Go to control program and select color or black, new or used, close out and try a test page.
Lexmark tech support has this problem (as well as others) documented on their web site...keyed to your printer model (Z-12)

I bought a new ink cartridge and it worked perfect. Hope this helps.

My Lexmark has a problem. their is a squar black plastic peice behind it and also a spring that goes with it , they fell out when i pulled the ink jet out to change them as they were empty.
now i do not know how to put it back in. Hazel

Turned out the Lexmark Z32 color cartridge was leaking and showed 1/3 full when it was empty. Cleaned as instructed and put in New color cartridge. I am now one happy puppy. Thank you Big Time! I just put a new black cartride in it and a new color cartride in it.
Help. I can't afford to buy another printer.

I did two things. I removed the color cartridge and continued to print in black for several days. Then I refilled the color cartridge with color ink and got ink on the interior of the printer. I cleaned the ink off of the interior of the printer and installed a new color cartridge, but still no color. Color cartridge contacts are clean. There are no error messages. Running windows xp pro and usb cable. Port and drivers are OK. What can I do to fix the problem?

On the multi function machine seems to be a coating on the metal rod that the cartridges travel on. Just wipe this rod with a kleenex and the problem seems to go away. Somehow it presents a drag on the cartridges and causes an error.

It will work on my Toshiba laptop but no matter what i do the e-machine/Lexmark X73 will not print to gether!
I wonder if Lexmarks has made a software fix for their software so that it will print on all machines?

The cable is almost as expensive as the printer, so I just replaced the printer. I have read about this problem in several forums - I wonder if this is a defect Lexmark needs to address?? Her printer has stopped printing, it used to work fine. I've updated and reinstalled the driver a number of times and it still does not work. The driver is fine and there is no error or conflict. I can get the printer to work if I am printing out a diagnostic sheet or cleaning it, but if I try to print a document (even from wordpad) it doesn't work. It will tell me the printing is complete when nothing has happened. It is set as the default printer in windows.
Does anyone have a clue what is going on? The lexmark site was of absolutely no help.

I had to remove the flippy thing in back to get a paper jam out and now I think I am putting it back in the wrong way or something fell off. It won't automatically flip up when a paper is coming through, it just forces the paper up and jams on top. It's not being sent through after printing.
YIPES! I can't find a diagram anywhere.

I've just spent most of the morning trying to drill holes in the top of my color cartridge too because it wouldn't come off. I hope we can both find an answer to this one soon!

Paper from tray 2 jams in the machine after printing about 3/4 of the page, and if you look a second page is trying to feed for the bottom tray(tray 2) Any suggestions? Could it be the autocomp in 2nd tray?

"problems communicating with the printer" and won't print. When I reboot computer it goes into recognizing new hardware and I go into a vicious circle where it says it is already installed. I have a Lexmark xp x84x85.The problem I have been having is I had a Voondo trojan horse virus.I have symantic by Norton.I quarintined the virus.It seems to take the lexmark driver printer and steal the program.Isen't that a copyrite violation?Who ever put this virus on the web sould be prosecuted? I had the printer removed three times.The only thing I could do is expunge the file and reload the driver and restart.Still it happened until I found the files the voondo was hiding in.Then I quarintined the virus.I believe I need a new driver program for my printer?As far as the stealing.I hope you can prosecute this Idiot who put the virus on the web.Perhaps by tracing the source? sincerly;Mr.Robert Phelps.

In inserted a new black cartridge and took the color out and shook it and returned it. When I closed the door, the cartridge carrier pulled the cartridge hard from the left to the right. The power light blinks constantly, and I cannot turn it off at the power light. Were you able to fix yours?

I have heard from other people that the 3 in 1 x63 does not "like" the usb port connection. please help if anyone has any suggestions on this situation, other than tossing it!!!

And will refill a lexmark printer's cartridges, both color and black, 20 and 50 respectively. It should work. Lexmark cartridges use a technology called Thermal printing which means ink is heated to about 30° Celcius before being injected into paper. So there is 2 kinds of inks so far, Water based and pigmented or some call it oil based. So Lexmark uses the 2nd one. So there should be no problem, after filling it with ink try using a paper tissue and apply a little pressure with it on the ink cartridge head until a line of ink appears. This is to pull ink out of the cartridge and then try printing, it should work.

| Lexmark X73 and Win98SE - User Intervention Error by Lex Mark8792 (2/27/05 6:59 PM) | + / - | Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it? Spent way too much time on the phone with Lexmark - installing, uninstalling, purging, downloading. Every time I call, I get a different procedure but no success. Problem going on for almost a year (since bought it).
PROBLEM: If I leave the USB cable plugged into the printer and THEN power up the computer, I get "user intervention" when trying to print. If I leave it unplugged and then power up, 2/3 of the time it works fine. The other 1/3 of the time I get user intervention error again. The only consistent way to fix this problem is to shut down, unplug, reboot.
Lexmark has given me dozens of procedures - none of which work.
The USB card/cable work find with cameras, so I'm at a loss on this one.

Printer is Not Detected During InstallationID:ENUS4614 First you need to make all of your files visible. To do this:
Right click the Start button and click Explore.
Click on Tools in the menu bar and select Folder Options.
Click the View tab and select Show Hidden Files and Folders.
Click OK and close the Explorer window.
Click on Start, Search (search all files and folders).
In A word or phrase in the file, type VID_043.
Under the Look in: box, browse to the C:\Windows\inf folder. Note: Some systems may have the Windows directory named as Winnt.
If you find some files with a file name ending in 9x.inf, right click the file and select Open. If there is any reference to Lexmark in this file, create a folder on your desktop called Lexmark and move the file to that folder.
You will probably find the following files also:
lexusb.inf
lxbahid.inf
lxbausb.inf
lxbasc9x.inf
oemxx.inf
Move these files out of the inf folder to the Lexmark folder on the desktop and perform the search again. This time they should all be gone because you are now searching in the C:\Windows\inf folder.
Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. If the Add New Hardware Wizard appears, cancel it. Important: Don't use the plug and play installations.
Install the driver again from the CD or downloaded driver.
Reboot the PC.
Look in the Device Manager for any yellow (!) or USB composite device, human interface devices (HID), or imaging devices. If you find one, right click it and go to Properties.
Update the driver. You may want to search for a suitable driver. (Note: This is recommended.) When you see the search results, select one of the other drivers for installation, then click Next. Use the Microsoft file, usbprint.inf.
Finish that installation, reboot and try to print again.

To check the service:
right click "My Computer" -> Manage > "Services and Applications" > services

Then I noticed a buzzing sound coming from the printer even when it was turned off. I unplugged the power cord and noticed the voltage box on the power supply cord had started to melt. Have you found anything else that works? It seems to be a fault in design as far as I can see.

Thow them in the dumpster and spend over $100 on another brand of inkjet.

I hope my suggestions to you will be helpfull...
1.Check- The time out period may be too short ...Go to Start - settings -control panel click the printer icon - go to properities - click on details and increase the value.
Make sure you entered the correct port and your printer is online.
Check your disk to make sure you have enough space to install the printer. Make sure when you check the wires that they are not just connected but are tightly plugged in. You may want to connect the small wire behind your computer to a wall outlet verses a master power connector. After checking everything re-install your printer then reboot.
2. Have you moved your tower ( computer ) around lately?
You may have loosen the mother board and connection to your printer. Open the cover to the tower and make sure the mother board is intack. Check to see if anything is loose.
If so, tighten the mother board and try again to install your printer with you Lexmark disk. If you do not have the disk, You can obtain what you need to install your printer from the Lexmark website. Find the Win program click onto it. Then the Lexmark model number of your printer. Then click on downloads.Download and unzip the installation files. Now your readey to reinstall your printer! Good Luck !...

Then have to go change all printer preferences to black ink only. Went and got new x85, upgrade for better photo pint resolution, otherwise the same all-in-one flatbed printer. Low and behold, same problem after a few sheets of color. Wasted a couple of cartridges on this one too. Now ready to trash both...I hope someone can help me! Cant really afford to buy a third now just to have color but I need to print my photos! Please point me in the right direction....What have I done wrong?? Thanks!

If you are be aware that you can only usually do this refilling approx 5 or 6 times! After which the sponge or the paper gauze inside this cartridge dries up and does not allow any more ink to flow through! Or you will get a full page which will print, and then go to do the same thing again and you will get no colour print whatsoever, or you get like Rainbow drags through the picture. If this is the case i would suggest you replace this cartridge altogether.If it is a large Cartridge one which to me looks like a council refuse wheelie bin, i am not sure about these, but if you have what is known as a colour 26 or 27 cartridge than this is where i am coming from....Hope this helps!

In the end it was a problem due to the fact that i had touched the face of the receiving part where the colour cartridge makes contact with and there must have been some static there? I dont know how robust this system is but i ended up replacing the printer!

Well, I thought...I'll just go out and get another printer.
So I went out and bought a Lexmark X5270.
I installed it under Windows Me and it worked fine.
Then I need to upgrade my Operating System since I was having
a problem upgrading my Norton to the 2005 version...but that's
another story.
To make a long and frustrating story short...
After upgrading my system to Windows XP Home Edition, the X5270
now doesn't work. It worked DURING the Windows upgrade...but
not after the upgrade. So I reinstalled the X5270 driver.
The X5270 driver installation(s) seemed to go OK, but
when I try to print, I get a communications error...like my PC
doesn't know the printer is there, or doesn't know where it is.
I went to the Lexmark website, found something that looked like
it might address the problem, but I need to print it out since it
looks like a complicated process and I'm not a computer guru.
But guess what? I DON'T HAVE A PRINTER!!!
Has anyone else experienced any communications problems with this
particular printer? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Other than trying to get my money back and buying an HP printer?
BTW, the copier works fine...so the machine is working.

1) TAKE OUT POWER COR. Take off encoder strip. There is a hook and each side of the printer. First take the one on the left side by pulling the hook GENTLY so the strip become loose and unhook it. now for the right side you must push the strip in so it come of the hook and then take out.
2) Clean the strip with a wet towel (use alochol is needed). The reinsert the strip back in by first pushing the right side and hooking it. Then take the left side hok and pull it out a little bit. Put the stip bakc on and puch the hook back until the strip is tight.
3) Make sure stip is on the carrier so it can see it. This should be right where the strip naturally land. Behind the carreir ther is a litter cliff where the strip rest on.
4) TURN PRINTER ON.
THIS IS A DELICATE PROCESS> Never try to add to much pressure because it may damge your printer. If you are not comfotable doign this then call Laxmark...but it is not too hard.

Printer self check was sat, and windows sees it - but no communication when trying to print.
Did you get a report from your XP upgrade install that stated that the Lexmark 5200 Series software was incompatible with XP? I did.

It starts to print roughly 2-3 inches from the lefthand margin, then slams to one side of the printer and stops. The software says there is a problem with the "communication" but, no matter what I try, nothing seems to help. In addition, at the corner of each page I attempt to print, there is an ink bloch. Is this repairable or is the printer trio destined for the trash bin?

If you are refilling cartridges,
DO NOT LET THE INK RUN DRY! LEXS USE THERMAL PRINT HEADS, I.E. THEY HEAT THE INK TO EJECT IT. IF THERE IS NO INK, THE PRINT HEAD WILL OVERHEAT AND SELF-DESTRUCT, AS THERE IS NO HEAT SINK (FOUND ON OLDER THERMAL INKJETS) TO ABSORB THE HEAT.
Apparently it is Lexmark's intention that print heads self-destruct when they run dry, forcing the unwary luser to buy a new cartridge. They are refillable, but rather fragile. Therefore, if you insist on using Lexs, and intend to refill them, watch the ink quantity carefully and add ink when you suspect its beginning to empty. Too full is better than ruining a possibly refillable cartridge.
Epsons dont have this problem as they use piezo-electric print heads which are supposed to last for the life of the printer, not just for a single 20ml of ink.

So if you ever need to use it agian the driver is there! Or Back the driver file up and save it to CD-Data disc....Hope this helps??

But when i print a jpeg pic, it prints black n white. I am using win2000.I could not find the usual color option check box that comes in printer set up properties.
So I right click on the printer and go in to the properties. There is color management tab with manual and automatic options.
And the printer features in General tab mentions "color: No" but no option anywhere to change this.
Any help appreciated.

In your box there was this big sheet of paper that gives step by step info on what to do,if you follow it to the tee it will work fine, it may be like mine and read 5200 series all-in-one but it will work just fine as 15 steps too, dang thats fast. If for some reason you miss placed it,off to the lexmark site you will need to go. Most mistake are made by getting it,pluging it up and hey it don't work,but now they went and installed the software and before pluging it up or waiting for the software to tell you to plug it up(USB CABLE) if this is the case remove the software, un plug the usb only follow the 15 steps and you will be a happy camper. Oh that Bill thing, just click cancel and install anyway, thats just another one of his kick back ideals.

Turn your printer off. Hold down the Stop/Clear key and power on your printer. HOld this key down until printer says ok. Your problem should be resolved. Your new ink cartridge should be full and any problem with printing should be resolved. This is a reset procedure, as outline in Lexmark web site. I was going nuts trying to resolve this. HOpe this helps.

| Lexmark X4250 communication problems by lamaroe (5/17/05 12:31 PM) | + / - | I've had a lot of trouble with my brand new Lexmark X4250 All-in-one print center. First, I couldn't install the software, but eventually figured out the error came from the install wizard on my computer rather than the driver. Now, I can't get the printer to print. The All-in-one center shows that it "cannot communicate" with the printer and I've tried everything including: checking properties to make sure bi-directional support is enabled, checking to make sure it's connected to a usb port, plugged and unplugged the usb, turned the printer on and off, reset numerous times, un and re-installation, troubleshooting using the Windows ME help and support wizard and the all-in-one support center troubleshooting, the latter being of absolutely no help at all (Check connections, reinstall were the only solutions). I have tried EVERYTHING you can think of and I am at my wit's end, and what makes it worse is that scan, copy, and fax work but it absolutely will not print! I am using Windows Millenium Edition. So now my questions are:
1-Does this sound like a problem with my computer system or the actual printer itself? I have some spyware and adware on my computer that I'm still trying to get rid of, so I was thinking that MAY be the cause?
2-If not, what can be done? I searched other suggestions for lexmark printers on this site and took out the ink cartridges and put them back in like suggested as a solution, but still nothing.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm told that this problem relates to the clear tape, the "alignment strip". There apears to be an optical reader behind the cartridge carrier. Is the clear strip supposed to be up in the cartridge carrier, or does it simply float behind it? (where it is now). Is there a schematic? How do you get the strip back where it's supposed to be?? After trying the carts individually ended up replacing the "new" color with an "old" color. That stopped the flashing and the printer worked. Putting the "new" one back restored the flashing problem. (It's been a couple of months since you posted maybe you resolved your issue)

Open thde printer, remove the color cartridge, close the printer, you will get a message asking whether the cartridge on the left is new or old. Open the printer again, put the new color cartridge, then respond with left new. This worked for me.

The problem at work was the newest version of winfas v 10. issues that I had the same errors with the dell at work, and have worse problems with all of my lexmarks.
If you send a file to print unplug your power cable and then replug in. I had to do this everytime I wanted to print with the dell.
I have to use only a usb cable to the back of my z22, it will give me the same error when I use the front usb, or if I use the serial printer cable. If that does not work. Then go to xp site or look at all of the various programs if you are using xp, check with the sites or search for the incompadibilty issues with other probrams and xp's ability to recognize the printer.

| Re: Lexmark Printer Problems by ANONYMOUS (6/22/05 7:12 PM) | + / - | Hi there, Got the problem fixed. I really should have put more info when I posted the problem / request. I'm running Win ME (which I learned off the old Dish Network's show "TVTECH.COM" is the worst Windows program created)!!
Finally, a Lexmark tech (who seemed very knowledgeable {this problem stumped the first two techs) suggested that I had a printer spool problem in that the correct print message was not being sent to the printer. He had me do a couple of steps, but that didn't help. He was probably partially right, but maybe for not the reason that he thought.
I gave up messing with it, followed the advice in the manual which said that if there was a problem with the sofware, one should un-install the program and reinstall it. Ha! Upon re-loading it would not install because it said that there was no connection to the printer. So, I suspected the USB cable (which was new, had to purchase separately, because the stingy Lexmark folks don't provide a USB cable with the P-6250 / All In One Home Center)package. I changed ports, to no avail. So, I put it back to the original port. Somehow, I think the cable connected and the computer saw that I had some new hardware.
The installation instructions said to "Cancel all new Hardware screens" that appear as the program was installing. Finally after the installation kept stopping, I clicked "OK" on the Windows New software / hardware screen (that kept coming up) and the program installed. So, either the installation program was faulty the first time I installed it and the new USB was possibly intermittenly bad. Oh yeah, I replaced the USB Cable and yes, I had done the latest driver update.
Anyway, the printer now does its' job in the "Lexmark Fast Pics" section by printing out great color pictures. I'm almost afraid to check out the Scanner (it was working) and the other features of this all in one gadget)!!!!!!!! But, the photos are spectacular in their color, etc. Yeah, I was printing from photos on my hard drive, which I had run through the Adobe photo editor.

the connections are all good
The hardware is all working
The belts are clean, and no build up of ink
But The Black Cartridge WILL STILL NOT PRINT...
Brand New Cartridge..(2nd one bought) thinking the 1st 1 was on shelf too long, at 26.95 a whack!
You don't state your model, But mine is the X75, and the color, Fax, And Scanner work Perfect, But no black ink will print....

I got the ink to flow normally an put the cart. back in but still no color ink....I noticed that I was not prompted like I am for the black cart. if the cart. is new or old. Amazing the total ingratitude people have when they are expecting free help and don't get any. I'm sure they don't complain to the mfgs. when they pay $30 or more for tech support over the phone and get useless advice that does nothing. When you're paying absolutely nothing, you have no right to bitch about it!

Turned off printer, moved cartridges back and forth as well as resecuring the lids. Turned printer back on and same error message comes up. Have disconnected/reconnected both cable and power cord, and have rebooted several times. Same error message comes up when printer turned on. Anyone have a solution to this problem? Have not yet replaced either cartridge. Thank you.

Came across a reply dated 5/8/05 referencing a Lexmark X5150 Encoder Strip Repair. This provided me with enough information that although I did not have to perform all steps, I did something from these instructions that reset my printer so it is now working. My thanks to the provider, 'asdf' who had responded to an inquiry by MICKIESABIN dated 4/13/05.

the unbelievably low-tech solution of putting boiled water in a mug, sitting the cartridge in it for 20 minutes and cleaning/drying with kitchen tissue worked first time
maybe it applies to all inkjet printers - i don't know
but worth a try if your lexmark cartridges are playing up
and let's face it - no printer/cartridge manufacturer is going to publicise this and lose out on cartridge sales

Then try to install and also if you had it for awhile you may want to check the printer head to see if it is not offline.

I am running Win200, have just purchased an x1180 and get a similar message "unable to communicate with printer" when I try to print. Sometimes it works though, But I can scan ok. For example, I drag and drop a text file onto the printer name in the printers folder, then it works,but when I try to print from MS-Word, I get the error message. The install was not easy neither, as Windows complained about an "OLD" 16 bit intall? Really messy job. The CD's are marked x1100 and this is what windows finds as well - nothing about an x1180!.
Still trying to fix it....

I made sure:
The USB cable and power cable is not damaged.
The All-In-One's Power light doesn't ccome on and the power.
Power cable near printer is warm, but no power seems to be going to printer. Any suggestions for a fix?

The firts time I stripped and cleaned the printer, especially the encoder strip at the back of the printer. It solved the problem for a litle while. Now it is back. In the mean time I have heard that the cartriges can be the problem and also the shaft could be dry. I haven't hade time to test this yet but that is all I know about the problem. Hope it help's you

I'm discouraged to learn that they are nearly as expensive as the printer itself. I've had my printer for two years, probably used it ten times, spent a small fortune on ink, had to install it so many times I've lost count, and now this.
I certainly hope they are looking into this/these problem(s), because at this point, I'm wishing I had never purchased mine.

| Re: Re: Lexmark Printer Problems by Anonymous (8/7/05 1:04 PM) | + / - | refilling cartridges is an easy task, but it is best i think to keep two sets handy, keep one filled with the jets taped shut and sealed in a bag while you print with the other. my experience is to leave the freshly refilled cartridge out of the printer for at least overnite. sometimes if you put it back in right away , it will print a test page just fine, then it wont print at all...look to see if it leaked into the carriage..if it did, remove the cartridge and clean it with distilled water to remove excess ink..also, ink can collect around the jets and contacts and cause a cartridge short error,when this happens, you may try soaking the print head of the cartridge in water overnite , and then dry if completely. (be sure the cartridge is dry and not leaking when you reinstall it.) With the black cartridge , if ink is not coming out of the jets, place it on a wet paper towel to get the ink flowing. also you may have to clean the jet area by wiping laterally with a wet paper towel to remove dried ink. cartridges should be refilled before they run dry to prevent the sponge inside from drying out.
One more thing , if you need to clean ink from the CARRIAGE contacts, unplug the power to prevent shorting the CARRIAGE, this can ruin your printer even though it seems to be working fine. (pages will print blank) Make sure the Carriage is dry before restoring power!

I am told if I had not been home it could had cought on fire. Now the printer is damaged do to the problem with the power supply. I called the Lexmark People and bottom line, warranty is over...,is there something else and end of story.
Purchased a HP printer. Those out there, Lexmark don't care much about customer service. I have purchase over $300 in cartriges to this Lexmark z65 and paid for the printer $200. Bad investment. Won't purchase another Lexmark product.

Call Lexmark, you need a new power-cable. I had same problem, same 2years. My power-pack melted and burnt out...
The power-pack damaged the printer...(need buy new one!)
Next printer you get, connect to power supply and turn-off after use. This will extend life of printer power supply.

The unit will print a test page. If the page prints out the printer heads are good. If the software was installed correctly the problem could be in the usb software of your computer.

There's a possibility of the print head circuitry at fault. You stated the cartridges are new. If both cartridges are new from the box and no new programs were installed prior to the problem then there is a strong possibility the problem is in the circuitry of the unit. You said you print a test page and it comes out blank, meaning the signal from your computer is received by the printer and starts printing (blank). Check this out, remove the cartridges and inspect the plastic circuitry on the back to the print head and at the bottom of the cartridge (don't touch the circuitry with fingers), also inspect the cartridge holder in the printer and clean with clean paper towel (both). A break in the circuitry will cause same problem you are having. Everything should look smooth. Had at one time same problem, damaged to both print cartridges due to many sheets of paper (project paper) loaded at once when the paper loaded and print heads hit the paper damaging the foil circuits on the cartridges.
end of story, call Lexmark, tech support, cry some and see if they can help out...

Since then, everytime I print in colour, a blue "overprint' is printed on anything I try to print whether graphics or text. It looks like the text has been highlighted in blue, and if a photo, blue printed over the entire photo. Can anyone please help???

I have checked USB connections (channel 1), have unistall and reinstalled by disc, still nothing and have even refilled an old cartridge to see if that works which it does not. I had posted about a problem (8-5-05/9pm) with my printer cord, and have since received word from Lexmark that they will replace the cord free of charge (my warranty had expired). Their response was fast, and the cord is en route right now.
I know others have mentioned that Lexmark's support isn't that good, but I'm more than happy with my experience with them, so don't discount them as a viable option to your printer problems.

I called Dell and they said my printer was out of warranty and I would have to buy a new one. Ha! I asked exactly what the code described and they told me it had to do with the print head encoder strip and that the controller chip was probably bad. I looked at the almost clear plastic strip that threads through the print head and goes from one end to the other of the print head mechanism's frame. I wipped it with a micro fiber cloth, carefully moving the print head back and forth out of my way. It seems to have cured my problem and shows exactly how much the techs from another hemisphere know. I suggest using your index and middle finger tips to gently squweeze the cloth over the strip. Try not to flex it or twist it too much. Good luck!

Then I moved my desk to face a different direction and had to unplug and replug everything in. When I finished, everything worked except my printer. A messege came up saying that it didn't recognize the driver. So I tried everything, including uninstalling the program. Now, another error messege comes up saying that I'm not allowed to install it because it's not good for MS-DOS and Windows applications. It was just fine before, and I don't understand. I don't want to tell my parents because they're already mad at me. Any ideas?

Before you replace this printer, just purchase a new power adapter cord like the one which came with the printer. If you can't find one, let me know. I also have an x83 which is not working properly (constant paper jams, but no sign of paper being jammed) so will probably have the power adapter cord (which is like new) available if I decide to dispose of the x83.

Had the same problem with our x6150, and i open up the lid and let the ink cartridges come to the center, in the back where the ink cartridges go back to the left and set, until you start printing, there is two little like strips that stick up, i took and cleaned them with head cleaner and ours starting working again, try that and get back with me and tell me if you got your's going. my e-mail address is adamhughsdad@aol.com

See if any other printers are listed that are no longer in use. Right click on each one in the list you no longer use, then left click on delete in the currently displayed window.
Go to control panel. Click on Add/Remove programs; select any program with the word Lexmark in it. Click remove at the far right button for each you wish to remove.
Start fresh download of new drivers for your printer at Lexmark.com/downloads

I have tried a new black cartridge and a refilled black cartridge, but no change. It won't print anything in black. It prints okay in color, and it will print a black document that gets faxed in the color mode, and it will copy a black document in the color mode. In both cases, it comes out in a pleasant green color.

I assume you have a Lexmark 5270 all in one printer.
You have to be able to look down the slot where the micro switch is.
There are 2 plastic tabs that are keeping the cover from opening all the way up. Gently push these tabs to the right as you lift the cover.(inside on the left and right back)
Looking at the printer with the cover open you will see a slot about 4" from the right side back.
Look in and see if there is a black plastic lever. This is what trips the micro switch on an off indicating if the cover is open or closed and brings the ink cartriges to the center. If you don't see it and only see the circuit board, then maybe it got knocked off when the cover was closed (like mine did).
If it's not there, the steps that I had to do to get it back on were very hard and frustrating. Lexmark didn't make it easy to get inside and at one point I thought I was going to break the plastic case prying it off. You might be better off having a technician fix it.

| Solution to my Lexmark Printer Problems by Gretchen (9/24/05 10:22 AM) | + / - | I have just spoken with Lexmark, and if anyone has the same problem as I did, where a new cartridge is not working (in my case, color), it is possible that the cartridge connections are no longer working. If you call Lexmark (1-800-332-4120)and give them all the data they need, they will send you another cartridge as long as you were using the correct Lexmark cartridge in the first place. The new cartridge worked for me and now I can brighten things up once again. :)

I found that by either topping up the colours or by changing the colour cartridge worked... I presume that it was an inballance of the colours and that by following the steps it printed perfectly.

I had purchased a Lexmark 1130 at which i decided to cut corners and not pay the ridiculous amounts lexmark are charging for their cartridges, No Instead I aquired a refill kit and carefully filled the Colour cartridge at which i had been doing for some time and worked fine! That is until one day i printed a Picture and once this had started to print i was horrified to find that the Pic looked as though i had taken sand paper to it.
I then found that the printer was not printing in colour "Oh What"? i stripped the cartridge cleaned the nozzles put it back in and still nothing but black printed perfectly.
I decided to buy another printer as something was definitely wrong with this one? So i bought another lexmark but an 1180 which was more or less exact to my 1130. What a fool i can hear some say!! Yes i know i should have ditched lexmark right there and then. so my 1180 was going along just fine until one day approx 4 months later the colour stopped printing, this time i had used no refill cartridge i bought an original Lexmark Cartridge and the colour stopped printing. So hasten to add i could not find the receipt for my printer so i contacted lexmark to which would have been easier just to have gone straight to MI5, They told me they could not help unless i had my purchase reciept this was frustrating as i told them it was down to your cartridge this happened but to no avail totally unsympathetic. So i decided to ditch this printer! I took the advice of a lady from this site and i did exactly what she said and aquired a much better printer a Cannon PixmaiP3000 and i have never looked back since! My advice to all you printer owners out there if you have Lexmark throw it in the bin where it belongs because this stuff is rubbish! I still use mine for the scanner but the printer is totally gone.If you are toying with the idea of buying a printer dont Buy Lexmark!! and dont replace your lexmark with another Dummy.ANYBODY THAT ATTEMPTS TO REFILL THEIR CARTRIDGES RUN THE RISK OF DAMAGING THE COLOUR PRINTING SIDE OF THIS MACHINE! I dont know what it is that actually stops the printer from working but i guess it might be the viscosity or something in the Ink that Lexmark recognises as its own or a foreign ink? Why my 1180 shut down i dont know because this was an original cartridge. Any cartridge which has the print head within the cartridge cannot be refilled i dont care what any of you say "YOU CANNOT REFILL THESE CARTRIDGES" and if you do yes your printer may work for a while but eventually it will stop!
The Cannon Pixma iP3000 you can refill these if you wish but it aint worth it! as the replacement Cartridges cost approx £20.00 to replace all of them! So for the price of one small lexmark Cartridge from the 1130/1180 you can buy all the cartridges you need for your Cannon at less the price it will cost you for one Colour Cartridge on the Lexmark! And you can print CD's and DVD's with this baby or print photo's straight from your digital camera. keep the lexmark for its scanner and use your Cannon for all your printer needs. This is an excellent bit of kit and well done to Cannon!!! Lexmark I'm sorry people but these printing machines i would compare to a skoda they are crap and not worth the money they are asking for them! Lexmark get your act together you are ripping people off with these problomatic machines which do not do what the label says!And your over the top charging of cartridges which contain as much ink as i can spit! CRUSADE!! DUMP YOUR LEXMARK NOW BEFORE IT DUMPS YOU!

| Re: Re: Lexmark Printer Problems by Anonymous (10/7/05 1:05 AM) | + / - | You dont state whether you have bought an original Lexmark cartridge or one of these refactory issues? if you have bought a product which is not genuine consider your printer bound for the scrap heap! there is no cure for this problem and you will find the printer has shut down because it has registered that the ink inside the cartridge which is a remanufactured product is foreign.
If you have use a refill kit forget it also as this will damage your machine!
There must also be genuine lexmark cartridges which for some strange reason also cause the printer to pack up? This might be due to shelf life being out of date? or something wrong with the Print Head itself? You must never touch the print head either.
If i was you i would suggest you Dump this pile of rubbish and go check out the Cannon Pixma iP3000 which is relativly cheapand will end all your problems beleive me. Sacrifice around £80.00 and get your self a better machine! keep the Lexmark for it's scanner!! Go check out http://www.amazon.co.uk. here you will find this baby!
Sorry cant help further but i hope i may have given you a better alternative!

I removed the paper (a slight tension jam), canceled the print job and changed the print cartridge(it needed to be replaced). When I attempted to reprint the document the lights continued to blink. The directions state that it could be a "stalled print cartridge". I have tried everything to fix it! I have reinstalled the printer cartridge, unplugging from the CPU, reinstalling the printer, pushed the two buttons in various combinations to no avail!!
How do you unstall a stalled print cartridge? Got any suggestions?

After reading all of this website I phoned the Lexmark support number with my till receipt in my hand; I got the number in one of the white manuals (it diverted to India). Lexmark spent 5 minutes on the phone with me before deciding that it was a faulty sensor and they sent me a brand new replacement X3350 within 3 working days ... it was posted in Germany/Switzerland and therefore was only missing a UK power lead, otherwise it was the full package. It takes the same cartridges as the old, so I ended up with spares there. They said I must dispose of the old printer in my own way, preferably via a recycling scheme, perhaps using a dealer. Basically, the Lexmark service was 100% perfect. But maybe they have had so many calls on this and are reading the internet.

It should be snug to the paper but still letting the paper go through. I had the same problem until I moved this tab snug.

I cannot scan to word nor can i create a text scan(everything is jpeg via lexmark photo editor) does anyone have any suggestions and or would anyone be willing to send, give me the software that would allow this function. Once I reink the black, it still tells me that I have low ink. I called customer support and they were no help at all. They told me to not reink my own cartridges that I had already reinked cause it would mess up my printer. And that there was no reset source. Any ideas?

Seems like the cartridge gets dirtied up.
A new toner cartridge fixes the problem but that's an expensive way to print envelopes.
Any experience on keeping the envelopes clean?
Wiping the printer insides, etc. don't help.
Printer is a Lexmark Optra T612.

BTW, the customer support statement that re-inking can harm the printer is horsesh1t. They really need to get a grip. I'll check back if I find a solution.

Anonymous, (I know there are many of you but the one with unwanted characters) - this normally is a software or cable fault. Make sure that when you go to print it is going to the correct printer. Try changing the cable or even try deleting the driver & re-installing.

THE MESSAGE.....CARTRIDGE ERROR 50C is a haunting...after purchasing a ton of replacements it's still not working...Paper jams, screwed up copies....We should all protest Lexmark for creating more crap than good products...I know of 5 other friends who bought these on sale at a WAL-MART...we all got screwed....SCREW LEXMARK and their customer service is all STONED....JoJo JOHNS

Wise up people Lexmark are taking you all for a ride "BUY A CANNON"Face up to it your printer is dead and if it aint dead yet it will soon be! I have two of them still sat down here on the floor and Lexmark has not given me my money back for either of them and they can see they are bran new! Hardly touched by mankind.
I have been to hell and back and wasted lots of money trying to get these pathetic machines to work and they dont work! DO NOT USE REMANUFACTURED CARTRIDGES EVEN THOUGH THE MAKER STATES THEY WILL WORK ON LEXMARK THEY DO NOT! AND YOUR MACHINE WILL SEE TO IT THAT THE COLOUR PRINTING PACKS UP.
LEXMARK RESPOND TO ME PLEASE I AM STILL AWAITING YOUR REPLY AT WHICH SO FAR YOU HAVE IGNORED. ALL I WANT IS THAT YOU TAKE THESE MACHINES BACK AND REIMBURSE ME! I DO NOT WANT ANOTHER ONE OR ANY NO FRILLS TALK! APPROX £145.00 INCLUDING ALL THE WASTE ON YOUR SO CALLED LEXMARK CARTRIDGES I WASTED MONEY ON.
AND IF I DONT SOUND HAPPY BELIEVE ME THIS IS NOTHING COMPARED TO THE RAGE THAT I FEEL THE WAY JOE PUBLIC IS BEING RIPPED OFF BY YOU!

I have just installed a new cartridge, cleaned the wiper at the maintenance station, cleaned the cartrige nozzle and I am still getting the white lines.

The roller that catches the paper is unalligned causing the roller to roll but it will not feed any type of paper. I called the manufacturer and they recommended that I buy a new printer. I am not made of money (which is why I purchased this printer) Anyone out there know any tricks for me to fix this?

Go to : http://www.lexmark.com Click on Downloads and Drivers and select your model and click on download. Up at the top select Desktop on the menu and it will download to your desktop.

When I sat the printer back down and looked into where the paper goes, I saw an inkpen. I removed the inkpen and it is working fine. I suggest shaking the printer upside down. Maybe this will work.
