I have a X63 all in one and it faxes and prints fine but the copy & scan does'nt work an error comes up & says something is using the port but nothing is using the usb port. Help please!!!!!!!!

having problems with printer, will print fine for few days, then it says printer is busy, try later. cannot find the problem to fix it. have to uninstall and reinstall everytime it does this. please help

I have the same problems. I have repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled the X63 software and I still get the "port not ready" error on my WinXP OS system. I called Lexmark technical help today and they told me if I have Viatech USB drivers to go to the Viatech website and download and install new ones which should fix the problem. I also found another message using Google search engine that claimed the USB cable that came with the printer was causing the problem.

I've talked with Lexmark techs, uninstalled and reinstalled our X63 more times than I can count, and we still get the "Printer is Busy" message once or twice a month. Also, during reinstall, usually get a USB device unrecognized message and have to unplug the printer's power cord as well as the USB to get this error resolved. Have probelms with the copy and scan functions as well. Any insights (other than trash it - which I'm ready to do) would be appreciated.

I have been trying to get lexmark tech support to help me correct the "printer busy" "try again later" error for almost a year. I finally got them to send me a new printer and guess what I still have the same problem. There tech support must be out of the country because they called me on Thanksgiving day! They do not have a clue what is causing the problem but they know they have it. If you go to the lexmark web site they have discontinued selling the X63 and have pulled it off the shelves! If anyone has information on how to correct this problem I would be glad to hear for you! Is there any interest in something like a class action suit?

I too am having the printer messages and USB cable messages. I even went out and bought a new USB cable, but that did not fix anything. I have had this printer for 18 months and it has been the most miserable item I have ever purchased. Help.. I will do anything. I am even going to buy a new printer soon if this is not resolved.

OK, I have had enough......I replaced the usb cable with a 2.0 the best one they had. Still have the problem. I found a web site to submit for a class action. I will keep you posted.

I also have this problem with my x63 and have reinstalled the software more times than I can count.

Additionally, I have a problem with the power supply. There seems to be a faulty connection where the cord plugs into the printer. That area can sometimes heat up to where I can smell the plastic getting too hot. If I jiggle the cord or unplug it and plug it back in, this fixes the overheating and also sometimes fixes the "printer busy' message. Wierd but true.

Let me know how the class action suit goes. I would love a refund on this hunk of junk.

Dang, we just hooked ours up today (had it for over a year and it just sat there), and it took us forever just to install it and get it up. I too have some of the same problems and the message that pops up when you try to scan always says that the port is 'busy'. From the looks of it, our port isnt busy and this must be a crappy thing but theyve always been reliable in the past. Anyone help on this situation?

Also, when I try to work it from the scanner itself, it pops up on that little, hard to read, rectangle saying PC not available. Its not even located in our Printer and Hardware on the Control Panel but it claims to be installed and we have the shortcuts and such to it...maybe thatll help someone who knows?

I have had this printer for over a year and it receives faxes and prints usually pretty well. We never have been able to get it to actually scan very well.

My problem now is that it is giving me this error:

User intervention required

and does not print my items but rather places them in a printer que. I cannot find the meaning of this error or how to fix it in my help area.

I have seen your various errors that you are having trouble with and what we discovered by trial and error is that several of the Lexmarks do not operate properly with Windows ME but will work with the older Windows 95-98. Go figure! I have Windows 98 and my husband has Windows ME and my printer cannot work with his computer.

So, do any of you know what that error message means and do you think I need to reinstall?

Please advise.

Well lexmark has replaced my X63 with yet another refurbed one. This one doesn't recongnize the cartridges. I am waiting word from an attorney to see if we have a class action suit. Please keep posting your problems so we can use them for referrence if this comes to pass.

The printer worked the first time I installed it; however, I turned off the computer. It wouldn't work the next time! Regretfully I had thrown out the boxes or it would have been returned. I've tried downloading different drivers and all the fixes the techs on the site give. Nothing works. The only way I can get it to work is to clean and reinstall it anytime I want to print anything using my computer. Very unhappy!

You have to uninstall ALL of your printer drivers (if you have more printers than just the x63) and then reinstall the lexmark first. I tried it with out uninstalling all the drivers and it doesn't work. I haven't tried it with all drivers uninstalled yet because my lexmark now is not recognizing the ink cartriges and won't let me do anything with it! Let me know if it works for anyone. I am waiting for my fourth replacement.

Will give it a try, but some of us only have the one printer, and have gone to great pains to make sure everything associated with the X63 is cleaned off the machine when after the uninstall. I'll give it a try; keep sending any info you find.

I've had my lousymark x63 for a year, and its an ongoing battle. can't print for days sometimes, when I think I've figured it out, I throws me another curve. I will gladly join a class action lawsuit. the mental anguish alone would be worth millions, even if I don't see a cent, it would be worth it to let lexmark understand they can't make crap and get away with it. I bought a Z23 before I bought the x63, I should have learned my lesson, at least it would print, not very well, but it wouldn't be an exercise in futility. I know the techreps laugh when a x63 call comes in, knowing they get to play the game. they get their laugh in. I hear the snickers in the background. the x63 is a corporate comedy relief, a vent for overworked techs that spend to many hours in a dimly lit office. I dunno, maybe I'm just cracking under the strain of frustration, please help!!!!!! find 'the' cure for the common x63! I've tried every cure on every site that comes up on a google search

We have had this printer over a year and now all of a sudden it won't print! We keep getting the error message of Printer not ready Device is busy try again later. It faxes and copies but won't print or scan. What can we do? Please let us know about the class action suit.

Ok I have now recieved my fourth printer from lexmark. Because my old one was under warrenty when I started calling them they have replaced it with a new X125 (not a refub X63 like before). Keep calling lemark tech support and have them send replacements. I will let you know if this one works. Still no info on the class action. I guess we don't have any class LOL.

Ok I've got the same 'printer busy' problem. I've just been on to the microsoft website and there is a download which is claiming to solve the problem of lexmark printers not responding. I don't know if it's any use yet but can't hurt to try.

Gil: Provide your PROOF OF PURCHASE [sales receipt/invoice] information to Lexmark, to show your purchase date. See if they will accept a copy of your P.O.P. for warranty verification, by faxing it in to them. Usually what happens, is that the equipment has passed the warranty time period from when it was actually produced and sold from the Lexmark Factory to the distributor, who in turn sold it to the dealer that you purchased it from. You may not have even filled out and sent in the warranty verification forms to Lexmark, or they may not have received and processed them yet. If that does not work, take the system back to where you bought it and let them know that Lexmark is not accepting it under warranty. Some dealors will take back equipment with-in 30 days, if it fails under warranty, just to keep their customers happy. Do not rely on that, because not all bussness' operate the same, or have the same return policies. You might want to actually call the store where you bought it and find out their return policy...Good Luck! Denny Conway

what a piece of junk!!! And the support is not much better. I have about the same problem as every one else says its busy and also says add right cartridge. I've uninstalled ans reinstalled at least 10 times no help removed the cartridge 3 times as explained no help cleared memory no help
emailed the support group they say remove the cartridge 3times . what a laugh I know this is a very inexpensive unit but for home use it should be fine. This piece of garbarge is a lemon and Lexmark knows it. They priced it low so alot of there buyers are low income people who think there getting a great deal. Shame on Lexmark!!!!
If there is a class action law suite you can bet I'll be signing up for it.

Thanks for the info on the class action lawsuit. I added my gripes to the list. Hope it helps someone out. Probably too late for me - yesterday I did what I should have done from the beginning - bought a HP printer.

After Lexmark told me X63 printer was out of warranty (it was purchased 24 Jan 2004) I sent Lexmark copy of proof of purchase. I told them I would take legal action but have had no reply.I have added my name to the lawsuit.

For what it's worth, I have also posted my name to the lawsuit. I finally uninstalled the x63 last night and am putting it in the garage until I hear yay or nay about the class action suit or at least until my wife gives it the heave ho. I guess it's good evidence until then.

I tackled the junk closet archive and fetched my HD Deskjet 660C that I stuffed in there after buying the x63. Installed it in 30 seconds. This thing still prints better than the x63 on its best day.

I think that I will research HP All In Ones as I know that I will miss the fax and copy features and HP has never let me down.

ok here I am again I just killed my lexmark x63!
took a hammer and smashed it to pieces lexmark will not answer my emails sent at least 20, finally talked to some in in tech. support told me my ink cartridge was bad told him it was the one that came with the damm thing he said they go bad he used a car for a example one day it runs next day it doesn't, can you belive that plus I had a hard time understanding him broken english. so today after reinstalling again I got a little angry tossed it out on my back porch and smashed it with a hammer. emailed lexmark corp. told them what I had done and explained it was a piece of junk and I was mailing it back to them in pieces. If I would have known Lexmark discontinued this piece of junk in Jan. 2003 never would have bought it. They new they were selling a product with many malfuctions and still sold it to to consumers who thought they were buying from a good company.I'm signing up for the lawsuite. Tell everyone you know about your problems everyone we tell that listens and doesn't buy Lexmark this is money out of lexmarks pocket remember WE ARE THE CONSUMERS tell everyone you know not to buy Lexmark!!!

I have had the Lexmark X63 for a year without a problem. Now I keep getting the "printer is busy" message and have to disconnect, delete and reinstall. The only thing we are doing different is we bought a Kodak digital camera and loaded the software for that. Could this be a problem?

Interesting note about the Kodak camera. About the same time my X63 started to fail, we also installed a Kodak DX3600.

Anybody else have the Kodak Easyshare software?

This printer is the biggest piece of crap I have ever owned. I get the 'Busy' message when its not busy. The only fix I find for this is to turn everything off, then turn the printer on first, plug in the usb second and then start windows. Seems to fix the problem for a while. The Lexmark stops my laptop from Hibernating.
Once i've depreciated this printer I will use the sledgehammer as someone else did. I will never ever buy a Lexmark printer ever again. I can't believe someone can actually build such junk.

I am so relieved to read all the messages - I thought I was doing something wrong and it turns out to be this stupid X63 - I wish I had known before I bought it!! Interesting about the Kodak camera - I purchased and installed a dvd cam and ever since then the printer has come up with busy and try again messages but I didn't connect the two things - It will be interesting if any one else has same problem other than that I too will take a hammer to it!!

I have had my lexmark X63 for over two years now and still have had no luck with beginning to operate it.
I can get it to print and that's it!! don't even bother trying to scan on the piece of crap!! anyone got any advice on what i'm doing wrong? i can't even get the picture to load.

I've been battling with my sister's x63 (had she asked, I'd have warned her about the cheaposity of lexmark) I figured my tech saavy could untangle the mess, but alas the sledgehammer option is the official remedy of professional techs. It's really the only way out. A class action suit will band-aid your feelings of betrayal, but won't get anything printed. The most inexpensive epson beats any lexmark, hands down. Add a little epson scanner, use winfax and you'll wind up with more efficiency (and less frustration) than the stoopid x63, by far. (individual ink tanks makes an awful lot of sense, dontcha think?)

Lexmark have now emailed me and asked me to fax the original proof of purchase. I had already emailed this after they said my X63 was out of warranty even though it was purchased 24 Jan 2004.
There is a green label on my X63 which says it is refurbished by Lexmark and has warranty.
I am not going to give up on this after all I am a Brit and not going to take it!

GEEEEZE! well same probs as listed. purchased at comp fair from ikon tech. inc. they refered me to the mfg. Machine just will not function, all kinds of glitches etc.
I want a refund! Just e-mailed lexmark we'll see.
Going to the law suit site now to add my name.

Some of us have never had a digital camera hooked up to our computers (I know - stone age) at least during the time the X63 was installed. Don't think that's the problem at all. It's just a piece of crap...

Worst piece of computer equipment I have bought (since 1980).

Threw it in the trash--usually I give old stuff to some deserving kid.

What a piece of irritating cruddy plastic--want to put it the yard and shoot it with BBs, then pur lighter fluid on it and torch it.

Well here was a letter written after numerous ones to lexmark.. I am just sick of having to uninstall and reinstall this thing at least 2 or 3 times a month.. NO SATISFACTORY ANSWER EVER FROM SUPPORT AT LEXMARK

Ok I have written and written to you regarding my x63 and have been online help with no results. I purchased this machine approximately 1 year ago. Since then I have had to replace my pcu and installed in on my new machine and now I am having the same problems on this machine as I had on the last machine.

"Printer Busy try again later" This is getting to be a real pain in the ass and am about to join the class action suit that has been filed.

Your tech support has been of no help.. there is no way I should have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling this printers software in order to use this printer.

I have been overly patient with your company. I bought this printer because in business I have always trusted lexmark but for a year now it seems my trust may have been misplace.

I have sent 3 emails to you with absolutely no responses back.. is that customer service i think not.

I had a warranty on this machine and instead of getting support i got nothing but a run around and no backing of your equipment.

I have read all the posts of others who have had the same issue.

So my question now is do you back your equipment or just let those of us who put our trust and faith in you and your company down... or will you finally stand behind your equipment and either finally send me a new machine that works properly.. or do I join the class action suit.. ???

Try going to this link and see all the chat regarding the same freaking issue that i too have been dealing with for a year... I asked for support also on why I was not able to receive faxes.. and got no help there either for this machine.. and my set up with the home phone.

I HAD SOME PROBLEMS WITH MY COMPUTER AND THE LEXMARK x63 WOULD NOT WORK. I DELETED IT AND RELOADED IT AND IT WORKED FOR A WHILE. I THEN TRIED TO DELETE IT AND RELOAD AGAIN TO SEE IF IT WOULD START WORKING AGAIN AND NO THE COMPUTER TELLS ME IT CAN'T FIND THE MODULE. HELP !!!

Wow, I thought I was the only one with a problem
relevant to the X63! I can fax out but nothing
more. It says replace the black ink even after
doing such, and so on. Oh well, might as well
go to a competitor for now on. No wonder they
were banging these things out prior to Christmas
for $49.00 as a 'close out' at the stores. I did not buy mine for that almost a year ago now. I have an Epson 600 and 1270 that work like a breeze for good quality printing. Even have an

I don't belive it Lexmark is sending me another printer got there email today I have emailed every email address I can find on there web site over and over again, think they just got tired of me I wrote one very nasty letter and kept sending the same one over and over adding the new date everytime (EXAMPLE) if I sent it on the 7th of march and then again on the 8th I would say another day gone buy still no responce from your company, do you not read your emails or can't you read or understand english this lexmarkx63 is junk I want it replaced!!! must have worked but as I said lets see what they send me. If you have read my previous comments on this web site you will see I busted my lexmarkx63 to pieces with a hammer, I told lexmark this so they are not expecting me to return my lexmarkx63 told them I would if they pay shipping. So don't give up !! Thats what they want good luck to all of you

Well i have had this peice of junk for over a year and the best way to deal with the "busy try again later" is to save all work and turn off computer, pull the power supply and usb cable from the back of the lexmark and wait a minute. Put everything back in place and restart the system. It beats reinstalling the driver adn software everytime.

I finally got them to send me a new printer and guess what I still have the same problem. There tech support must be out of the country because they called me on Thanksgiving day! They do not have a clue what is causing the problem but they know they have it

I have had this X63 for just over 2 years. I knew when I bought it was a cheap printer, and I couldn't expect much reliability. I am using XP Pro SP1. The machine works fine for sending and receiving faxes. The color printing has bombed out, even with brand new cartridges it no longer prints. Black printing still works, and I got a good deal on a 3-pack of black cartridges from http://www.pagecomputers.com I started getting the error "Printer not ready Device is busy try again later". Then I remembered I had removed Lexmark's startup programs from the "Startup" folder in the start menu. I restored those links, in particular, to "C:\Program Files\LexmarkX63\ACMonitor_X63.exe", and the printer worked for at least one print job. I also had synchronized the printer's clock with my computer's clock, as someone pointed out. (I also synchronize my system clock with official time using the freebie http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/ats.htm Analogx Atomic Timesync. )

Still, I would sometimes get the device busy error, and the solution would be to unplug the USB and power cable from the printer. Then, I wait a few seconds and plug them back in. This usually restores operation. Also, if I try to print multiple things at once, the printing hangs on the fourth byte of the print job. The only solution again is to cycle the power of the printer. Sometimes I will even have to reboot.

To keep it from jamming or multi-feeding, do not push the paper down into the printer all the way. The paper should be straight, and it should be resting on the flat bottom of the feeder column. Also, there is a small tab to hold the paper in place on the left side of the feeder tray. It is very important that this tab is flush against the paper, and it needs to exert a firm, but not tight, pressure against the stack of paper. Multi-feeding happens when the tab is not tight enough. Finally, DO NOT fill the paper feeder tray to capacity, or you will get jams. The best amount is about half of capacity of the tray.

Well, I hope these tips help you enjoy the printer for a little longer before it konks out or you can't tolerate it any longer. Otherwise, my parents just got a Sharp AL-1560CS multi-function laser printer/copier, which is absolutely fantastic and hasn't jammed yet.

Oh my goodness! I called Lexmark this morning AGAIN, and ask them AGAIN to help me fix the problem with THEIR printer. I have the Lexmark 63 all in one. The lady I spoke with said, (after telling her again what many problems I've had) she said, "Peggy, I am going to help you fix your problem. First, I want you to hold down on the clear button while taking your other hand and unplug the power cord,cont. to depress the clear button for 15 sec." OK, I did that. NOTHING HAPPENED. She said, " Since that didnt work now I want you to remove both ink cardridges, than repeat the first step only depress the clear button for 1 minute before plugging the power cord back in." NOTHING HAPPENED, still saying, Clear system and redo. I told her it didnt work. She said, "Now I want you to repeat the 1st and 2rd step all over but this time I want you to unplug the USB port before depressing clear for 2 minutes." I told this lady I was only using one hand since I had had surgery on my left shoulder and could not use my left hand. I ask her to send me all these instructions in my e mail. She said, "I cant do that, it is against our rules." I told this woman that I was a purchaser not a master on fixing printers. She said it was an easy problem to fix so I had to do it because they would not pay for me to take it to the shop. I said, "if it is such an easy problem to fix why is everyone complaining about the same problems and Lexmark is doing nothing about them and now there 's a class action suit againist Lexmark." Anyway, I still have the pain and they have the money for this NO GOOD HUNK OF JUNK>

It seems to be a driver problem. Try this add a new printer in windows and use the Lexmark Z52 drivers they work for me with the Lexmark X63.

I too suffer the wrath of Lexmark.

For ink level problem, after taking out/putting in the same old/or new cart., follow the instructions on the little LED window on the X63. You have to push menu/options buttons before it will acknowledge a changed cart.

I started having difficulty with the error msg, busy crap, so I went to Lexmark, downloaded the driver for XP. It worked for awhile, until today when I upgraded my Presario 5000T AMD Duron 700 MHz chip with an AMD Athlon 1.3 GHz chip (verf'd by AMD/Compaq to work). I have tried to reinstall the downloaded driver twice now, but still not taking it, still getting busy msg.

Just added my name to the website form for class action suit.

If their is a class action against lexmark, I want in. They made a piece of junk and then didnt do anything about it! We should go to the news and have them expose Lexmark for what they are, a bunch of lieing fools laughing their asses off all the way to the bank with our money. I was having the "printer busy" headache with the Lexmark X63 myself just recently.
The problem popped up occasionally over the last month or two, then for the last few weeks, I got it constantly.
I took the advice of one of the previous messages and went to: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;312052
I did ALL the steps contained in the instructions, and am happy to say that the problem has cleared up completely for the last three days. (Knock on wood!)
I don't know what caused it, but getting rid of ALL the references in the registry to any printer previously installed, then reinstalling the X63 with the driver that pertains to your operating system seems to do the trick.
Just make sure you read and follow the instructions CAREFULLY.
You can get the Lexmark drivers at:support.lexmark.com&
I used the Uninstall Clean utility that is also found there before I started to clean out the registry. Dunno if it had anything to do with the cure, but I thought I'd mention it...

Well, my X63 worked just fine. I already had a camera hooked up to my computer, as well as another all-in-one (HP 1200psc). The HP has only given my one problem (when I used a refill kit instead of buying a new cartridge). When I started to run low on ink, the X63 started giving me problems. I'm not sure if that's a coincidence or not. I was concerned when I installed the printer that WinXP stated that it might not work properly, but Lexmark's instructions said to ignore that. I believe that's the problem. My first error message was "problem communicating with the printer", now (in addition to that) it says that there are NO cartridges in. Unless there is a remarkable turnaround at Lexmark, I'll stick with HP and Epson. They seem to have gotten it right.

Thank you to those who suggested that the Z52 driver will make the X63 work in Windows XP -- I used their suggestion and it in fact works!!

When using the XP wizard to add a device, I had to over-ride a couple of things (i.e. that it pointed out that the driver does not match the hardware that I plugged in) and I used the Z52 driver that XP has stored (I should have known that something was wrong with the X63 driver since it seems to be the only one missing from their very long list!).

I can finally print and it is working well.

I am very glad that I found this site -- and thanks to those who shared the info about the Z52 driver --- you saved me from tossing this x63 in the garbage!!!!

After talking to a customer rep at lexmark today, she actually helped me out for now with the following information reagrding the same problem with los of communication to my X63. hopefully this will help a lot of you out before you destroy your printer. Like most of you, I have been fighting this issue with lexmark for over a year now. This seems to have fixed my problem so far. If it begins again, I will post what has happened. GOOD LUCK!!!

Dear Valued Lexmark Customer:

We would like to share the following information with you.

Reset the power to the printer.
Verify that the printer passes the hardware test.
If there is still no communication, restart the computer and do the following: Verify that the print queue is not paused or offline. Check to see if the Lexmark X63 shows up correctly in the Device Manager.
If it does, but there is a ? or ! on its icon, remove and refresh the device. Uninstall and then reinstall the driver.
If the problem persists, you can check for the presence of AcBtnMgr_X63.exe, ACMonitor_X63.exe and Lxamsp32.exe in the Windows Task Manager. For the X63 to work correctly, these executables should all be present. (Note: This is essentially the same as doing a reboot, but a reboot does not delete the registry entry for the Lxamsp32.exe.) Do the following:
In the systray (lower right corner), right click on the Lexmark Scan & Copy Control Program and select Exit. This shuts down the port contention code.
Open a DOS window (go to C:\Windows\System32).
To stop the process, type:

Lxamsp32.exe -u

To remove the registry entry, type:

Lxamsp32.exe -d

To restart the process and add the registry entry, type:

Lxamsp32.exe -i

Wait a few seconds (up to 15) for the process to load and start.

Then go to Start, Programs, Startup.
Double-click AcBtnMgr_X63.exe and ACMonitor_X63.exe. (It does not matter what order you start them in.) You should now have normal printing functions.

Please use the following steps to download the Windows XP Lexmark X63 Driver to your desktop.

1. Click on Download Now.
2. On the File Download screen, choose Save
3. The next screen will be titled Save As. Choose to Save in Desktop and click OK
4. You should see files being transferred.

****Note**** If your browser uses a different file downloading format than specified above, you will need to resort to your browsers help files for downloading instructions. The object of steps 1 - 4 is to download the driver to your desktop. This way it is easily accessible.

5. Once the files have completed downloading, double click on the icon with your file name.
6. On the Win Zip Self-Extractor screen click OK
7. To unzip the downloaded file choose Unzip
8. A screen will then display the number of files unzipped successfully, click OK

Try this!!!!!!!!!!!

Have any of you tried:
Power down pc, then
Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer.
Hold down the Stop/Clear button.
While keeping the button pressed down, reconnect the power cable. The message MEMORY CLEARING - PLEASE WAIT will appear on the LCD display.
A READY message should then appear.

Just like you I have a piece of crap. I have the dreaded X63 and Lexmark sent me 2 others and now I get Printer is Busy also the message saying Add correct cartridge. I have emailed and asked them not to email me with the company line on how sorry they are because the printer did not work. Just tell me how can I get my printer fixed. Money is hard to come by these days unless you are lexmark and you stiff those who purchase your products :) LOL. How many times have they told you to uninstall and reinstall. Well I have read a lot of posts from all of us who got screwed with this printer. I have tried many of the solutions, but guess what I still can't print. I am sure that Mr. Lexmark knows by now he has a worthless product.
Please does anyone know the correct answer. Or is the correct answer to buy a HP, Canon , Brother , Epson printer.

I hava the same problem. The x63 screen shows "add new cart". And the PC screen shows "it is busy and try later".
I am mad of X63's poor. I will waste money on a Lexmark product again.

Please Help!! My X125 will not scan into memory when I fax something. I'm sure my memory is full, but how do I clear it? The same as the ones posted on X63's? Also, when I fax something, I have to hit speaker then put in the # then start. Use to I just hit fax, put in # and start. Now when I do that it says 'resource busy try again later'. Is that a separate problem or the memory thing again?

WELL, WELL, WELL, LEXMARK HAS DONE NOTHING TO HELP ME WITH THIS PIECE OF JUNK CALLED LEXMARK 63, HOWEVER, TODAY I CALLED SAMS CLUB WHERE I BOUGHT THE ALL IN ONE PRINTER AND GUESS WHAT? Hope this helps anyone out there


To do this:

1) Click on Start>Control Panel>Printers and Other Hardware>Printers and
Faxes.
2) Then, right mouse click on the Lexmark icon, and left click properties.
3) Either on the advanced tab, or the general tab for some models, there is
a Print Processor button, left click it.
4) This is the spool format setting. It should be set to the default to
LEMF. Change it to NT EMF 1.003.
5) Click OK and exit back out to your desktop.
6) Try printing again.

If this does not help the situation, describe any differences it does make.

If the printer is showing 'low ink level', 'change cartridge' or 'add
cartridge' error message on the printer LCD screen, please follow the
instructions below:

1) Snap the cartridge in and out 3 times.

2) From the operator panel, press Options to select which cartridges were
changed.

3) Press Start.

4) From the operator panel, press Options to select the cartridge type you
installed.

5) Press Start.

Please follow the instructions given below:

1. First, you will need to remove the USB cable from the current port on
the computer and attach it to another USB port on the computer (do not
attach it t a hub).

2. At this point the computer should detect a new device (the printer).
Accept any license agreements and continue with the installation on your
screen.

3. Once the installation is complete, make sure all windows are closed and
click on Start, Settings, and Printers. You will have two Lexmark printers
in your Printer's window. One should have a checkmark over it and read
"Copy2". The other is the first installation of the printer. It should not
have a checkmark. Right click on the printer icons without the checkmark
and choose "Delete" in the drop down box.

4. Restart the computer and try to print. If you still generate the error,
you will need to run a complete reinstallation of the software.

Please follow these instructions for a complete reinstallation:

If you are a Windows XP user, look on your installation CD to see if your
P/N# is 13H0350. If you have this part # then you will not need to download
the driver from our website at this time unless you are having other
difficulties with the installation. If you have a Dell computer with USB
ports on the front of your computer, then you will need to use one of these
ports and not the either on the back of the computer.

First, remove the printer cable from the computer. Now remove the printer
cable from the printer and remove the power from the printer. Next, click
on START >> PROGRAMS >> LEXMARK X63 >> REMOVE LEXMARK X63. Close all
windows and restart the computer.

After you have restarted then you will need to LOG in as the Administrator,
and reinstall the printer driver. When it gets to the point "connect USB
cable" Do not click on ok let the computer detect the USB cable for you. If
the computer does not detect the cable then plug the USB cable into another
printer port on the computer until it will detect. If the computer does not
see the printer then you will need to try a different USB cable an "A to B"
USB cable 1.0. The cable should not be any longer then 6'.

Same problem here. Lexmark has replaced the unit twice but problems still persist. Presently, "Printer Busy." The test page works somehow. Of course, the warrent period is up now.

I kept blaiming my brother for breaking the Lexmark x63 until I found this site. I have all the same problems--"Device is busy." B.S.!! I have tried the recommended fix of clearing the printer memory. It doesn't work.

I am of the opinion that the problem is with the software on the computer since I get the "Device is busy" message whether the USB cable is plugged or unplugged.

Regarding the CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT: it is being handled by the law firm of Sheller, Ludwig and Badey, but it is a class action suit about paper jams, not the "Device is busy" B.S.

if it can function there. If not, then the printer most likely needs
service. If the new cable functions correctly on the alternate PC, then
there might be a problem with your computer's USB port or controller. You
might wish to contact your PC manufacturer (or your USB card manufacturer,
if you are using such a device) for more information and assistance on
checking the port and getting updates to the USB Controller chip.

Lexmark apologized (the company line) and told me if my printer is out of warranty I could pay $225 to have it fixed. They must be freakin crazy. I will buy a Canon, Brother, or HP or some other type of printer and I will never buy a Lexmark. Even if they gave me another for free. I'd send it back.

On the installation disk it says that the software does not conform to MS software and you are instructed to go ahead anyway.

I have it on good authority that that is an indication that Lexmark's lawyers missed an important clause in the MS developers agreement. That they could not pass the mingled program on to the end user.

I have also discussed this with others and have been told this problem was corrected and can be permanently corrected by going to the Lexmark website and downloading thier most current drivers for this product.

You will notice that the ongoing problem can be averted IF you do not update your MS software when your printer is online or you give your lexmark a different name. As an added protection disconnect the cable to your printer. I now use my lap top to print whatever and have no problems with my lexmark as long as I do not go online or do not update my MS software.

I'm having the same issues I see from many other of Lexmark customers. What a shame, seems like the Lexmark page would address these issues with a download . . .

Printer worked OK, wouldn't buy it again. From the beginning I've had scanning issues and the paper feed is whack, lot's of creasing. Recently though, just won't print and I've addressed every sharp shooting issue possible.

this is hella funny!!! i can not believe all the illness going on here, shame on laxmark :/

anyhow, here are da fix0rz... whomever it was that said use the Z52 driver was right on teh money$, worked like a champ, just make sure to switch teh port from lpt1 to usb, duh!!!

CHANGE CARTRIDGE or CARTRIDGE EMPTY message eradicated by... yanking out the said cartridge, in my case it was teh black(it's said that since i refilled it, never really bothered to fix it untill i relized that refill kits suX0r and i finally bought a real replacement cart.) anyhow... back tto what i was saying... yank out the cart. yank the power and usb cables, wait a sec... plug back in the power and usb, BUT LEAVE the cart out, then it will prompt you to load new cart yada yada, follow the prompts and you're golden, no mo CHANGE CARTRIDGE msg's!!!

having said all that, i think i will follow suit and beat the p.o.s. to bits with a hammer and mail it to laxmark, once these carts run out... then go get a "REAL" MFP, cuz even tho there are work-arounds as stated above, its just not right to have to do all that crizzap on a 49$ p.o.s. printer.

SO IN SUMMATION:

INSTALL Z52 DRIVER (remember port = usb)

REMOVE CART, UNPLUG CABLES, PLUG IN CABLES, THEN INSERT CART, FOLLOW PROMPTS

Funny thing is I had two color carts, and when a color is put in the black spot there is no cartridge error message. There is also no printing but, I find that kinda strange.

I have a workaround for the "Add Right Cart" problem. Press on the "Paper Feed" button once, it will partially take in a sheet of paper. Now, hold that paper firmly from the top so that it cannot be pulled-in any further by the printer, then press on "Paper Feed" again WITHOUT letting go of the sheet. The printer will try to pull it in, but will engage its paper jam safety mechanism & run the paper feed freely for a few seconds. The printer will then display a "Paper Jam" error on the LCD. Gently, but firmly remove the paper from the top, then push the "Start" button. The printer will still say "Add Right Cart & Memory to Print", however it will print the fax in memory. This procedure has to be repeated for each stored fax.

right click my computer go to hareware, device manager, go to universal serial bus controllers right click usb root hub go to properties, then power management uncheck, allow this computer to turn off this device to save power.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, IF YOU HAVE YOUR LEXMARK X63 AND IT'S CONNECTED THROUGH YOUR USB PORT, YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOUR PRINTER HAS ACCESS TO YOUR USB PORT. MAKE SURE IT'S NOT SAYING IT'S CONNECTED TO COM1 OR ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE USB CONNECTION.

I just purchased a new cartridge from someone on Ebay. The pictures are not printing as shown. They have a yellowish tint to them. I had this problem before with a blue tint, but I don't remember how I fixed it.

I too have opened a new business and can't remember how we got the Business Name to show at the top of pages when sending/receiving faxes etc... Did you ever get any help on how to add Name to Lexmark x63?

We had this printer for over a year now and we've probably use it about three or four time and now its saying clear system error and we can't clear anything on it. I was thinking about reinstalling the whole thing but Im unable to locate the Disk. Can anyone help me find a solution. IT's also saying that the printer is unavailable and at time it says that the printer is busy.

I purchased my LexMark X63 printer in 2002. Shortly after I started to use the printer, it was not working. LexMark quickly replaced it with a new X63 printer when they could not fix it over the phone. The second one worked for a little while and not working again. Lexmark replaced it again with a third X63 although I strongly requested either my money back or another model that worked. The third one worked all right except for the printing. During the last 4 years, I used the printer to print a total of about 100 pages of black and white. Most of the times when I needed to print something, the printer was either “ busy” or not “available”. I called LexMark technical support for help numerous times and uninstalled /installed my printer countless times to make it print. Three days ago, I have to uninstall/install the printer again. The installation went smoothly until I connected the USB cable as prompted .While my computer told me "USB devise not recognized",the screen showed that
“LexMark Printer Driver Installation
Searching for your printer”
And asked me to make sure that
“The printer cable is not damaged
The printer cable is securely attached to both the printer and the personal computer
The power cable is plugged in “

I checked all the above items and they were fine .(The cable was new and was pre-tested on another printer .)However, the installation stopped there and the printer was never installed.
I tried the installation twice, first using the CD that came with the printer and then using the printer driver for Microsoft Window XP downloaded from the LexMark web-site .

Anybody know how I can reinstall my printer again? Thank you.

I have a lexmark x63. It never worked right from the day I bought it. It would print and receive faxes, but it wouldn't scan, copy or send faxes(blank pages were received). I bought a new all-in-one printer(HP) and use the x63 to receive faxes only. It's a very expensive receive only fax machine. A real piece of crap and the last lexmark product I will ever buy.

Just fixed problem on my x63...it started printer busy when it needed cartridge changed. changed cartridge still got printer busy so uninstalled/installed 3 times unsuccessfully.

downloaded their cleaner and was running it when the phone rang...on the printer.

unplugged phone line from printer, finished clean utility.

reinstalled, works fine.

hope it helps.

Everyone that is having trouble with their X63, please please please install the Lexmark Z52 Color Jetprinter drivers. I was getting the same Printer Is Busy error. I installed the Z52 drivers and it worked instantly. I must say that customers should not have to go through this much trouble to get a printer to work though.

I am getting the same problem as many have listed on this website, I am not able to print. I keep getting printer busy error message. Please someone tell me haw to correct this problem.

Check the other post i've made on the X63's. There is no solution. Its a problem with the machine, and there is no resolution for it. It was caused by lexmark using second rate product in a first generation fax machine.

BTW - to the person who was sending Blank Faxes - flip the paper over. There was never any issue at all with the scanning unit in the X63, it was one of the best, and is still in use today in some of their new machines. Out of all the cases logged at lexmark, less than 2% had to do with a X63 scanner, and of those, 99% were either caused by dirt, the feeder on the scanner, or end user error.

having problems with printer, will print fine for few days, then it says printer is busy, try later. cannot find the problem to fix it. have to uninstall and reinstall everytime it does this. please help

I have a Lexmark X125. For some reason I am not able to scan. I have uninstalled and installed until I am blue in the face. Whenever I try to scan it says that the PC is not available. Yet I don't have any problems printing. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

I have had my Lexmark X63 All in one for four years, and at least once a year I have to call and get help fixing the problem that have. This time I called to get some help, and was told I have to pay $15.00. That's Bull! I was told to go to lexmark.com and would be able to fix the problem on line, I have been at this now for three days, no help yet!!!!

Where do I go to get help?
