Heavy blacks on any printer take a bit of time to dry. Just have some patience. The old deskjet 1200 and 1600 series actually had a heater lamp under the paper path to dry the ink faster.

Gina, Bob has a point. Also keep in mind that the 1200 was an inexpensive printer to begin with. HP sold most of these at 399.00 which was probably very close to cost so as to sell the consumable tone
