 | Epson C82 printing problem by Steve (10/20/03 12:32 PM) reply | + / - | I have an Epson C82 connected via USB to an XP machine. I also have an HP Laserjet 1200 connected via parallel port.
I have the latest version of the C82 driver, yet when I print the first time it is ok. A second time hangs whatever application I'm printing from and makes the printer useless unless I re-boot the PC.
Also, when I print the first document on the Epson, the HP fires up and prints a few jibberish characters on the page.
When I shut down, I get a message that EBAPI is not responding, etc.
Any ideas??

 | Re: Epson C82 printing problem by Steve (10/24/03 8:20 AM) reply | + / - | Got a message back from Epson that the monitoring software for Epson & HP are incompatible (interfering) in Windows XP. They advised removing the status monitor for one. I'll re-post after testing.

I can print 1 photo on my printer, but the second one hangs the software...

 | Re: Epson C82 printing problem by Travis (1/2/04 12:31 PM) reply | + / - | I have the same issue with an Epson Stylus 820 and a HP 3300. I can print one photo on the Epson, then the HP spits out a tiny smiley face with an arrow next to it. After that, I can no longer print to the Epson; all my photo applications would hang (MS Picture It!, Roxio Photo Suite, Arcsoft Photo Impression). I'd have to reboot, at which point the system would hang when trying to shutdown EBAPI and STM3S BackMon. I tried disabling the HP Director (monitoring) software. This fixes the problem with printing to the Epson, but then once I print the the Epson, the HP can't print. I've also removed both software monitors from XP startup. That doesn't fix it either. I switched the HP from USB to parallel cable, but that had no effect, even after a reinstall of the HP printer drivers. The Experts-Exchange website mentions the same problem, but the information is from March 2003. They post that HP suggested to install a powered USB hub between the PC and the HP. But, there was never a response if that actually worked. I'll try disabling the Epson monitor and re-enabling the HP monitor to see if that makes any difference. If anyone has had any success, please post a reply. Thanks.

 | Re: Epson C82 printing problem by Anonymous (2/27/05 6:56 AM) reply | + / - | I had a similar problem with a conflict between an Epson 860 and an HP 6110. After much trial and error (after following suggestions from HP) I removed all programs and drivers, deleted all folders, removed all registry entries for the offending hardware and software and rebooted the pc. I then installed the HP followed by the Epson (contrary to advice from HP)using the latest software and drivers from the respective web sites. All seems to be well for now.

Good site!

 | Re: Epson C82 printing problem by Anonymous (4/29/05 7:45 AM) reply | + / - | I do not have any HP,only an EPSON 680 attached to the parallel port:the EPSON is 4 years old,the problem instead is just born after an attempt to print at higher speed. So I think HP as no influence. So what?

 | Re: Epson C82 printing problem by newuser (5/21/05 11:17 AM) reply | + / - | My problem was a conflict between Zstatus.exe (Hp specific monitor for Ep-22 engine) and Epson status agent.
I've renamed zstatus.exe in zstatus.old, then I've renamed S2agent.exe (Epson port monitor) in s2agent.old, both printers now work correctly. Last week I've also removed Epsibr20.exe, Epson ink level monitor, which was occasionally hanging, I've lost ink levels but the system is much more reliable.
I'm still using Windows 98, under 2000/xp file names (and behaviour) may be different.

 | Re: Epson C82 printing problem by dick77 (5/25/05 9:32 AM) reply | + / - | I'm convinced that Epson's status monitor is the culprit. After three days of intense troubleshooting, the bottom line was to uninstall (via control panel's remove programs) both of Epson's status monitor programs, leaving the print control program intact. No more problems. And yes, there's a (tiny) icon on the printer's control window showing the status of the ink cartridges - I just have to stand up to look at it, rather than seeing it on my monitor. And note that Epson's tech support was not much help - their idea is to remove every peripheral on my PC except the Epson printer.

 | Re: Epson C82 printing problem by cadfli (6/13/05 10:24 AM) reply | + / - | I am having the same problem with my Epson C82. The cyan is not printing. Epson Utility show it is full since i put in a new cartrige. An Epson specialist at Best Buy says most likely the micro chip has died. Probably need a new printer, I already tried cleaning heads over and over again.
Good Luck

 | Re: Epson C82 and Photo1290printing problem by Info (7/7/05 4:11 PM) reply | + / - | We run a small office network and have an Epson C82 I cant uninstall. I now have an Epson Photo 1290 installed to the local machine on LPT1 and a network HP Laserjet 1320.
The local machine now has a problem shutting down because of STM3S Back Mon and another software conflict with proprierty software that requires a dongle on the parallel port.
My IT support suggests an IO conflict on the parelell port on multiple print jobs on Microsoft XP polling LPT1 before sending the print job to the network.

 | Re: Epson C82 printing problem by okcib (7/29/05 10:48 AM) reply | + / - | Following many searches for printer reviews and accepting their findings regarding the superiority of Epson Printers I have now owned three, the present one being the C82. Why are they recommended when they fail so frequently? Jets blocked! Black Ink running out of the seams as blotting fabric area has become saturated with ink - after just over a year of home use! I would welcome advice as to a reliable printer. All my Epson printers have hung thanks to STM3S and EBAPI and what is worse refuses to accept pause or delete documents with the result that hung pages print next time the computer is switched on - a trifle annoying if it is a 22 page booklet. Please can anyone advise of a solution to this problem - it is the only printer connected to my computer.

 | Re: Epson C82 printing problem by Anonymous (3/2/07 11:02 AM) reply | + / - | Bad or under-rated USB cable for printer. Try to replace one. You can also disable the port monitor sagent2.exe by renaming it to sagent2.old.

 | Re: Epson C82 printing problem by Anonymous (11/24/07 1:45 PM) reply | + / - | I know this is a 4-year old thread, but I'm writing this for anyone who may be Googling this problem. I've been having this problem with an Epson Stylus Photo 1280 with an HP LaserJet 1320. Every time I tried to print to the 1280, a print would also come out of the LaserJet with a smile face and an arrow. Then I wasn't able to print additional prints to the 1280. Photoshop would freeze.
My solution was simply to turn off the HP Laserjet before printing to the Epson printer. This is by far the easiest solution and doesn't involve uninstalling anything or screwing with the registry.
