It may be the cartridge...try removing it and then reseating it. If that doesn't do it, clean the contacts with water or isopropyl alcohol.(power off when you do this)
You did not mention the COLOR of the led and that too is a clue. I just happened to think...this may be the "waste ink" full problem.So...
Do a search on this site and see if you can find a link to Russ' "Older Canon Printer Pages". Also try "Canon waste ink" as a search subject.
My BJC 4550 has both leds are blinking. I have cleaned and aligned the ink cartridge, but to no avail. An error message comes up sometimes that indicate there is a driver problem.
Can you help? Nelson

It's a problem with the fixing film in the fuser assembly. The fixing film shredded and needs to be replaced. We can probably supply you with the correct fixing film. We would have to know the length of the film. Since part of it is probably gone, the length between the 2 plastic end caps. There aren't any instructions on replacement, you'll have to figure that out on your own.
I have a Canon Pixma MP830 multifuntion printer. It is displaying Error 6A00 on the LCD and Serive Error 5C10 on the computer...what needs to be fixed and how do I fix it?

@KLL The error code you have there refers to a Harddrive error in the copier, You may need to get onto a canon service rep to format it and load new firmware, or even replaced the drive.
@b0b1r Your error means the waste ink pads are full, its recommended you get them replaced but they should hold out for a bit. to get the printer going again you can follow these steps and reset the counter.
1) With the printer power turned off, while pressing the Resume/Cancel button, press and hold the Power button. (DO NOT release the buttons. The Power LED lights in green to indicate that a function is selectable.) 2) While holding the Power button, release the Resume/Cancel button. (DO NOT release the Power button.) 3) While holding the Power button, press the Resume/Cancel button 2 times, and then release both the Power and Resume/Cancel buttons. (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the Alarm and Power LEDs light alternately, Alarm in orange and Power in green, starting with Alarm LED.) 4) When the Power LED lights in green, press the Resume/Cancel button the specified number of time(s)according to the function listed in the table below. (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the Alarm and Power LEDs light alternately, Alarm in orange and Power in green, starting with Alarm LED.)
