame or chassis in order to access the ink pad. I removed the two screws at the rear holding the chassis to the bottom of the case. But the frame would not come loose. There appear to be another two screws at the front of the frame. I could access one of these screws - but the last one at the left front I could not access. Screw head access is blocked by a stepper motor. Am nervous about removing this stepper motor, if I could see how to do it.

Hi Greg,

Your solution seems to be working for my MP360.

I claened the sponge and hung it in the sun for a day untill it became totally dry.
After re-assembling my printer, I couldn't find the reset-procedure. I called Canon, but at the helpdesk they refused to help me. I should bring my printer back to the shop for repair. I assume it would have costed me the price of a new one. Not an option for me!

A new search brought me to your solution.

Thank you very much,

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Me (5/9/06 5:22 AM) + / -
For your information nearly all printers that feature the print-head in the printer will give you sevice needed error message after a certain period of time or after a certain number of head-cleans, this includes Canon's, Epson's, Brothers, ect. you can buy an HP buy all means but there built so shoddy that the printer will most likely break in 3 years anyways, and Lexmark cartridge prices are just a plain rip off. In all honesty i would rather stick with my canon printer which has good cartridge prices and just replace it with a new up to date model anyways about every 3 years. The technology, features, resolution and speed of the latest printers are advancing at such a phenomenal pace at the moment that you are more than likely going to want a new printer in 3 years time anyway.

Home printing isn't cheap and never has been get used to it.

Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Anonymous (5/13/06 2:13 PM) + / -
I used the procedure irwannn posted above for Canon i9900 but it seems that my printer still does not want to work. What I noticed is this:
in step 2, after pressing the resume button twice when power is pressed and then releasing both, printer starts something like a head cleaning procedure that takes about 30-45 seconds, in which time, the LED will blink . after that, the LED will stay lit in green. After pressinf the resume button for 4 times (LED goes from green->orange->green->orange->green), and then press power button the LED will remain on green but nothing else happens... If I press the power button one more time, the printer will shut down but when I turn it on again, after the boot up, the LED will alternate between green and orange for 8 times, then a little bit longer will stay on green and then the procedure repeats. On canon's website they say this error code is for waste tank.
Can anyone help me with this problem, please?
Thank you!

I have never seen such a waste of internet space in my life.

If someone has an actual ink cartridge reset code for the ip4200, why isn't it on this page?

Instead "oh please send me the code, please please please!!"

The waste tank reset that I know is plainly posted here
http://www.neilslade.com/papers/inkjetstuff.html

as far as ink tank reset for ip4200--- the one on this web page is useless.

INK TANK reset code for Canon printers. by neil@neilslade.com (5/13/06 8:48 PM) + / -
Yes.

There is NO INK TANK RESET CODE for the ip4200 that I know of, and the rumours of such are just so much nonsense.

Refill the carts, then IGNORE the low cart and empty cart warning.

When the empty cart warning appears, hit the 2nd button, the RESET BUTTON and ignore all of the dire warnings to continue printing.

You may try and HOLD the reset button for 5+ seconds and get rid of all the subsequent warnings OR

You may have to do this 3 times until the damn warning stops coming up.

NOTE: This will DISABLE any future ink level indicators for that tank.

You can also replace the PIGMENT ink cart with plain old DYE BULK INK without problem.

Please go to my extensive free site in regards to all Canon maintenance problems at
http://www.neilslade.com/papers/inkjetstuff.html for more info.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon print by neil@neilslade.com (5/15/06 3:09 PM) +1 + / -
Sorry-- My previous post that you COULD reset the ink tank level indicators by printing a test print, or resetting the waste tank level is INCORRECT> it only works until the next time you turn your printer on, then you are back to square one.

Anyone claiming to be able to email you a reset code-- this is a scam. There is no ink tank reset code. That's why no one has actually posted it anywhere on the web-- it doesn't exist.

Here's the present known situation;

The new Canon line of printers present a problem for people wanting to refill their carts with bulk ink. Canon has made the cartridges signal the printer via an electronic counter the number of prints- as opposed to the earlier system of a purely optical device to signal low ink level.

This means, that if you refill the original carts, the printer will not sense a full cart- because its COUNTING PRINTS as well.
This is how Canon "encourages" the consumer to only buy their cartridges, which are obscenely priced.

How to get around this?

Here's the bad news--- THERE IS NO WAY TO RESET THE INK TANK LEVEL INDICATORS from my research, despite rumours here and elsewhere. Don't waste your time asking people to send you the code. It doesn't exist- and that's why its not posting ANYWHERE.

But there is a work-around so you can refill and keep using the printer without shelling out $14 for an official cart.

(please visit my site for all kinds of Canon and other brand printer and ink information - free, non-commercial at
http://www.neilslade.com/papers/inkjetstuff.html

INK CART REFILLING ON NEW ip4200 Printers (and similar)
WORK-AROUND

Here's what you can do....

METHOD #1 - Easiest, but it disables the ink tank level indicators.
1) Ignore the low ink indicator, and press the RESET BUTTON to continue printing. If you press and hold the reset button for 5+ seconds, it will disable the counter for that particular ink tank. Refill tank now.

2) Repeat as needed.
You will get a dire warning that this will void you warranty, blah blah blah. If you do need to take your printer in during warranty and you've disabled ink tank counting, simple reset the entire printer as describe below for the wate tank warning, and nobody will ever know. SAVE YOUR CANON CARTS with a bit of ink left in- your printer will need to have Canon carts installed for warranty service.

3) Eventually you may be warned that the tank is empty. Press reset as above to disable and continue printing.

If you think this entire thing is ridiculous- you are right.
Get an earlier model that takes un-chip carts, like an ip6000, or ip3000, or i960. Much simpler and you get to use the ink tank indicators after refilling.

************

You can reset the entire printer with the WASTE TANK reset (below) when you need to clean or change the waste tank PAD (its really not a tank) See the above instructions for the i960 and similar for other Canon printer waste tank changes.
Here's the ip4200 reset options:
1) With the printer power turned off, while pressing
the Resume/Cancel button, press and hold the Power
button. (DO NOT release the buttons. The Power LED
lights in green to indicate that a function is
selectable.)

2) While holding the Power button, release the
resume/Cancel button. (DO NOT release the Power
button.)

3) While holding the Power button, press the
Resume/Cancel button 2 times, and then release both
the Power and Resume/Cancel buttons. (Each time the

Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the Alarm and
Power LEDs light alternately, Alarm in orange and Power
in green, starting with Alarm LED.)

4) When the Power LED lights in green, press the

Hi just had same problem and found this, hope its not too late

This is the correct code procedure for resetting the Canon MP370

(and hopefully other similar designated models

1) Printer on, press Additional Functions, Scan, Copy, Scan. Now you should be in service mode from there for waste ink tank reset it is simalar to what has already been posted

2) Select Test mode which is like the last available selection

3) Select #8 Printer Test, it will do something here like cleaning or something then it will come up with some other option this is where it gets a bit confusing cause now all it says is like 8-2 or 8-3 push the + or - button until it says 8-3 then hit the select button

4) The menu will now say EEPRON Clear. Select Ink count which is option (0) and press set

5) Select Ink count which is option (0) and press set.

Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by fredjedvd (8/30/06 5:27 AM) + / -
1) Ignore the low ink indicator, and press the RESET BUTTON to continue printing. If you press and hold the reset button for 5+ seconds, it will disable the counter for that particular ink tank. Refill tank now.

2) Repeat as needed.

Waste ink tank reset for Canon i965!!

1. Turn off printer

ENTER THE SERVICE MODE AS FOLLOWS:

2. Hold down resume then press power button.

3. Keep hold of power and release resume.

4. Press resume twice.

5. Wait for printer to stop ftzing.

6. You should now have solid green but if you get 1 green and 8 orange lights alternating press resume once.

7. You should now have a solid green.

YOU ARE NOW IN SERVICE MODE:

8. Now press the resume button 4 times. (the light colour will alternate with each press)

9. You should now have a solid green.

10. Press the power button to register the reset.

11. Press the power button once more to switch off.

12. Press the power button to switch on again. The printer should function correctly.

I think it is digusting that Canon sell these printers, knowing full well that this problem will occur (otherwise they wouldn't program the on-screen warning) without any pre-sale or in-manual warning. It seems to be a ruse to keep the service dept busy.

Re: Waste counter reset code for Canon S-500 by Anonymous (9/24/06 11:36 AM) + / -
Eureka. After following procedures outlined in E-mails from Canon and getting bad news telling me to drive 170 miles to nearest service center I decided to play around with the machine before I bought a new one.
The procedure for S-520 was followed but it failed many many times.
Yesterday in my frustration I took out the print head removed the color cartridges ( which were all like new) and soaked the print head in warm water. After 10 minutes or so of soaking I held the unit under warm running water for about 10 more minutes, set it out to dry under an air conditionig vent overnite. Today I installed the head and color carts.

Then replugged, powered and....

Held Reset then press and held Power
Released Resume and Pressed it twice.Released power. After resetting noise stops. Press resume 4 times.
press Power off....Power on and print.
All this done withot understanding what in H I was accomplishing....but I am printing again
Dont Quit trying...but if you must ..there are some good sales out there for $99.oo or less.

Re: Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Anonymous (9/26/06 8:56 AM) + / -
I tried your sequence on my MP360 but it hasn't cleared the problem. Do you think the procedure for the 360 would be the same as for the 370? Any other suggestions?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Waste tank counter reset code for Canon printers. by Anonymous (9/29/06 7:31 AM) + / -
It wouldn`t hurt to try it. The numbers seem close enough to have used the same code sequence

I was having a problem with the Canon s300 that came with the computer I purchased 4 years ago. The used ink tank warning displayed recently and I failed to research the issue in time. I couldn't print for a few weeks but found this site and the series of posted messages corresponding to this same issue with various Canon models. The instructions on reseting the thing worked beautifully!.

Re: Canon Code # 345 WARNING?? by Anonymous (10/9/06 5:12 PM) + / -
Hi I have repaired MPC400 with error code 345. It was very difficult: there was a pump (for cleaning of printhead) with rubber bars inside which was not in right position. Pump motor was "frozen" by enormous resistance of pump mechanism, due rubber bar. Main motor of printhead pickup was automaticaly stopped by processor. After correcting of gum position in a pump is all working fine. It takes 3-4 hours of delicate work.

I get the eight blinking lights on my s9000 but after reading the reset code comments I wonder why no one will just write what it is. Does anyone know it without me having to go to a service department to get this fixed?

Neill if you are still around and the same Neill that published ( The Amazing Brain Music Adventure) I was on your web site and was able to pull all the info down on my i960 and it works okay now some additional problems.

The print alignment will not complete its test once it prints out the first page and you make the adjustments the 2nd pg is automatic but I get an error because it does not finish. Both cyan colors I still have not gotten back even after blowing air into them with a compressor. If I do not have all colors working is this a cause for alignment error.

I know on the BJC-4200, a steady blinking green means the print head needs to be replaced. I imagine it's the same for the 5100. You might just check the online manual at Canon's web site.

Thanks Wes, finding this site has saved me heaps. I had the ink tank error message on my canon MPC600f and rang the "local" Canon agent in Dubbo, NSW, Australia, some 400kms away, who told me that I would have to send the printer/fax into them for repair abd be without a fax for as long as it took and also be without some$$$ for frieght and repairs. Thanks again, Phil.

After following the tips and hints showed in this website, I'm still having problems to reset the Waste Tank Counter of a Canon MP700. If somebody else could help me would be great!

I have done all the stuffs showed here for different Canon Printers, even the tutorial in this webpage(and neil's website as well), nothing works. Always getting the orange lights blinking and the message WASTE INK NEAR FULL. I've done the cleaning of the pads as well, but still not ok. What else should be done?

Thanks in advance.
