Susan: Unfortunatly, if the printer does not recognize the Cleaning Cartridge, then you will not be able to use it. Because of the Electrical Chip mounted onto the Epson Ink Cartridges, sometimes even Generic & Third-Party Ink Cartridges do not always work in Epson Printers. There is no software program that I am aware of that will allow a cartridge to work, if the printer does not recognize it...At this point all you can really do [if you already have not done so] is to reinstall the correct Epson Ink Cartridge and then start running sets of "Printhead Cleaning Cycles" and "Nozzle Tests" to see if you can get all those nozzles to open up and start firing again. Remember that every printhead cleaning cycle must be followed by a nozzle test, because the printer uses each nozzle test as a point of reference for the next cleaning cycle performed. You may have to run as many as 6 to 10 sets of tests, while trying to get all the nozzles to open up again. Unfortunatly, all those tests waste a lot of ink and if after 10 sets of tests, all of the black nozzles are still not open, then they are probably clogged. You might want to try using the Printhead Cleaning Kit, available through the home page on "fixyourownprinter.com", for around $10.00 plus shipping. It includes a syringe and some Epson Printhead Cleaning Solution, which is designed to dissolve most clogs, especially if you were using Epson inks. You can try it if you want to and see if you can get the printhead nozzles to open up again. Check for an e-mail from me, with some other information...If you want to see what's involved in print head cleaning, Wes has supplied a link that might help: " http://www.epsonhelp.web1000.com/printhead.html "...Good Luck! Jody: You did not post your printers actual problems, so its hard to know whats wrong...Just to let you know: If you were to do a search on this Printer Repair Site, under the Epson C82 series printers, you would see that you are not alone in your problems. I recommend that you do a general search on the "fixyourownprinter.com" printer repair site, under your C82 printer and then you can read about other peoples experiences, their advise and even what they have tried, sometimes successfully. It seems like most of the problems are not actually related to clogging, but usually more of a Hardware Failure [parts problem], but no way for me to really know. Most of the problems posted, seem to happen just by simply repacing the ink cartridges, as normal. I know this information does not really give you that much to go on, but without actually knowing what your printers problem is, theres not much I can tell you. I felt you should at least have the opportunity to know about other peoples posted messages on their C82 printers, just in case it happens to also apply to your printer...Wes has supplied a link that might also help: "If you want to see what's involved in print head cleaning try this link. http://www.epsonhelp.web1000.com/printhead.html ". ...Denny Conway

Phillip: If its actually clogged, then you might want to try using the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution, available through the Home Page on "fixyourownprinter.com", at http://fixyourownprinter.com/ . When it opens, click-on Epson, under PRINTER REPAIR KITS. Then click-on "Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution" and that page should then open correctly. The Epson Solution sells for around $10.00 plus shipping. It includes a syringe and some Epson Printhead Cleaning Solution, which is designed to dissolve most clogs, especially if you were using Epson inks. This is the same chemical used by Epson in their service department. You can try it if you want to and see if you can get the printhead nozzles to open up again, but that will only help if they are actually clogged. It was basically designed by Epson Company for use on their older models of ink jet printers, but people have been using on the newer models, with some sucess reported. If you want to see what's involved in print head cleaning, Wes has supplied a link that might help: http://www.epsonhelp.web1000.com/printhead.html and he also suggests trying the SSC Service Utility from here: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html . Unfortunatly, that SSC Utility does not work on all printers and on all Operating Systems, so you will have to actually check for yourself...It's possible that you may even have an actual HARDWARE/PARTS PROBLEM [such as a failing Printhead Assembly, Main Board Assembly or Cleaning Station Assembly. It's also possible that you may have a different problem, which unfortunatly seems to be quite common on the C82/C84 series. If you were to do a search on this Printer Repair Site [under your Epson C82 printer], you would see that you are not alone in your problem. I've read several posted messages on this Printer Repair Site on just that particular problem. I recommend that you do a general search on the "fixyourownprinter.com" printer repair site, under your C82 printer and then you can read about other peoples experiences, their advise and even what they have tried, sometimes successfully. It seems like most of the problems are not actually related to clogging, or even a bad or empty ink cartridge, but is usually more of a Hardware/Parts Failure, but no way for me to really know. It seems to happen most of the time, just by simply repacing the ink cartridges, as normal. You might want to check out the "Stylus C82/C84 & CX-5200 Blank Output" information page, put out by Compass Micro Inc, at http://www.compassmicro.com/tip_detail.cfm?TechTipID=23 . I know this information does not really give you that much to go on, but I felt you should know about other peoples reports, just in case it happens to apply in your case...Good Luck! Denny Conway...P.S. Check for an e-mail from me, with some additional information with that cleaning kit, in case you decide to use it.

To all Warriors fighting with clogged up Epsons:
Take it from one who works on these things: Buy an HP printer. Epson, Canon (and possibly Lexmarks) buld their printers with the printhead as part of the printer. This has the effect of making the cartridges somewhat more affordable, but when clogs occur, the headaches are greater. HP, like Ford, had a better idea. Build each cartridge with its own print head. That way, print head problems are solved each time you replace your cartridges. I just replaced my old Epson 660 with a new HP 5650, and I'll never go back to Epson. That's how I solved my problem.
Lots o' luck to everyone!

Not that this will help anyone but I thought that I would throw my two cents in anyway. We have been purchasing Epson Inkjets since the 600 series came out. The print quality was quite impressive and the switch from the HP line to Epson was a no brainer. The 777i which we call the recycled milk bottle was inexpensive and somewhat dependable with the exception of a spring that pops off the paper feed rollers. Then came the C82 and C84. I'm amazed that there isn't a class action suit in the works. The printers have an extremely high failure rate. We have taken the cleaning solution route and re-attached hoses with little success. I hope Epson realizes that when we see such epidemic problems with their line of printers, we won't be purchasing 100 more of them next budget cycle. I guess it's back to HP.
