Epson C80 service life reset?

Epson C80 service life reset? by Bob Cooley (10/3/03 9:05 PM) reply + / -
The monitor on my high mileage Epson C80 has just
said
"Service Required!
Parts inside printer are near the end of their
service life. Contact dealer for replacement!"

I took it apart and found that the sump in the
bottom is indeed fairly full and needs to be
cleaned out. But I don't see any sensor there
so I suspect the message is produced by counting
ink carts used.

How do I reset the counter? I can see how to
clean out the sump.

Bob: As an "Epson Authorized Service Dealer", there's only so much information and help that I can legally give...JUST IN CASE NO ONE HAPPENS TO REPLY BACK TO YOU: You may want to try doing a general search on the "fixyourownprinter.com" Printer Repair Site, under WASTE INK PADS or WASTE INK COUNTER RESET PROCEDURE. You should be able to find quite a few references listed in the last six months and most included web-site links, for possible help on the reset procedure...I know this information is not really much help, but at least you will know where you may be able to get that RESET PROCEDURE that you need...Good Luck! Bob,

Here's how I reset the Waste Ink Pad Counter on my C80. Not sure, but I believe it's the one that responsible for your Service Required message.

1.) I opened the machine and replaced all the pads at the bottom with carpet underpadding. I carefully cut them to fit. This is a messy job. And I carefully cleaned all the ink splashes with Q-tips dampened with distilled water. 2.) I reset the "Protection Counter" using a printer utility called "SSC Service Utility for Epson Stylus Printers". I obtained this utility at inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html. Warning: Do not reset the counter without replacing those waste ink pads. The results could be disasterous. Hope this helps.
