 | HP Deskjet 1220c by Toni Christensen (6/1/03 7:51 AM) reply | + / - | I will like to know if anyone knows where I can find a HP DeskJet CD-ROM Service Manual for the HP Deskjet 1220c, or if anyone has any suggestions to solve the following?
My HP Deskjet 1220c will easily accept working when I feed it ordinary paper, but as soon as it is fed with -hp´s own Primium Glossy Photo Paper then it will take the paper in the first stage, after it starts slipping. Basically, it starts printing, but the paper just doesn´t move further. Any suggestions?

 | Re: HP Deskjet 1220c by LYDIA LEWIS (1/25/05 11:35 PM) reply | + / - | I've had similar problems however I've had to change to HP BROCHURE AND FLYER PAPER GLOSS. This paper comes in 8.5 x11 to 11 x 17. I've ordered this paper online from PAGE COMPUTERS for the cheapest prices that I've found yet. if you're looking for gloss finish. Truthfully, I've found that photo paper weighter than 9ml is difficult to use and causes the problem that you've stated. Also this paper should be feed manually for least wastage. Lastly STAPLES has a great brand of photo paper that works well too. Hope this is helpful.

 | Re: Re: HP Deskjet 1220c by Anonymous (5/31/08 1:36 AM) reply | + / - | My 1220c is printing 2 parallel lines about 1/4" apart and 1/2" long near the centre of the top of the page on the underside as it comes through the rollers (i.e. not on the printed side). Despite cleaning everything I can get to it does not remove the marks. I would like to take the machine to bits, can you email me the service manual please? Size of file does not matter.
Many thanks Ian

 | Re: HP Deskjet 1220c by Bert (12/16/08 9:14 PM) reply | + / - | Remove the rear clean-out door and clean the rubber drive rollers with water. After they dry completely apply a thin coat of the rubber rejuvenator available on this web site, and let dry. http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/specials/misc/all/S03
The clean-out door must be latched properly or the printer will not turn on.

 | Re: HP Deskjet 1220c by STEVIERENO (12/17/08 7:09 AM) reply | + / - | Thanks a lot Bert. The info was just what I needed. I'll go right to it. I'm really looking forward to communicating further about this machine. It really came as a blessing and I intend to use it to it's fullest capabilities. It may not function as well as it's expected, but surely we can take this fabulous machine and take advantage of what it's capable of doing to its fullest. I'm very happy and completely satisfied with my prize. Face it, I only paid $30.00 bucks for mine at a local discount computer store. I'm in the sign business, and the bucks I'm going to make from this machine, the $30.00 and the new color inkjet cartridge at $20.00 bucks, I see it as a great investment.
Thanks again you guys. I'll keep you updated on the progress and all of the wonderful successes. Keep up the encouragement and the positive input. We're all in this together.
Stevie

My printer is really mis-aligned and I took out the cartriges and noticed the encoder strip on my black cartidge is missing. Can I get an encoder strip do you know??? and replace it???
Also how can I get the "toolbox"??
lrodeck@ssgix.com.

 | Re: HP Deskjet 1220c by Bert (3/25/09 1:42 PM) reply | + / - | I'm not sure what the issue is with your black cartridge but the encoder strip passes through an optical sensor on the backside of the cartridge carriage. It is made of thin plastic approximately .250"(6.35 mm) wide and attaches to a stationary hook on far right end of the printer and a spring hook on the far left. The part number is C2693-67082 and it can be found by doing Google search.
The Toolbox is part of the printer driver. If you are using Windows XP you can download the driver from HP. If you are using Vista the driver comes with it but I don't believe the Toolbox is included. http://h20000.www2.hp.com
If there is some kind of damage to the black cartridge the only option is to replace it.

 | Re: Re: HP Deskjet 1220c by mac6500 (3/25/09 2:02 PM) reply | + / - | Well, I guess it wasn't the encoder strip after all. I got that term from another post that seemed similar. I am talking about a thin vertical piece, not on the ink cartridge itself but on the printer where the cartidge goes. There are prongs on either side and this vertical piece which appears to be metal. There is a spring behind it. It is there on the color side but on the black holder it is missing and there are just two holes. I think this is the reason my prints are all wacked and miss aligned.

 | Re: HP Deskjet 1220c by Bert (3/25/09 9:32 PM) reply | + / - | The part that is 'missing' is a ESD (electrostatic discharge) blade. People commonly notice that there is not one in each cartridge bay and ask about it. One missing is typical, and since they cannot fall out without disassembling the carriage, the part was never installed at the factory and I'm assuming on purpose. I suspect that HP discerned that two where not necessary and decided to save a speck of money.
If the misalignment that you refer to is between the black and color cartridges then the spot sensor may not be working. It emits blue light while the cartridge alignment page is being printed. It is on the right side of the carriage under the cover held in place by one T10 Torx head screw. Check the small interconnect cable under the cover for a solid connection on both ends. Also make sure the rectangular lens on the bottom edge of the spot sensor is present. It you need some photos email me by clicking on the crossed tools to the right of my name. Be specific about what you need.
If the misalignment only seems to involve the color cartridge I suspect a defective cartridge.

 | Re: Re: HP Deskjet 1220c by mac6500 (3/26/09 8:32 AM) reply | + / - | Ok, I have decided that it is not an ESD blade problem either. Only one of the 4 other printers I have checked have this piece on the black cartridge side. The misalignment has nothing to do with color either. The print starts out fine for several inches and then the whole image jumps up a fraction of an inch for an inch or less and then back down, then up, then down, getting progessivly worse as it goes. Thanks for all the info. I may get this resolved yet.

 | Re: HP Deskjet 1220c by bob2231 (5/24/09 7:05 AM) reply | + / - | I know this is a really late post for this thread, but I came across this link in another post. It's a download site for service manuals. Search for the 1220c and download the manual in a pdf. It claims to be 3 part, and there are 3 parts, 0 1 & 2. But after extracting part 1 I had the full manual. Good luck. http://www.eserviceinfo.com/
