 | Epson 1520 printer by Jim Dickerson (7/22/03 7:25 AM) reply | + / - | Sorry, this is a repost, but I failed to fill in the subject line on the last one....:(
I am working on an Epson Stylus 1520 color inkjet. When I turn the printer on, the cover open and reset lights are both blinking. The cover is closed and the cover sensor switch appears to be good. Any ideas what the problem is?

There's of course no way for me to actually know whats wrong with your printer. It's possible that you may even have an actual HARDWARE PROBLEM [parts problem], but unfortunatly I really don't know. I looked in the SERVICE MANUAL, under ERROR CODES & SOLUTIONS, but there's no listing for a "cover open" and "reset" lights/LED's both blinking. In fact there's only a listing for a solid cover open light/LED and no listing for a cover open blinking at all. Even stranger is the fact that there is no actual listing for a reset error light/LED at all [either blinking or solid]. Seems kind of strange, but I have no answer for you. I hope someone else has seen this light pattern before and can help you further...QUESTIOn: Have you tried running your printer as a STAND ALONE PRINTER, for testing purposes? Just unhook your printer cable from your printer and reset your printer by turning it off for 10 or 15 seconds, to clear any left over DATA from when the printer was connected to your Computer System. After you turn your printer back on, if the lights are not blinking, just try running the "Internal Epson Self-Test Pages". If the test pages print normally and the lights are not blinking, then you can assume the problem is being caused by your computer system. If the lights continue to blink when you turn your printer back on, then at least you know the problem is in your printer...Good Luck! Denny Conway

One thing that i observed is that during inicialization cycle the black ink low light stills on until the end of the cycle. I think this is a serious mainboard problem. All sensors and motors seems to be working perfecty! Am I wrong?

There's of course no way for me to actually know whats wrong with your printer. It's possible that you may even have an actual HARDWARE PROBLEM [parts problem]...TECH NOTE: GENERAL INFORMATION REGUARDING WHEN ALL LEDS/LIGHTS ARE BLINKING/FLASHING: If all the LED's/LIGHT's are BLINKING/FLASHING on an Epson Printer, that indicates "Maintenance Request Error". The "Maintenance Request Error" is actually a "Waste Ink Pad Overflow Error"... Normally your remedy is to replace the "Waste Ink Pad/Pads" with a new one/ones and then reset the "Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter". The waste ink pads are normally housed in a black plastic box. They are located in the bottom of the printer, towards the front, just under where the paper starts to exit. You would have to remove the "Top Cover Assembly" to be able to get to the screw or screws that hold that assembly in place. If you cannot figure out how to remove the waste ink pad holder assembly [plastic box], you may need to actually get a SERVICE MANUAL, to refer to that removal procedure. I'm sorry, but I'm limited by Epson and cannot supply any further disassembly instructions...You may want to try doing a general search on the "fixyourownprinter.com" printer repair site, under WASTE INK PADS or WASTE INK COUNTER RESET PROCEDURE. You should be able to find quite a few references listed in the last six months and most included web-site links, for possible help on the reset procedure...I know this information is not much help, but at least you will know what your possible problem is...Good Luck! Denny Conway...P.S. I did check in the Service Manual and if all six lights are flashing, then it does indicate a "Maintenance Request Error" on your "1520".

 | Re: Epson 1520 printer by bellealliance (9/1/06 4:02 PM) reply | + / - | Hello,
THe "operate" light in my printer keeps flashing and though the printer WILL print, what I think is a Hex Dump ( alphabet letters and numbers) it will NOT print my file. A window comes up saying that it is not connected to the printer. I have turned the printer off/on many times, both holding down the load/eject/cleaning color and load/eject/cleaning bw buttons and the Operate light just keeps blinking. Any suggestions on how to remedy this problem? Thanks in advance!

 | Re: Epson 1520 printer by mcprinter (9/2/06 2:43 AM) reply | + / - | You have to hold button(s) down when powering up to get into hex dump.
The output would be something like 61 62 63 64 65 66 67 abcdefg
Have you tried a new cable from your PC to printer?
