 | Epson Stylus C80 problem by Alejandro (7/1/03 12:32 PM) reply | + / - | Hi, I am having problems with my Epson Stylus C80. The black ink doesnt print, even though I bought I new one. But it was printing ok before, it just ran out of ink, and then I installed the new one and its not working. I have run several head cleans, and still doesnt work. When I make the nozzle check, the black ink doesnt show up... What can be wrong? Please if somebody can reply to me, I would appreciate it

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Melissa (7/1/03 2:21 PM) reply | + / - | I noticed you posted to my problem, so I thought I'd share this with you. I was looking at some archived posts and it seems that this is a recurring problem (getting blank pages after changing the ink.) Click on the link below.

My last resort is to call an Epson tech and have them send me a new printer, that is, if my warranty hasn't expired. Otherwise, HP may be the best bet.
Good Luck!

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Alejandro (7/1/03 8:07 PM) reply | + / - | Epson has disapointed me.. Not only the catridges are too expensive, but they get wasted even with only turning the printer on.. And when you run the cleanhead utility?? it's worst.. I used to like the printer, but now I regret buying it.. Maybe is time to go to laser printers!!

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Denny Conway (7/3/03 5:36 PM) reply | + / - | As an "Epson Authorized Service Dealer", there's only so much information and help that I can legally give. There's of course no way for me to actually know whats wrong with your printer. It's possible that you may even have an actual HARDWARE PROBLEM [parts problem], or possibly even a clogged printhead assembly. Most of the problems people have are caused by something they did, or did not do and are not always the printers fault...SOME EXAMPLES: Never cleaning and servicing your printer, or even not using the printers ON/OFF Switch to turn off your printer. If you turn your printer off by using the off/on switch on your "Surge Protector/Power Strip", rather than the off/on switch on the printer [so you could turn off multiple units at one time], that can either cause your "printhead assembly" to CLOG, or actually be DAMAGED. You ever keep running so many "Print Head Cleaning Cycles" and "Nozzle Tests", trying to get all of the print head nozzles to open/fire, that the flashing ink led came on, or worse yet the solid ink led? You now had to install a second, full cartridge. However, you probably still had a problem in your printer. If you remove the old cartridge and leave it out for over 30 minutes, that lets air into the "printhead nozzles", they can dry out and clog. If you remove a cartridge and then reinstall it, you lost the internal pressure inside the cartridge and allowed air to get into the nozzles. With no pressure inside the cartridge, the air can dry out the nozzles, causing a clog...Epsons need to be used often to keep the tiny printhead nozzles open. If you happen to be using refilled or non-Epson ink cartridges then its even worse on the printhead assemblies and you may not actually be able get the printhead assembly to work again. You might want to try using the "printhead cleaning kit", available through the home page on "fixyourownprinter.com" and see if you can get the printhead nozzles to open up again. Its around $10.00 and includes a syringe and the RED Epson Printhead Cleaning Solution, which is the best cleaning fluid to use, by far. This fluid is capable of disolving most clogs, especially if you use Epson inks. If it does not work, then its generally time to replace the printhead or the printer. Although the kit is not designed for the "C80" series printers or the newer Epson Ink Jet Style Printers, the red fluid and syringe can still be used the same way. The main difference is the instruction for the FELT PAD/CAP ASSEMBLY. The C80 series and newer printers, use a different stlye "cap assembly" that does not use a felt pad, so you have to ignore that portion of the instructions...REMEMBER: The "nozzles" inside the printhead assembly can be easily damaged by using to much force. Damage can even occur when you are using the correct cleaning method: the RED Epson Printhead Cleaning Solution and Syringe, found in the "printhead cleaning kit" sold off the printer repair site. If you try to force the fluids thru the nozzle, the nozzles can be seriously damaged. The correct method is to use the syringe to add the fluid into the nozzle and then leave the fluids set inside the nozzle for several hours, to try and dissolve the clog....Good Luck! Denny Conway

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Alejandro (7/3/03 5:42 PM) reply | + / - | Thank you so much, however I gave up and know that is time to trash my printer.. how sad.. I should have never bought an Epson.. maybe it was the desperate need.. well I welcome my new HP laser printer... What pisses me off most, is that it lasted only 18 months.. anyway, I am better off with a new one than wasting a lot of money buying inks from Epson.. for all of you who read this, my recomendation.. buy an Epson only if you want to buy a new printer every 2 years!!!

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 - rip off by B Kuchau (8/4/03 12:01 PM) reply | + / - | Hello,
I am so happy to have found your site. I feel so frustrated. I have an Epson C80 which is just 15 months old and it appears that I will have to buy a new printer. For years I used ink from Carrots (not refill kits but cartridges) for my old HP printer and had no problems and now I find out that I cannot use any other type of ink except Epson ink in my C80. I did use ink from Carrots and the printer almost immediately stopped printing color. To print one or two photos I would have to clean the heads several times which has eaten the ink up in a very short time. Now, I can't even print with the black ink since one of the color cartridges is out of ink. What a rip off! I will never buy another Epson product.
Is it worth the time and money to try the head cleaning kit recommended?
Thank you.

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Denny Conway (8/6/03 2:39 PM) reply | + / - | B. Kuchau: First you should know that most of the problems people have, are caused by something they did, or did not do and are not always the printers fault...SOME EXAMPLES: Refilling your own cartridges, or having them refilled, buying third party ink [generic ink, non Epson ink], removing the ink cartridge and then reinstalling it, never cleaning and servicing your printer, not using your printer for long periods of time, or not turning your printer OFF & ON by using the printers ON/OFF Switch [using a main switch on a Power Strip or Surge Protector, can damage the printhead assembly]. No matter what anyone says, all blacks and colors are not the same. Thats why all companies patient the formulas for there inks. Generally if you are using non Epson Ink Cartridges, you are using the wrong ink for your printer. Sooner or later you will have some type of problems, almost everyone does. Its even possible that some damage was already done by using the wrong ink and even the "printhead cleaning kit" may not work. If you clean your printhead assemblies with a "printhead cleaning kit", install new Epson Ink Cartridges and still the printheads don't seem to work or print, its probably time to purchase a new printer. You have normally done as much as you can do and the cost of new printheads are so expensive [approx $120.00 to $130.00 in the "C80"], your better off putting that money on a new printer. Unfortunatly not only do you have the cost of the "kit", but new cartridges as well, if you install the correct Epson cartridges. Even then the printheads may not work again. No way to actually know. You could of course first try the kit with the old cartridges to see if the printheads will open up and still work or not and if so then install the correct Epson cartridges...AS YOU DID USE NON-EPSON INK, I GUESS YOU DID SAVE MONEY BUYING THOSE CHEEPER CARTRIDGES, SO THAT IS SOME CONSOLATION...Good Luck! | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by John (8/11/03 4:57 PM) reply | + / - | I gave just experienced similar problems with our C80. We just bought a complete set of new Epson cartridges (expiration 04-2005). There have never been any other brand cartridges in this 15 month old printer. I have replaced the colors one at a time, cleaning the print heads each time which, of course, causes another color to stop working. All that is happening is that expensive ink is being drained out of the cartridges. No colors now show up on the nozzle check. All colors worked before the magenta ran out yesterday - the only thing I did is install new Epson color print cartridges. If anyone has some advise besides trashing this printer I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, John

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Alejandro (8/11/03 9:08 PM) reply | + / - | I had to buy a new printer at exactly the same time.. But I am glad that happened that way, I am not going to keep wasting my money on Epson products!! change to a HP laser, but if you definetly need the color.. dont look again at Epson

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by J Tang (9/16/03 7:29 PM) reply | + / - | I came across this site because the same problem has happened to me this morning. I have had the printer over a year, use it regularly, and use only genuine Epson cartridges. Things had been perfect for about 16 months...
And suddenly, when I replaced a yellow cartridge, I couldn't print yellow. Everything else worked. And because I had yellow light on, I'd printed 20 pages in the evening before I realised it this morning. I couldn't clean heads because my blue was low. So I changed my blue, too.
Now I can't print yellow OR blue, and the printer says my cartridges aren't genuine.
Isn't it funny that this happens after the warranty expires? Did someone say HP?

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Alejandro (9/16/03 8:37 PM) reply | + / - | it is so sad to see how more people gets affected by this. For all who read this, the solution? change to HP, or any other brand you trust. Frankly my HP laser is much better than the Epson.. well I can't print color, but if you use color, then it is worth buying a color laser, or if not laser, anything but Epson. Anyway, they are the ones that lost clients, lost selling catridges!

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Anne (11/2/03 8:45 PM) reply | + / - | It's wonderful to find this site and see that my problem is shared. But not very encouraging as to repairs working.
Did anyone try Denny Conway's suggestion, using the "printhead cleaning kit" that EPSON says is not for the C80? Has anyone found that this works? Or any other ideas?
|
 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Alejandro (11/2/03 8:48 PM) reply | + / - | Anne, I think the kit is not for the C80 stylus... I guess it won't work for some reason in that printer.. anyway, I am very happy with my HP laser, which I know won't give me any troubles.. If you need to print color desperately.. then, if you have the money, get a laser one.. if not, at least find some not very expensive HP, which from what I have seen.. are much better than Epson

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by J Tang (11/17/03 2:23 AM) reply | + / - | Let's face it - once the problem happens, there is no way to solve it. Denny Conway may be trying to help, but when so many people are doing things right and still getting a problem, let's admit there is a problem, and it's not the customer. I bought a new printer. It's still an Epson, not because I wanted an Epson, but because the shops in my area didn't sell Canons. You may be interested to know the C82 automatically cleans heads a lot more often than the C80. I don't like the idea that it's wasting ink like that, but maybe I can use it for a bit longer than the C80 because of it.
PS: There is a problem printing true black on glossy paper on the Epson C series (the ink won't dry, ever). I hope everyone knows this.

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Kurt (11/25/03 1:53 PM) reply | + / - | Seriously.....
1.Special needs as to where to turn off power?...negligent engineering.
2.Need to use the printer at least once every 30 days, clean heads every 30 days??.... Negligent engineering.
3. Printer requests cartridges to be changed before they come even close to running out of ink, AND the printer quits functioning? …. Extortion
Negligence + Extortion = Class Action....
A reputable company would have admitted their mistakes and issued a recall.
I have the Epson C80 and a LaserJet for simple Black and White printing.
I rarely need to print color.
I printed 15 complete sheets total from my Epson over a period of 18 months, and heads are clogged, and ink gone (reportedly by the "chip") from cleaning attempts.
This should be illegal.

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Anonymous (11/26/03 7:16 AM) reply | + / - | I have used an Epson Stylus C70+ for the last 18 Months with no problem. Now it Indicates that All Ink cartridges are empty. This still happens even after I replaced all the Ink cartridges with new ones. I suspect this has something to do with the Printer software as red Ink LED on printer only comes on after I try to print first page (It would not suprise me if this was coded on purpose).
EPSON INK COST CUTTING TIPS 1) I have used "JetTec" replacement Ink Cartridges since the origenal Epson ones went empty. The print quality in Black and Colour is just as good and the cost is about one third that of the epson Ink if bought OnLine.
2) You can buy an Epson Chip resetter OnLine that will enable you to reset the Ink Chip to indicate Full (Search on "Epson Chip resetter"). This will allow you to use the remaining ink in the cartridge, Carry on printing if one of the inks go empty and even refill the ink cartridge if you can.
3) When printer stops working, scrap it and never buy another Epson printer again. Try HP or Cannon.
Using the above Tips will:- * Reduce the cost per page of using an Epson Chipped Printer * Stick two fingers up at Epson for producing such rip-off printers.

 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by Peter W (4/3/05 9:12 AM) reply | + / - | To be fair to EPSON they do make good quality printers! The trick is how NOT to buy another EPSON cartridge ever again. My 580 gave me 2 good years of service on the original set of cartridges, I simply kept on refillling them, often without even taking them out of the printer (they were chipless)! I habe not bought any Epson cartridges for my 830 for the past year, though this printer is prone to clogging. I use cartriges which cost just over ? (less than US$2) each and they work! At this moment I'm trying to find out what is wrong with my friend's C70+. New cartridges (compatibles) are recognised by the printer and all ink levels are full upon replacement, but as soon as I start a print job, ALL ink levels go empty immediately before anything is printed! Has anyone encountered such a problem. I was going to suggest to my friend to buy a Canon, but if this problem can be fixed, C70 compatible cartridges are still quite cheap!
|
 | Re: Epson Stylus C80 problem by newuser (4/3/05 10:25 AM) reply | + / - | It's a strange problem because Epson printers are not expected to read/write ink levels from cartridge chips until precise conditions occur, such as head cleaning, printer initialization, power save function activation and so on.
You have many possibilities, the simplest is to buy a resetter to clear values stored on Epson original chips taken from empty cartridges and use those one on compatible cartridges. Otherwise you can try SSCService utiliy which offers many possibilities to reset, restore or disable internal printer counters.
